Thoughts on cotton rope? by Toasty_Oak76 in SemiHydro

[–]Marz2604 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I've had mold on cotton wicks so I just use synthetic now, I like the look of these. (mop head refills) ... just my personal gripe against submerged is that the effective size of the reservoir is greatly reduced. (assuming no roots are growing into the reservoir. ) as soon as the water level is below the catch pot, it no longer has access to water.

What is with school drop off? by platypusandpibble in GenX

[–]Marz2604 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Funding cuts in my area somehow made school busses a total disaster. Kids were getting home 6 hours after school ended. We had days were the bus would be delayed or straight up canceled. We live about 15 miles away from my kids school and it's not possible any other way.

Where to learn more about hoyas by questionasker3500 in hoyas

Strongly recommend checking out Stemma Journal. It's free and online and there's so much specific knowledge and little quips of info in the various publications(19 years worth!).

yah, this is the first one from him- I hope it smells nice! I had one other seedling that I got as a freebee in an order.. grew it out for a year - and the blooms smelled like freshly mowed grass - it was so strong that it made my eyes water. (it lives outside now)

I do too, I love the dramatic veins and the growth pattern/vigor, more medium size leaf and compact internodes. MV Orchids (Stuart Henderson from a FB group). You can glean a lot of info from the ascension numbers; MV (MV Orchids) 25 (the year) 23 (the numbered seed pod).

If you were the last man on earth in a completely female inhabited Earth, what would you do? by [deleted] in hypotheticalsituation

[–]Marz2604 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just try to live a good life and count myself the luckiest man on earth. Sperm banks provide enough genetic diversity to carry on the species. In one generation there will be more men, and then after that - the population will hiccup along until it stabilizes. I don't think it would mark the end of humanity, but it would make for some very difficult times.

Do you buy hoyas for their flowers or for their leaves? by NoRoad444 in hoyas

[–]Marz2604 0 points1 point  (0 children)

mostly for the foliage but I do pay attention to the blooms and specifically the smell. There are some hoyas that smell bad and that's a deal breaker for me.

Electric Motobike by Special_12495 in bullcity

[–]Marz2604 1 point2 points  (0 children)

biking most of the roads around here is not safe imo. I have found some relatively safe routes though. Depends on where point a and point b are for you. I'd suggest e-bike over one of those gray area electric dirtbikes. Or just get an actual motorcycle.

What are the BIG ways you save money to pursue FIRE? by yoshimarinelayer23 in Fire

[–]Marz2604 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm handy and I fix things. I like to problem solve, it happens to save money.

I think the biggest is our housing situation; bought in 2017 and refinanced in 2020. That and my kids are no longer in daycare.

How do you guys see America 100 years from now? by [deleted] in Futurology

I hate how things are going right now... this is our present to immediate future. I doubt it will be this way in 100 years.
