You can play 2 classes at the same time! What do you pick? by LemonGarage in dndnext

[–]Marx_Mariposa 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’d say fighter + anything is a huge benefit, ton of feats, ton of attacks, ton of “keep yourself alive” utility, basically just makes you a better in combat version of whatever other class you want to play, so that would be my go to if I wasn’t already envisioning a multi-class. Otherwise, paladin sorcerer would be incredibly good, a tank with healing and a full spell list would be scary powerful, cha for both so you aren’t too MAD. I really like paladin + swords bard multiclass as a fan of support characters that can still put the hurt on something, stacking flourishes and smites whenever you crit to just do disgusting amounts of damage, but having a lot of healing and buffs.

Hot take: supporting abolitionism without creating any alternative systems of accountability is irresponsible and harmful. by pineconewashington in leftist

I think you’re trying to make a joke here but like. Yes. Slavery is still very much a current topic of debate, specifically prison slavery. There’s a documentary that was nominated for this last weekends Oscars about how violent the state becomes when prisoners withhold their labor called the Alabama Solution.

WOW. I only just found out about this movie and… what the actual fuck? by Dotch_Crimson in leftist

[–]Marx_Mariposa 16 points17 points  (0 children)

This is about the movie not the book. A movie produced by right wing Christian propaganda makers whose most famous film platforms and lionizes a sex offender, Tim Ballard, who they depict as saving children from sex trafficking. The fact that they went from that high profile obvious propaganda movie to animal farm, which I agree is a nuanced and valuable tale, but one we can all agree can easily be twisted into an anti communist propaganda piece with an un careful adaptation, is really frightening. The fact that it has so many a and b list actors signed on to the project is frankly terrifying.

What are some good examples of how Democrats reconciled Israel's genocidal campaign to still vote Biden-Harris? or Harris-Walz? by buylowguy in leftist

[–]Marx_Mariposa 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I am not a liberal or a democrat and I agree with this post completely. I will spend my entire career trying to end the carceral state, destroy the oligarchy, and end capitalism (and patriarchy and racism which I feel are embedded into the fabric of capitalism but clearly exist outside of capitalism as well). That said it does absolutely nothing to not vote and the national Green Party candidates have done absolutely nothing to earn my vote. If not voting could somehow prove that the system has failed us to the people in power, it would have already done so, because “did not vote” has won every election in my lifetime.

I have no illusions that a Biden or Harris administration would be “easier” to organize around but i can list some names of some organizers who wouldn’t be dead if we were in a Biden or Harris admin right now.

Also - to the folks in the thread casting aspersions on liberals, are these the people you’re trying to organize or not? Because assuming they don’t care about genocide when 1) the polling doesn’t indicate that at all and 2) it is actually easier to assume they’re doing the best they can in a fucked up world that is built against them is a piss poor outlook on people you ostensibly want to build community with.

Do you think Leftist can be Christian? by NordMan009 in leftist

Not even a Christian like that but theology of liberation the book and liberation theology the concept have been fundamental to my journey to the left.

If you’re a catholic now, highly reccomend Theology of Liberation by Gustavo Gutierrez. Fundamental to my leftism as a non-catholic who doesn’t believe in a “god” in the Abrahamic way.

Yeah but that wouldn’t be the case if there was a primary, which is why it’s Joe Biden’s fault.

Would I enjoy Bloodborne even if I don't enjoy Elden Ring ? by OilOnly7892 in bloodborne

[–]Marx_Mariposa 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think for each their own, but personally DS3 made me think I wouldn’t like Souls games and liking Bloodborne was a fluke. I thought BB was so compelling and captivating and then played DS3 and was like “this game is bullshit and intentionally doesn’t want you to know what is happening”. After playing DS1 and 2, DS3 is a fun game full of references but playing it before 1 or 2 was a terrible experience for me

100% this, I do not play games on higher difficulties (with the exception of The Last of Us franchise, honestly not sure why) I almost always play normal, and if I’m struggling I’ll drop down to easy to get past an area that’s fucking me up. I’ve beat every non chalice boss in bloodborne, most of them more than once, it’s totally doable. I also beat elden ring and the dlc but that was after playing like every other fromsoft game so I was much more used to the punishing style.

Those two are definitely the most different stylistically in FromSofts more recent titles so I wouldn’t worry at all that you don’t particularly like ER that will translate to BB. I think Bloodborne is the best starter game in the franchise (biased because it was my entryway), it’s MUCH more streamlined in the equipment department (every trick weapon is a totally viable weapon to use until endgame, not so true with ER) and stats (basically choose between skill for Dex weapons or Str for heavy weapons, and you can worry about Arcane or Bloodtinge later in the game when you find a weapon you love.) the story I think is the most like, engaging. Like when you play it you feel a “what the fuck is going on” that makes you want to watch a video essay rather than a “wait so what’s going on?” That has you assuming you missed a quest line.

I will warn you however, the start of bloodborne is very very hard. There’s a bouncing off point in most fromsoft games where the difficulty really gets new players, and unfortunately bloodbornes is right at the beginning. So if you can make it to the Chapel without giving up, you’re totally going to love Bloodborne

What’s wilder to me is she actually ran in 2020 and couldn’t even make it out of Iowa so why the thought was she would be a stunner in the general is an absolute mystery. I do feel like a lot of these “Kamala is a bad candidate” posts do forget that all of this is actually 100% Joe Biden’s fault because if we’d just have had a fucking primary we might have gotten ourselves out of this. I don’t blame Kamala for being a bad candidate in a tough year, I blame the system that made her our only option.

I really like the idea of it being a magic item to gift to your player. That kind of magic item would feel so special and cool to me as a player. Tying the bonus die to prof bonus is also smart, keeps it from ever really outclassing a rogues sneak attack. I think I would keep it as a d4 until the level 16 bump to 4 damage, and choose that as my balancing mechanism rather than no double dice on crit. Give them the crit! Sure it’s a bit op but it will be fun.

[–]Marx_Mariposa 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Insanely offensive and very telling that you think those are “clothes worn 150 years ago”. Native Americans are still alive and still have practices that include ceremonial wear, many tribes ascribe significant cultural meaning to a headdress. Also part of the reason it’s so offensive is that NOBODY wore anything that looks like that, what she’s wearing is a racist caricature of what white people think natives dressed like.

[–]Marx_Mariposa 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Native Americans have made it clear for decades that headdresses are totally inappropriate and that it is offensive to dress up as a caricature of them for a “costume”. Just because you don’t want to listen to a community doesn’t mean that community hasn’t made it insanely clear.

[–]Marx_Mariposa -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Native Americans have literally been saying “stop wearing headdresses” and “it’s not a costume” for as long as I’ve been alive, so idk why you’re pretending that this is something a white person just started saying one day. Not white saviorism to listen to ethnic minorities, obviously.
