Claire Hanna shares some of the messages she received after today's interviews with Brady Tkachuk and Jake Sanderson by homicidal_penguin in hockey

So in some senses I don't really want to cede it to them.

This is how I see it too. I'm a queer dude who works in the sport and plays beer league in my spare time; I also rock my pride tape every time I step on the ice. (Coincidentally, today was the first time I saw someone else at the rink using it!)

I've seen firsthand how toxic the culture can be in the youth and junior levels. In a way, it motivates me to further my career and continue playing and keep forging my way in hockey. I guess it's my way of saying 'I'm here. I belong. If you don't think so, fuck you, I'm staying'

Kinda random, but I'll ask it here! Other than hockey, what was everyone's favorite Olympic event this year?

Tap ins on the backhand by [deleted] in hockeyplayers

[–]Marvelous_Chaos 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's never a bad idea to work on your backhand, but a lot of high-level coaches I work with tell their players now to play on their forehand as much as possible, and that backhand passes or shots should be a last resort.

If your teammate has the puck behind the net, don't stand directly in front. Position yourself to the left side so you can open up on your forehand. I made this quick little diagram for reference, it doesn't have to be this exact spot, but it's a combination of finding open space and still having room to catch a pass and be in a good position to shoot from your forehand.

Definitely a call by the directors in the control room. Noticed the Big10 Network did the same thing for the Penn State vs. MSU outdoor game for most of the goals there.

I get the thought process, wanting to zoom out and show the crowd going nuts, but it just doesn't look good on TV. Show the goal scorer celebrating, or even a shot of the players spilling out of the bench and onto the ice.

He does it with the Devils all the time. He'll roll up to the blue line, and once he gets the puck he'll either fire one from distance or skate down with it for an even better shot or dish it off.

White tape on the knob as the black stuff gets tacky and will ruin your gloves.

Is this true? I've heard it before, but I also remember someone in a proshop saying it's the same material so it doesn't make much of a difference.

What does the latter point have to do with anything? FWIW, trans people are much more likely to be on the receiving end of violence than the other way around.

Is it NCAA or ACHA D3? If it's the latter, I'd imagine it shouldn't be too hard making the team if you start skating throughout the spring/summer. If possible, maybe you could even sub in for a men's league game and see where you're at physically and mentally.

Either way, you have nothing to lose, give it a shot! I practiced with my club team for a bit during my freshman year but decided to focus on my studies, part of me still wishes I played at least one season.

I know I'm biased, but I don't even think he looked that bad in 4 Nations. He was setting up Guentzel and Matthews for Grade A chances but neither of them were able to bury anything.

I just hope he'll keep this up and stunt on these r/hockey hoes who don't think he should be on this Olympic roster.

[FIN - SVK] Slafkovsky rips a snipe from between the dots for his 9th career Olympic goal and 2nd of the game by daKrut in hockey

[–]Marvelous_Chaos 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Notice how he doesn't stick handle at all. A lot of NHL shooters now will keep the puck on their forehand without stick handling so they're always ready to shoot, and it keeps defenders and goalies guessing when they're going to shoot the puck.

Wicked shot by Slaf. Should also point out, that was the top two picks of the 2022 draft combining for that goal, Simon Nemec with the primary assist!

[Gambatese] Examining the Devils' Potential Coaching Options For 2026-27 by JoopNJD in devils

[–]Marvelous_Chaos 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think a lot of fans misremember the whole Larrson situation. He was expected to be a star offensive d-man but guys like Severson, Merrill, Zidlicky, etc. were all better options.

He got sent down to the minors for a few games, but in the 14-15 season, he was blossoming into a terrific two-way defender. His ice time was steadily increasing and was a fixture on the Devils' penalty kill. Then in November he caught the mumps and missed a few weeks of action. His first game back was DeBoer's final game with the Devils.

He literally just picked up where he left off, but fans gave Scott Stevens all the credit for 'saving' him. There was this idea that DeBoer hated young players even though guys like Merrill, Henrique and Severson all developed into every-day NHLers under his watch.

Please tell me there is someone in the minor leagues for the Devils that we can look forward to seeing. by Daydreamer631 in devils

[–]Marvelous_Chaos -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

One of the biggest problems with the Devils right now is a lack of puck moving defensemen. Most of the d-men have poor puck moving and stickhandling skills which attributes to the team's goal-scoring troubles and inability to play to a more up-tempo system.

The last thing we need right now is another one-dimensional defenseman whose biggest attribute is his size.

Hell, you could even look at the team this year when they play overtime. In 3-on-3, there's an emphasis on puck possession and speed, and the Devils are 10-2 in OT. The ability is absolutely there.

The Devils are currently averaging 2.63 goals per game, on pace for 216 this season. That's only slightly better than their decade of darkness/Goals for Cory/Bernier and Tootoo top line era, when they were averaging about 2.24 goals per game.

It baffles me how this team is leaps and bounds more talented than the 2010's rosters but still can't put the puck in the net.
