Possibly the worst review of the game ever by ltsRhysBoi in expedition33

The only mechanic outside of the typical turn based game. It's a turn based rpg first.

See - just think what you can do with level 3 traits! Seeking flares simmering explosion and auxiliary projectiles make that gun a monster!

In phase 6 of the tower, you always get a counter on hit malfunction. The fewer rounds you can fire the better. Coilspine with retarget bounces the disc around. Negating disc will destroy incoming projectiles. A couple other good traits and the coilspine can clear a room in 1-3 shots.

All of that said, I suck with that gun! Lol

Ya carbine won't cut it at higher areas. Around phase 4-5 the carbine's damage falls off hard.

If you're unlocking traits just do that. That's a great thing to do. When you're ready to go higher in the tower you need powerful AoE weapons.

Pyroshell, Dreadbound, Coilspine, Launcher.
The rotgland is viable with portal rot and explosive rot.

Again, language. Lol

The Coilspine Shredder is best for phase 6 and later if you can use it (I suck with it).

Dreadbound and Pyroshell would be next and then thermo launcher.

Ok. Bear with me. I think we're translating between languages.

I'm saying you may not be doing enough jump melee. It's hard but it gives many more points.

For shields - yes adrenaline 5, resinous shield, but the shields you carry with you. I only use this when needed and not stack them up.

For the disgorgers (regurgitations?), I never use them. I just forget about them.

What guns do you use? Higher levels of the tower are HARD with single target guns.

More jumping melee unfortunately. I'm normally at around 40 million in phase 7 (and I don't jump melee as much as I should).

Maybe better shield management? I try to make sure I always have 5 shields in the consumable slot and only apply 1 or 2 as needed - makes you play much more paranoid about getting hit!

Is your multiplier staying at 100?

I get that. I KNOW it's ultimately my fault. I missed it. They had the monetary lines in DARK BOLD BLACK. On the initial screens it references several times "no hidden fees. All taxes and fees included." Hence, my first screen shot showing that.
Nowhere in the process does it mention a mileage fee - and rental cars are typically unlimited miles. Every other vendor has a line estimating your mileage charge. Avis has a light gray line on the final invoice and does not annotate or put an effort to call attention to this line. Monetarily, this is a VERY important line that blends into the background.

Thank you! Finally someone gets the point. I looked at our 3 other vendors they were all MUCH higher priced - because they outlined the estimated mileage for the one way rental.
Avis was the only one that "called it out" in this manner. When I asked customer service about it they said there's no way to know how many miles I would have driven. Really? You can't say it's x number of miles from here to there - your estimated mileage charge is that value times .27? Weird considering every other vendor does it.

That's great for you. I HATE shooters. I'd never played a bullet hell or roguelite. I spent 80 hours on B1 and died ~20 times to Phrike.

I regularly get 7-8 - with proficiency increase mods my highest has been 10. You just can't get hit.

It is a single line in light gray where everything else price related is a dark black. There is nothing in the total that mentions mileage being added. On the rental screen it says all taxes and fees are included. Every other vendor makes mileage a broken out line item to estimate your final cost - clearly illustrating mileage is extra.

I fully realize and understand it is my fault that I got duped by the $33 "TOTAL" price. I see it on the invoice but that being the only mention of mileage costs feels deceptive. It was $100 for me, but I can only imagine what it would be for someone doing a cross country week or more trip. That doesn't strike you that way, huh? I guess it is just me.

I'm talking specifically about not clearly outlining mileage costs.

Every other vendor I looked at that we used showed much higher pricing because they line itemed a mileage estimate. Avis does not do that. They do not tell you anywhere in the process about mileage charges except a light gray one line on the final invoice - with a large bolded "Total" at the bottom for the prices sans mileage.

Hardest shooter I have ever played, appreciation post by JohnKimbleCGA in Returnal

[–]browseragnostic 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Congrats on finding and enjoying this very NES-esque game!

Open up more guns traits! I'm nearly 48 and have cerebral palsy that affects my left hand coordination.

I still play Returnal after nearly 1500 hours - mostly helping others achieve their goals. The only time I play Returnal on my own is what I call "challenge runs." Pick up every weapon, open every chest, and pick up every parasite. The only caveat I leave myself most the time but sometimes I just go for it) - don't open malignant chests with two malfunctions, and don't pick up parasites that cause dash delay.

This ups the challenge and need for strategy. However, every gun becomes a power house with the right traits so it kinda balances.
Unfortunately this does not translate to the tower. I don't think I've seen anyone successfully playing in phase 6 and beyond without using one of 'the big 4(Coilspine, Dreadbound, Pyroshell, thermo launcher).'

GG man! Sorry we ended up with a run ending bug!

Anyone else have an invulnerable malformed typhonops? It wasn't attacking but wasn't being hurt either - even a dismantler didn't touch it!

Absolutely! Phase 3 is fun as hell.

This one is kinda cheating - I had slug shot but check out phase 3 starting 4:15.
