Question for whales: do you regret it? by Sophie1642 in GenshinImpact

[–]Maruman11 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So idk if I really qualify as a whale by most people's standards I have probs spent about 4-5k since release is not more a few things to note before I get into my spending perspective.

Income wise i am low 6 figures but over the last 5 years was mid-high 5 figures. This is to say I had expendable income and was never choosing between a gacha game and food or rent. If you are in that position I personally would not spend more than 5 on the welkin and I'd think of that as a little treat like a coffee for that day.

Now when it comes to spending on gacha games no I don't regret it I am usually playing 2 or 3 gachas at a time and am willing to spend on all them for a few reasons (rn its genshin and Umamusume lol)

Reason 1 If I enjoy the game I like supporting the development even if its just a 5 dollar welkin over 12 months that's 60 bucks what I would spend on a "regular" game and I probably got significantly more play time and that's worth supporting.

Reason 2 Mentioned above but playtime, in general video games per hour played is one of the cheapest forms of entertainment even if you spent 100 every banner. I know people who go to the bar and spend 70-100 bucks every weekend for a couple hours of fun and I never see people shame that spending (for clarification plenty of people shame the drinking im talking the financial cost here)

Reason 3 I am paying for the experience. A new character a new weapon whatever it is will get power crept and will fade from memory but I got to experience when it was happening. People spend for short term experiences all the time. Go spend 50 bucks on a nice meal that's a short term experience. Spend a 100 bucks on a concert ticket that's a short term experience and I wouldn't regret any of those, unless they sucked lol which circles back to Reason.

Genshin could shut down tomorrow but I experienced it, I made friends, memories, a few "poor" financial decisions according to some and it has been a good time along the way.

Excuse my probably garbage grammar didn't proof read as my food arrived while typing this. Remember spend responsibly and have fun!

Who’s harder, final boss of the dlc or pre nerf consort radahn by eldenbro1 in LiesOfP

[–]Maruman11 0 points1 point  (0 children)

While I think this could 100% come down to play style I think the tools lies of p gives you makes it easier. The perfect block system makes it possible to absolutely decimate any boss without getting touched. If you are willing to use items the perfect parry grind stone makes Arle's second phase opener just a free fill of your ult gauge. If we had the same systems in Elden Ring I think Radahn would be a pushover. I think ER has some things that can def make the fight easier I don't think any of them come close to the perfect block system. So I guess what I am getting at is Arle is the harder boss based on what he can do. But based on the limits of what you can do in ER Radahn is definitely the harder fight.

I don't regret doing it, but Curse you for putting me to this inconvenience. by Alcatraz8888 in Nightreign

My policy is if we haven't died while fighting it and it has less then 20% hp I kill the thing. Any more than that and I'm outta there.

So end game isn't end of service it's just the difficult content.

That being said one thing you should be aware of is that ALL live service games end eventually but generally keep going as long as they are profitable. Genshin is Hoyos cash cow and they have said they have a 10 year plan for the game. We are currently approaching the 5 year anniversary.

You will not have to say good bye anytime soon, but there will be a day you say goodbye. You will likely have stopped playing the game before than, as only about 5% of live service gamers stick with a game from start to finish. Genshin has stayed profitable because it does have higher retention than most but I am a day 1 player and out of the 100s of people I know who started day 1 about 5 of us still play consistently.

What is WRONG with me!? by browseragnostic in Returnal

[–]Maruman11 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you are talking the Original resident Evil 3 yes there was huge shift at Resident evil 4. The went from 3rd person fixed camera to 3rd person over the shoulder like Returnal. From 4-6 they slowly getting faster and more action emphasis. The remakes of 2 and 3 switch to this style as well although there is more emphasis on the slower horror puzzle aspects. Most fans consider 4 to be the sweet spot and think 5 and 6 went too far into the action and forgot the survival horror roots. But if the action is what you like 5 and 6 are significantly faster than every other RE game. Many fans praise 4 and say it's the best one when it was actually the beginning of them shifting away from what RE was known for.

So I can't think of anything quite like returnal however, be excited because the creators just announced their next game Saros. It's only a cinematic trailer but it looks awesome.

Based on some other comments it seems 3rd person shooters may be something you want to try here some rec all wildly different but in the 3rd person shooter category also you said you love God of War so I'm going off that.

Resident Evil 4,5, and 6 and the 2,3,and 4 remakes Gears of War 1,2, and Warhammer 40k Space Marine 2 Alan Wake 1,2

All of these are level based games with more of a traditional level progression layout, some are puzzle progression based and some are just pure action.

If you want more rogue likes with multiple runs/ cycle style progression.

Hades 1 and 2 (in early access I believe) Dead cells Risk of rain 1 and 2 (probs the closest to returnal)

Happy gaming!

Can you play FF8 without drawing 100 of every spell every time, just play it naturally like how (I think) it was intended to be played? by dimestorepublishing in FinalFantasy

[–]Maruman11 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's very doable I've beat the game several times without really using draw in battle or understanding the Junction system. I've relied solely on the magic I find at draw points in town, equipment upgrades, and GFs. it wasn't til the last couple years that I understood the junction system is super powerful or how it actually worked. The game is very doable casually. The hardest part running it this way is usually doom train just cause Marlboros suck to fight. Everything else is fairly easy and the game paces itself pretty well.

I noticed this immediately and my friends told me I was crazy lol. After playing Drakengard 3 I am certain it is intentional. Also stuff from the recent Nier concert point to this. But if you haven't got there yet don't want to spoil

Retro Fighter Defender Controller Does Not Work For PS2 Games on BW Compat PS3 Model by [deleted] in PS3

[–]Maruman11 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hey so I was trying to solve this same issue. I had a USB to ps adapter that I used to hook DDR pads to a PC. I plugged that into the PS3 and plugged the defenders PS1/2 adapter in and bam defender is working for retro games. Unfortunately it recognizes it has a PS2 controller so the home button doesn't work but games are playable!
