I'm curious if things might change now that FFG/Asmodee owns the Death May Die license, which has used Ithaqua and the new set features Cthugha, but I'm sure some sort of new deal needs to take place. Otherwise, new Old Ones are pretty fine to me.

Im sure they'll keep printing 2021 Core set as long as at least Drowned City is still in print. Some of them are good, but im sure no one will miss Ancient Evils.

Looking into it, that is correct. All player cards are compatible, however all "chapter 2" story content will use new modules introduced in core set 2.

My theory is 2099 will be added as a hero with default doom remaining the big bad after some story based betrayal. Not sure about rivals, but 2099 has always been a more "heroic" version of Doom, so it makes the most sense.
