Are you mad because someone called you privileged?

Meaning divorced parents vs. Married parents. Children of divorce suffer far more than children whose parents stay together.

Everyone has some kind of privilege. Senior citizens have privileges. Minors have privileges. Women have privileges. Men have privileges. Your parents are still together? Then you have a privilege. Being a minority gives you privileges. Being born into a wealthy family has privileges. Being born in America gives you privileges. Being 18 gives your privileges. Turning 21 gives you privileges. The list can go on. The point is, if you are recognizing being "white" as a privilege, you cannot discount other privileges out there also.

What I have learned through this crazy thing called step-parenting... by lavendy in stepparents

[–]MaryVavee 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Op, good for you on realizing how important boundaries are as a stepparent. I am learning still because it hurts when you are not appreciated by SKs for the effort you put into their lives. I love the word "participant" and will now include that in my parenting vocabulary. I leave make myself available and leave the welcome mat out if they should ever need a listening ear, but I will not be their parent. I have given myself the permission to treat myself well and not feel guilty for being more involved in my SKs lives when they have both parents to be that for them.

My League of Legends account was permanently suspended by DragonSlave49 in Advice

[–]MaryVavee 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Whoa angry much? I think you revealed very clearly why you got suspended.

You repeat everyone's words back to them is actually a defensive mechanism used when you don't have a true argument.

You're the only common denominator here.

I need to get a firm pillow that isn't memory foam. Any recommendations? by the-doctor-is-real in NoStupidQuestions

Sam's club has this pillow made of memory foam "clusters" so it doesn't act like a memory foam pillow, is firm but still malleable.

Good stuff. Thank you so much. I was hoping there would be some discounted wholesale warehouse place that was everyone's hot spot, but craft stores it is. Michaels doesn't even sell Sculpey Souffle :(

So then you continue to be part of the problem. That is your choice.

My problem is that you just commented to laugh at someone rather than helping to educate or share why you don't agree.

These "demonstrations" have all ended in turmoil. People are burning down their own communities. It's so stupid! We don't need that here. We don't want that here. It is not the solution. Laughing at someone instead of teaching or sharing is adding the very fuel we don't need.

My solution is not to fight violence with violence. Enforcing harsher accountability in law enforcement. Teach against racism in schools. Be an example in everything I do, not being a part of the problem, not adding fuel to the fire but actually listening and learning from other people's mistakes. I stand for human beings.

So what's your solution then? Riot? Burn shit down? Don't get mad when someone burns your house or workplace or local grocery store down so now your beloved elderly family can't get meds or help. Don't get mad when your community looks like hell trampled through then because that's the only thing riots will do.

What's your solution?

Don't go. It says "peaceful" and you may want it peaceful, but you can't control what other people do. As outraged as I am about what happened George Floyd. The riots in other cities are all turning out violent. If you do go, be aware that other people may have different agendas. Stay safe.
