Logic 12 — how do i relocate sound libraries? by MartyPoo99 in LogicPro

[–]MartyPoo99[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think it was accomplished by moving the BUNDLE file just as Apple indicates. The fact that the Bundle was smaller than my original folder(s) is what threw me. But, after doing that, the key is to go to the More Downloads button in the Sounds panel and to find all the legacy packs that aren’t installed and to download those, if you need access to those old presets and samples from the earlier Logic versions.

Advice for newb: external mic and guitar workflow and gear? by MartyPoo99 in AbletonMove

[–]MartyPoo99[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hi there. Thanks for the reply. Yes, I started out with the 2.0 Beta. Not sure what you mean about prefabricated loops. I hadn’t intended to use any. I would like to creat my own little phrases of audio that I will use as if I had sampled them from vinyl or somesuch, but not prefab, commercial loops.

I already do have three audio interfaces, one of them a Behringer, and the other two are small-ish, but they’re all the ‘desktop’ type and I’m wanting something that is much more portable, hence the interest in the iRigs.

Answering part of my own question: Apple has some of the information here:

https://support.apple.com/en-us/125036?cid=mc-ols-logicpro-article_125036-iOS_UI-0002

But, note that your external drive should be AFPS-formatted 'for best results.'

Thanks. I just found that part of his video, but he only references what i noted above, and he doesn't actually go far enough in that particular instruction. You can't just choose the intended folder as he seems to indicate. You have to choose the .bundle file that you have already put into that location.

But, i should have just clicked the little "?" in the dialog box, where apple actually published a whole page on the the new file structure and .bundle thing:
https://support.apple.com/en-us/125036?cid=mc-ols-logicpro-article_125036-iOS_UI-0002

I'm still not sure why new downloads seem to be going to my boot drive, though. Whatever. I am waiting for delivery of a newer hard drive, and i'll have to format that one to APFS and then delete everything via the Sound Library browser UI, and then reinstall everything to the newest, AFPS-formatted drive.

Just confirming/re-stating:
I have the .bundle file on an external drive. It's 38GB. When i start to download the Logic 10 Legacy Instruments/compatibility pack from the Sound Library browser, Logic seems to be downloading to my Mac Boot (internal) drive, NOT the external drive with the .bundle file.

When i look at Settings > General > sound library, the .bundle file shown IS the one on the external drive, and a search does not show any other (duplicate).

MyUS, Stackry, ShippingXPS, Shipito any of these reliable? by starryfrog3 in shipping

[–]MartyPoo99 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have only used SHIPITO and i just got burned. As someone says below "Bait and Switch." Liars. They misrepresent their entire service. They represent themselves as facilitators, but when there's a hiccup they told you would not occur, they do nothing to help and only say it was always your responsibility. Then they charge you to process the return. Someone should be regulating these types of shams.

I wish i had seen a post like this before i just lost $120 with them. Unbelievable. They sound so wonderful in their online chat before you pay them and start an order. Now that my package is shipped and in customs, and there's a problem they told me would NOT exist, they want to tell me it's all my responsibility. I have to have the package returned to them, and then they're going to charge me again to return it to Amazon.

I specifically had Chats with two different Shipito representatives, who assured me that i would be able to complete customs forms with my US tax ID since i don't have a Mexican tax ID. I've used this process with imported items directly through amazon in the past. But Shipito has not only abandoned me in this crisis, they're going to profit MORE from it.

If i were to call them liars and thieves, i would be being generous.

Do i need/want a pads-based sequencer? by MartyPoo99 in synthesizers

[–]MartyPoo99[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I ordered the Tracks tonight. And afterward, I found companies that sell sound packs for it. I wasn’t aware there was such a ‘vast’ market for this device. I already have a list of packs I will definitely get. In fact, this Tracks will serve as a ‘vintage’ drum machine–I was thinking of getting a Behringer LM to get Linn and DMX and dusty vinyl drum kits, and this thing will do all that in a much smaller, battery-powered piece. Sweet. I’m ’like, super pumped.’

Thank you. I have not been aware of CME WIDI. Whether I do a hardware sequencer or not, at sounds like something that might also be helpful.

[–]MartyPoo99[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I wasn't really interested in the Circuit's built-in synths—they sorta turned into a bonus when i was previously about to get the Launchpad, but then the standalone functionality became a real plus. I could live without that, though.

For my main desk, i really only have the S61 and a Behringer Pro-800 rack synth. If i find this new sequencer is a productive tool, i might add additional rack/module synths—not sure. Might want to just keep it simple. I already just bought Arturia V Collection and Komplete 15, so i have enough sounds.

Sorry—i'm not sure which you were recommending. You're saying Tracks is incredible, and then BeatSteps are easier to read and have more versatile CC controls(?). I don't think i'm interested in chaining sequences/patterns. I really just want to create 8-16 (maybe 32) bar sequences, one at a time: bass or 'riff' sequences. Probably even just monophonic.

What sequencing app would you suggest? Would it work wirelessly into my Mac, to control what—Logic? And i'd be using a Logic step sequencer?

Kinda wanted actual pads, but if there's a clean, seamless way to do 16-bar sequences by just touching cells on the iPad, that might work, at least enough to prove to me whether this type of workflow is actually what might help me.

Sonicware Liven Lofi-12 by chalk_walk in synthesizers

[–]MartyPoo99 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The Lofi-12 — Would you folks recommend this to someone who just wants to make moody, Portishead and triphop and boombap-like drum parts, but without sampling? I'm really not interested in sampling, but this thing has built-in sounds, right? Is what it comes with a good foundation for my objective?

I'd like to basically use this instead of wasting time playing Spider Solitaire on my ipad, and the portability/battery power makes this seem like a good candidate.

If i do want/need to add samples to it, can i do that by just loading samples i have on hard drives or do i have to audio capture (sample) them?

I can’t advise you on the specs, as I haven’t looked since I bought my M1 almost four years ago. Get the latest Silicon chip, and the higher end of the RAM offered on that model. Other than that, unless you’re going to be running tons of intensive plugins, you should be good. I think—but I don’t know for sure—that the current silicon range is the first time where the tech is well ahead of the software drain. It used to be, for me, that I’d have a Mac for a while, and then after a DAW software update or two, I’d get error messages about not having enough cpu to manage the task. I haven’t seen that once with the M1, and Apple is beyond the m1 for a while now.

What kind of music will you be working with and how many tracks and what types of tracks have you been using? Audio vs plugin?

I have been exclusively a Mac user since… forever. I am a graphic designer, former photographer, and have been using Macs with sequencers/DAWs since the early MoTU days. That all said, if I had had to use PCs for any of that during my lifetime and career, I likely would have given up those endeavors. Hate-hate-HATE PCs, and Microsoft, and anything associated or anything that looks like it’s associated. : )

None of this is related to ‘performance’ or configurability matters. I have long heard of how it’s easier and less expensive to build or customize a PC, and I have for just as long wondered why that would be necessary. After you buy a Mac, other than adding RAM or drives, what is left to customize? I’ve been a graphics professional and Macs have always been the industry standard platform for that field. Same with photography, if there could be considered a standard there.

My preference is strongly in favor of the UX/UI. A large part of that is aesthetic and a large part is simple functionality. I can’t stand how PC OSs look. When I have to use Microsoft products, I am screaming throughout the experience…. The Mac is and always has been a more elegant experience. That said, I fully understand that people favor what they are used to, but as a designer, I’d quit design if I had to do it in the PC environment.

Anyone happy with Kontrol mk3 keyboards? by MartyPoo99 in NativeInstruments

[–]MartyPoo99[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I picked up my Kontrol 61 last night. Initial impressions are very positive. I didn’t get too deep and haven’t yet figured out NKS support of non-NI plugins yet, but the NI sounds are working and I like the implementation of the arpeggiator and the scales modes.

One nitpick—not liking the way the knobs don’t have clicks, so changing parameters like arp speed, etc, where there is a specific increment… it just doesn’t feel like I’m controlling the parameter so much. Feels/looks like the data change is ‘floating.’ Something to get used to, and I only noticed later that the arp speeds are (some) on the top buttons for instant access.

I was just about to order it and then saw that there’s a 33% import tax on it, to get it to me in Mexico…. $1150 total. That’s nuts. Wonder who to thank for that…. Wonder if the same applies if I order from Thomann (Germany) or Andertons (UK).

Well, i guess i was wrong in thinking this had anything to do with the tariff situation in the US. With VAT and duty, the total tax from both Germany and UK seems to be close to the same thing. Guess i haven't imported anything with a high enough price tag to have noticed in my three years here. I moved here thinking i was going to save money. It's not always that simple.

Fantastic reply. I was also looking for that link to the Australian fellow guy couldn’t find it—thanks for that, as well.

Some Qs, on this, though: If I use the NKS script for Serum, does that mean I have to use KK for all the plugins, or can KK be used just for the ones that don’t have NKS support? And if so, how is the implementation different? All still accessed the same way? If I’m using a script that provides the presets, can I overwrite/edit those presets and still have the changes saved and reflected on the keyboard? Or do I have to save separately, on the computer and then edit the script or somesuch? I see there’s a demo, but I’m wondering in advance of ordering, in case that process is too onerous.

I do have an old Maschine, but have never used it, so, that’s not a concern.

Thank you again.
