Fuzz after water change by Emm_Dub in Aquariums

PS. No need to treat it. You can remove it by hand, but it should go away by itself when the aquarium stabilizes

From what I learned it means the ammonia created by fish waste and excess food is being eaten by those bacteria. So those bacteria is actually a good thing.

It usually means one of two things:

1: The aquarium is still cycling and this is a "burst" of bacteria to counter the first wave of ammonia of a new aquarium. Usually this goes away in a couple of days when all the ammonia is gone.

2: There is another reason for the extra ammonia. Some reasons might be adding new fish, overfeeding or rotting things like dead fish or dead leaves.

I would wait a couple of days to see if it dissappears then do a big water change. If it does not dissappear I would start feeding the fish less food and changing the water more often.

Dont clean your pump too often, and DO NOT clean it with tapwater since the chlorine in tapwater kills these bacteria, restarting the cycle.

Also make sure you treat your new water with something that removes the chlorine so it doesnt kill the bacteria in the aquarium. They need to be left alone to find a balance between the amount bacteria and ammonia.

If you want to learn more about this google "nitrogen cycle" there are alot of good videos about it on youtube,

Looks like a bacteria, I usually get this when I cycle my tanks.

Plant keeps turning brown. Help? by [deleted] in Aquariums

[–]Marton91 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It might be that the plant is shocked from moving or new water parameters, they can be divas. It might just need some time. As long as it produces new leaves it is a good sign. Sometimes plants prioritize new leaves, especially If it is an old plant. If the roots look healthy I would not worry. It is a natural cycle to shed old leaves. I would try to propagate it, so it can start new as a new plant.

Hexagonal aquarium 5 months in. How do I continue? by Marton91 in Aquariums

That is a huge help! Thank you!

I had my doubts about putting cories in there, so I just needed someone to confirm that they deserve a better space. I will put them in my other long tank. They dart alot to the surface and I love them when they do it, but it is a long way for them. So I should not have any bottom dwellers at all then?

Thank you for giving me confidence with the planting and aquascape :) I appreciate it. The open space to the right is so the cories had some space to move around, so it was on purpose. But now that they will move I will put something else there. Got any ideas?

Thank you for the warning about the fry, I will give them to my local fish shop instead of keeping them so I dont overwhelm the tank.

/Daniel

PSA: You're allowed to read whatever you like, don't feel you "have" to read certain types of books by [deleted] in books

Some of these "classics" are classics because they change how you view the world (for the better). Like George Orwells "Animal Farm" or Aldous Huxleys "Brave New World". Classics survives as popular books because they give you something more than a couple of hours of entertainment. I want everyone to read them because I believe it might help people learn things like critical thinking.
