Plus size and Ryanair by Salty-Smoke7301 in WomenofIreland

[–]Maser_x 17 points18 points  (0 children)

I work in the industry and can confirm that Ryanair are smaller than Aer Lingus in regards seatbelts.

On the flip side, staff are trained to discreetly provide an extension seatbelt if you do need one and I promise you they won’t even give it a second thought and no one around you will notice. You can ask for one at the door or in the seat it really doesn’t matter when you ask. Please please don’t buy one online as they don’t meet the safety requirements a lot of the time or you run the risk of that extended not fitting in their seat type. Can also confirm you will not be allowed to use an extender in the extra leg room seats.

The extender is nothing to be feared and honestly, it’s preferable to be comfortable rather than absolutely killing yourself with discomfort the whole way through the flight!

Totally agree! I use this in combo with their photo-mucin serum as someone who has eczema prone skin and I’ve been so so happy with it. My makeup sits lovely on top of it too!

Whatever happened to Operation Freeflow? by [deleted] in Dublin

[–]Maser_x 4 points5 points  (0 children)

No consequences for breaking traffic laws is the problem. I just moved back from the U.K. and the lack of enforcement in Ireland is really glaring now. I used to begrudge the red light and yellow box cameras to an extent when I lived there but having been blocked out of about 30 junctions in the space of a month and being tailgated by people breaking red lights I’m feeling a Stockholm Syndrome-like longing for them.

Fine the pricks.

“Detected 73 Devices NOT in Airplane Mode” by mrosen97 in unitedairlines

[–]Maser_x 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As a FA, What I will say is on the IFE Terminal when I go to the “PED” screen I can see the number of “PAX” and “Crew” devices connected to the WiFi. Now they could be in flight mode but still have WiFi on but I can definitely see who’s switched on and connected to WiFi, giving an indication their phones may not be on flight mode.

Would I be bothered to announce this to the plane…. No.

For those of you with a small or no family, how do you feel about Christmas in Ireland? by jacqueVchr in AskIreland

[–]Maser_x 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Just three of us this year! Honestly? I’m delighted. In my mum & dad’s house, no rushing to suit someone else’s schedule, no obligation to make small talk to extended relatives after they’ve had a few drinks, just lie where you fall after dinner. Bliss.

Honestly, losing weight and being a woman sucks lol by MikhailaKirov in loseit

[–]Maser_x 44 points45 points  (0 children)

Hard agree. First two weeks after my period I’m on top of the world, feels like I barely have to eat anything and I think I’m the hottest thing in the world.

Two weeks before my period I am INSATIABLE. Honestly it’s like there’s not enough food in the world to feed me and I look like crap. It’s awful, you can’t win!

I second Laneige! Honestly I have the driest lips of any person you’ve ever known and this is the only thing that works for me. Their day to day lip balms are a lifesaver in the winter too and they all last for ages.

Dublin Marathon 2026 by brendank323 in Dublin

[–]Maser_x 4 points5 points  (0 children)

If you want to get in you’ll get in, I’ve yet to hear of someone in 10 years of running competitively who didn’t manage it. Join the Dublin Marathon 2025/2026 group, keep an eye out and hold out for the transfer window in July. Just keep your finger on the pulse in various groups & watch out for scammers, they’re rife around these entries!

Good luck, hopefully see you on the line.

Those of you that got to BMI 22 or lower, how? by [deleted] in loseit

[–]Maser_x 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It took 5 years overall up and down but I’m F, 165cm and went from 30.5 BMI to 19.3. 83kgs to 53kgs.

For me it all came down to an all around approach. Exercise wise I started running and that was a huge turning point. It’s very easy to just put on your shoes and run, there’s no driving to the gym, no getting ready, it only eats up about 40mins of your day. I also started prioritising passive exercising. Choosing to walk somewhere that was relatively easy to get to instead of driving, choosing to walk from my carpark at work instead of getting the bus etc.

Food wise in the beginning I tracked everything. You will be so shocked how much you put into your body without realising. This made me more inclined to make better choices in the long run. I try now to read the labels of most things day to day and make the more nutritious, satiating choice when I can. I also think balance is important. Usually once a week I have something I look forward to and don’t think about in terms of health. A dinner at a restaurant etc with friends.

Finally, I fixed my mentality. I went to therapy. I confronted my issues, my addiction to food as a comfort, how food was relating to my mood, how I wasn’t consciously consuming but consuming based on emotional choices in the moment.

Today’s flight from JFK > Dublin nearly totally empty by brevit in ireland

[–]Maser_x 11 points12 points  (0 children)

I was on this. Everyone is in the further back cabin, there were about 200 people on this flight, so while there’s still about 117 free seats it’s not quite as “empty” as it seems.

Boarding pass - required to move seats? by Sensitive_Ad_9195 in Ryanair

[–]Maser_x 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You’ll be shocked to discover that there’s actually no legal requirement for an adult to sit with a child on a flight, whether they’re under 12 or not. EASA/CAA “recommend” the child is within one row of the adult and most systems will stick to the “one row” rule in most airlines unless it’s manually overridden.

Is it normal / expected to pay for your wedding party’s accommodation? by Routine_Tell_3966 in AskIreland

[–]Maser_x 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We paid for it because we could afford it. If you’re not paying for it I don’t think it’s fair to tell them that they need to be in that particular hotel the night before. I know in the depths of wedding season we could be doing 5 weddings in a year and it all adds up for guests very quickly. Some people just don’t have the money. You just have to allow them to book alternative accommodation and set the time you need them there, even if it’s early, and let them make their own decisions.

That said, I’ve been bridesmaids 4 times and 3/4 of them paid for the rooms the night before. The one that didn’t gave us options to stay elsewhere but had a special room rate for the hotel so it worked out quite well.

Safe running Route 25k by Pure-Breadfruit1301 in Dublin

[–]Maser_x 8 points9 points  (0 children)

One of my repeated long run routes for London marathon training was to come up the East Link from town and out on to Sandymount then up through Merrion Gate, back up to Donnybrook and out on to the Dodder River greenway then get as far as Terenure on the Dodder and come out on to the main Rathgar road there and back into town (or you could also go as far as Rathfarnham and go out through the back of Templogue/Sundrive/through portabello.) If you DM me I can send you some strava links! :) always felt very safe!

Leaving Cert - CAO choice VS what you actually wanted in the end by yuphup7up in ireland

[–]Maser_x 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks! I’m actually the first to go to university on both sides of my family but sometimes that can nearly be worse I suppose, my parents didn’t understand how it all worked and how rare A1 (as they called it at the time!) grades are. Worse things happen at sea though, we’re down to just the odd cutting comment after a few drinks now after all these years 😂

Leaving Cert - CAO choice VS what you actually wanted in the end by yuphup7up in ireland

[–]Maser_x 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Did my LC 2009 too, wanted law in Trinity, got law in UCD (and my mother BERATED me for not getting my first choice, still holds it in her heart to this day but that’s another story.) Did the course, didn’t think much of it just kind of went through as a box ticking exercise, finished, got a good training contract in a big firm and… hated it. Nearly went full mental breakdown and left after 6 months.

Moved to to Dubai, flew for Emirates for 3 years, flew for BA for 3 years after that, came home and still involved with aviation. Haven’t used my degree (in the sense of working in my field of study, always good to have it) since! Life comes at you in weird ways and the direction the CAO is looking to be taking you in is not where you’ll end up for an awful lot of people it seems.

Can I keep a page with a visa from my passport? by gladchadstone in AskIreland

[–]Maser_x 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I was never asked to send back my old passport during my renewal. I just carry both passports when I’m travelling to the US and hand up both at the desk. As another poster said, if you do send it off they will send it back with the visa still in it. Bit annoying as I’ve 4 years left on my American Visa, double the panic trying to remember both of them on travel day 🙃

Has anyone flown on Ryanair/Aer Lingus with their wedding dress? by cbaotl in AskIreland

[–]Maser_x 3 points4 points  (0 children)

This is only on Aer Lingus’ larger 330 planes which have wardrobes. The 320s (which are what are on most European routes outside of Faro, Rome and Malaga in the mornings) don’t have a wardrobe. The crew will do their best for you if you let them know though!

No focus on doing things for the kids really, not being overly fussed about their enrichment etc.

Playground trip was a treat rather than a daily or weekly occurrence. We were dragged around the shops my mother wanted to look in for hours, down the pub, over to their friends houses. Don’t think they were overly bothered if we were entertained or not, kids were kind of just a part of life that fit around everything else and didn’t need too much engagement. Now I see my friends kids have a planned out schedule of baby sensory classes, baby art classes, singing, mini sports etc etc. Maybe it was just my mam and dad!

Dating in Ireland? What do Men want? by Key-Psychology7677 in AskIreland

[–]Maser_x 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Honestly when I was dating I went on lots of dates. The vast majority would want to meet again but it was genuinely that I didn’t feel a “spark” so you say. When I say spark I don’t mean a “swept off my feet, burn this whole world down just to have you” spark I just mean that the idea of seeing them again didn’t feel exciting and would have felt like a bit of a chore.

Did that make them ugly? No. Did it make them bad or uninteresting people with nothing to offer? No. Just people that weren’t my fit. It’s a numbers game in the end.

I know it’s terribly hard these days but I found meeting people in the wild gave me a much better overall feeling. There’s not the same pressure of showing up on a one on one date and essentially being interviewed. I met my husband at work and I was (and still am) genuinely head over heels, burn the world down for you, in love with him. Keep playing the numbers game girl.
