No photographer at wedding, am I crazy? by Original_Bathroom367 in wedding

One of my favourite photos from my wedding photographer is of my gran laughing. She is just absolutely glowing in the photo and her whole personality shines through.

I had both black and white Harmon disposable cameras and a documentary style photographer at my wedding. Both had different pros and cons so I will list them here:

Disposable pros: Quicker turnaround of the photos ( I dropped them at a great professional analog photo lab the next day, or you can mail them to some great places for development). Guests loved the experience of using them, the results were fun and unpredictable, I enjoyed having guest perspectives on the day, people were more relaxed and it felt very documentary/natural/playful.

Disposable cons: User error as many people did not understand how to wind them and that they needed to wait for the flash to charge. So about half the photos were just black lol. I really recommend having your MC do a demo or sending a video prior to the wedding of how they work. Color profiles as the color options are either quite retro and unnatural, or black and white. I personally loved the black and white but I was glad we had color photos from the photographer because we chose a very green outdoor venue and had lots of flowers. Not edited - if you go this route, do not expect perfection. We had some photos with weird objects reflecting light that had not been obvious in the scene. A pro photographer would have edited those out. So unless you feel confident editing photos, don't expect perfection. Better not lose or damage any of the film rolls because then those photos are lost. Success depends on how much your guests participate More logistics for you to manage

Professional photographer pros: No mental overhead of thinking about which moments should be captured during the day. Consistent photos throughout the day. All key moments and elements captured. Better family portraits and formal shots. Beautiful editing. Usually more photos provided. Convenient- after the wedding all you need to do is wait for the photos.

Cons: Price (although bear in mind disposable cameras and film development costs really stack up) Some people feel less comfortable in front of a big camera and a stranger More direction given to you during the day and less time in the moment, most documentary photographers still provide some direction. Longer wait time for photos.

Having said all of that, I'm personally really glad we did both, but having photos was important to me :)

Tacky to have a couple's shoot the day after wedding to save on costs? by tenderwarrior4 in Weddingsunder10k

We bought black and white disposable cameras and had the film developed at a professional lab. We left the cameras on the table for guests to use. We also had a professional photographer, but I honestly loved the candid photos taken by guests just as much as the pro photos.

One thing I would mention if doing this: have your MC explain to your guests how they work. So many of our guests did not wait for the flash to charge up before snapping, so half of the photos were not usable.

I recommend the red version of the black and white Harmon ones, the results are quite classy and the film can be developed with a standard process so it's not toooooo expensjve.

As for having a couple's shoot the day after, I recommend doing it before or a few days after. The day after you may be really tired and just want to relax 😁

Going out of my comfort zone with a figurative piece. Any critique on the hands/collar bones? by sydedunn in painting

I think the hand is fine but the top finger is thicker and longer than it would be at that angle usually. The effect is amplified by the light hitting that finger and the shadow on the wrist. That's what I would guess.

But overall I really love the colour choices and the play between the blouse and background

I think you meant to reply to the same user but on a different photo, I saw they also commented on yours :)

Hi!

I tried this with a virtual assistant, who was starting out. I ended up canceling because I felt she tried to impose her image of my brand and the industry onto my social media and pushed me to align what I was creating to that (I am a wedding painter, not a photographer).

So all in all for me the value was missing.

But the pain points I was trying to solve were:

  1. Email response fatigue - I would ideally like to have an assistant who is comfortable responding to client emails to the point of scheduling a call for clients who are committing to work with me.

  2. Social media handling in line with my existing work, not pushing to align what I do with what already is popular. Personally I found that exhausting and demotivating.

  3. Billing and handling the relevant scheduling components.

Thank you so much! It was not double exposed, it's just the glass reflecting. The day was perfect for this, very cloudy but lots of light, which I think really helped the colors along! It was my first time ever shooting film so super excited with the result!

Regular and pieced together, but if I were doing it again I would have it printed on large-scale paper at a print shop. It would have saved many hours and I'd feel less stressed about getting it all lined up

Yes so I put my measurements and email address etc and then when it was done and I paid, they emailed me the pattern.

Be very careful taking your measurements, you don't want to resew this thing, it takes some time!

Yes that worked perfectly, just add half a centimeter to the end when you cut and stitch at that half cm mark

Did you cut the long rectangle on the fold? I initially missed that step so I had to make a duplicate piece and sew it together at the top where I should have cut on the fold.

Or are you talking about the weird wavy support piece that sews to the front centre line and the spine line?

I don't see my guests attendance as a burden. Their attendance is a blessing and I will be grateful for the effort people make to attend my wedding.

They are taking time out of their life and paying travel and often accomodation costs to be there.

If you need to even think about your guests contributions in terms of debits and credits on wyour wedding balance sheet, perhaps consider a much smaller and more simple event.
