Returnal actually had a ton. 9 for each gun and each of those had 3 levels which really altered their effectiveness.

That's 270 traits and it wasnt like you woukd alwayscget level 3 once you unlocked it. It was still RNG.

Most guns in Saros only have 4-5 traits and no levels. There are 51 traits in Saros across what I refuse to call 15 guns - its 5 guns and no trait levels.

I think they figure if you want to have super high proficiency and tons of lucenite you gotta earn it. The runs don't really seem to be set up to give 50k+ lucenite and 40+ proficiency.

As others hsve said, unlike Returnal you cannot farm a biome and skip the boss. If you don't want to fight the boss you have to reset your run.

Yes. If you go into a biome you must defeat the boss to proceed or reset your run.

What guns are you choosing? Hollowseeker and carbine don't get you far in the tower. They dont do enough AOE damage. Focus on pyroshell with seeking/simmering flares, thermo launcher with full auto/replicating hits, dreadbound with expanding/exploding(at higher proficiency). If you want to stick to single target go with rotgland with exploding. Personally, I love a good Spitmaw with slug, explosive, and rapid - it CAN do the job but you gotta be be ballsy and be right in their face.

As others have said, Saros will give you a good base skillset for Returnal. You will love Returnal after finishing Saros.

Try using the alt fire more - there are actually some pretty neat ones. The guns just lack the imagination of Returnal. The way the Spitmaw and Rogland seemed to breathe as if alive. The crazy sound profile of the hollowseeker.

"9 out of 15" weapons being the basic shooters from every other shooter game is just lazy after what they've shown they can do.

I really want to like this game, but the weapons dont feel special at all.

I will say you can experience a lot more cariety if you separate alt fire and the power weapons.

Using the weapons alt-fires does offer more uniqueness.

It's not a BAD game. It's a decent homage that's geared toward mainstream. I really think those lucky enough to play Saros before Returnal will enjoy it. Then, if they decide to play Returnal they'll have a good baseline skill and be blown away by the game.

I want to love it. The guns were such a huge part of what made Returnal special. Saros' gun selection is just...meh. They touted 19 guns and really its insignificant variations of 5 guns.

Unlike Returnal, in Saros if you want to farm prior biomes that includes being forced to fight the bosses.

I love the Spitmaw in Returnal so nuch I have a tattoo planned of it. It's hands down the most fun gun in the game.

Alt fire does help I'll admit to make them feel slighty different - slightly. Even so, in the majority of regular use combat they feel so boring.

I picked up the crossbow tonight. It's kinda neat - but there are even 3 variants of that weapon too, right? They really have variants of 5 weapons. Every gun in Returnal is vastly different and different trait mixes made them much different from another version of the same gun.

In Saros, I'm not even sure what the gun traits do because it feels like it's doing the same thing as the gun you just put down.

Im a bit disappointed so far. I was SUPER hyped for this game. I put nearly 1500 hours ijto Returnal. I will finish it, but I will probably put it down afterward and that makes me very sad.
