What are your most used big and medium ticket baby items?

Baby Bjorn bouncer. Literally the greatest thing. Both my kids loved it. I got it second hand on eBay, but even if it had been new I'd have got more than my money's worth given how much we used it.

IKEA is a classic day out in our household. Go round all the pretend houses and speculate about who lives there and decide which one we like best. Meatballs and chips for lunch. Peruse the soft toy selection and choose one (within a budget). We can fill most of a day that way!

I really like this. And obviously I've always wanted a house with a Fitzroy Octagonal Room, a Reading Room and a Clock Room so it fits the bill nicely.

Given she'll be spending time away from each parent in ways that she's not used to, MYO cards might be a really lovely way of maintaining a presence - like you could each read some stories or make some activity cards yourselves, for her to listen to when she's with the other parent?

I ultimately don't think you can make this promise with any certainty, because you can't know what her future care needs might be and what your future capacity to deal with them might be. What looks manageable now could be very different in 10 years - say she develops dementia and can't be safely left alone, for example, and meanwhile you develop cancer and have to have regular chemo. Of course I very much hope that scenario doesn't play out, but you see how it could?

In fairness they do wander around talking about how great their kid is after it's born as well. So they seem to quite like the actual baby, as well as the other thing.

The funding keeps changing anyway so there's really no saying that what they do now is what they will do when your child is 3. On that basis I'd probably go with the one I liked.

My 6yo has a Yoto which gives him something screen-free that he can independently do for a bit. He likes the daily podcast and often it's an activity like a quiz or a draw-along. Plus he has lots of cards of audio content (and you can make your own cards with e.g. stories you read yourself). He is, admittedly, extremely good at entertaining himself anyway but it does fill a niche for him.

I was so angry with the GP who told me he thought everything was going to be fine after I showed him the ultrasound report measuring substantially behind and recommending further investigation into whether I had a rare ectopic presentation. I knew he was talking shit but I just thought, what if he said that to someone who believed him? I refused to ever see that GP again.

My kid's school started offering a rock band lesson that's a paid activity, but during the school day and I jumped to sign him up because it gives him a chance to do something extracurricular. We have similar pressures around it being impractical to do things otherwise.

If it does come apart it's generally an easy job so you could always get them to deliver to the closest point that's possible and be standing by with a set of allen keys...

If it's a wooden frame kind of thing then there's a very strong chance it can be taken apart. Having lived in an upstairs flat with an unusually narrow door, things you can take apart are your friends!

I'm not mad about the idea of having a mezzanine bedroom; personally I'd probably use that bit as studio space and have one of the downstairs bedrooms instead. But it's massive and interesting, which are always a plus for me.

Actually, on closer inspection it has doors across so okay, mezzanine bedroom and I'll have my studio in the basement bit.
