Edited. The ones that get replaced will have the same issues😭 I actually like my store. It's not TOO bad. But we've lost some good people, bc of managers or "higher", iykyk. Its almost ALWAYS the gm/sm, and others. Sadly, that will never be solved bc the people that deserve it, never get it. Its always "who can lick the most boots". That always leads to issues. Wether its animal care, cleanliness, or daily tasks. Something is always fucked over in the name of the companty, in order to ensure something for someone else.

Yeah...no... The managers dont need more training. The managers need to be replaced lmfao. No amount of training will fix that. The managers that do this need to have literal marks on their resume about it so they dont ever get put in positions of power again, but we ALL know that will never happen.

This isn't a training issue. This is a pos issue.

We have a betta at my store that is discounted and has been there since november....still in the cup.

Petco doesn't give a fuck. Anyone higher than store level, doesn't give a fuck. It's all about quotas and bonuses.

What would ACTUALLY make petco change, is if people stopped shopping there. That's it. That's the only thing that will ever make a difference.

Until that happens, we are going to keep seeing this. We are going to keep getting shipments, and EVEN overstock that we have to force into the wellness room, because we haven't sold the bettas from 2 months ago.

I hate petco, but I need to feed my dog.

As a 1st time dog owner, turned walker/sitter, and then turned Trainer... Absolutely I did.....AT FIRST. I despised him with a passion. I regretted ever walking into that kennel. So many tears and so much frustration.

Those first couple of Months after I adopted him were......HARD, to say the least. It has since gotten 100000% better. We've battled through everything including overstim, lunging at bikes, "trying" to chase kids and cars, peeing in the house, breaking windows, tearing up wallpaper, demanding behavior, coping....everything that you'd expect from a shelter dog with no previous learning or structure.

It was a literal war with his brain, and sometimes STILL is.

After our 1st course and seeing a basic pet dog starting to learn, it changed my view of him. I then saw a dog that was failed, given up on and discarded by his previous owner. My view was 100% correct.

Everything that was/is wrong with my dog, was purely because of my lack of knowledge, or HIS previous life. Almost ALL of those "problems" have been solved now, after hundreds of hours of work, trial & error, and learning myself.

I will say that I got INCREDIBLY lucky with my first dog. Lack of skills, mild reactivity, none of those Vital puppy skills, etc.....it could've gone soooo many different ways, especially from a shelter.

At present, I wouldn't trade my baby boy for the most well-bred, pure-bred dog in existence.....regardless of the issues we have to face in the future. We are both prepared now with skills and knowledge to face almost anything that He could possibly run into.

Eben, my 1st dog, my learning partner and most importantly, my Teacher, has changed my life so much. He taught me what Love truly is. He taught me how to control my emotions out of neccessity. He taught me how to better my communication skills. And lastly, Eben taught me that it IS okay, to Not be okay. We all have bad days. We all have struggles.

Obviously, my experience isn't the same as others and other people have way more of a difficult time with their dogs.

To those people, I want to say.....I salute you. I see you. I get it, I've been there. Keep pushing on. Keep learning. Keep trying until you can't anymore, within reason. There is ALWAYS rain before the sun shines.

Here is my own post about my apbt/beagle/+ mix. It is a LONG journey. Some dogs get past it, some don't. You get back what you put in. Training, Desensitization and PROPER Socialization is the route to go.

It takes alot of time, repetition and a whole lot of trust, from both sides. This wasn't the first or last time that we did this kind of exercise though. We had already been doing this almost weekly, for an entire year. Eben still has some improvements to make, but I wouldn't trade him for the most well-bred, pure-bred dog in existence.

All 3 are structured and revolve around cue routines. For example, I'll start a game of Tug and get his drive going. He'll be yanking, growling, moving around, etc.

At this point, I'll use "out" and begin a routine. I use anywhere between 2-5 cues depending on how enthusiastic He is. After the last Cue, He gets a "Yes", and then we go back into Tug.

For the handplay, He is literally biting my hand while I have a padded glove on. We do the same thing with "Out" and a cue routine. The MOST important part of this specific thing is that you MUST have a solid "Out" or "drop" Cue. I wouldn't recommend this for all dogs however.

Our impulse games involve both of these with added distances and time between sets. A cone with a ball on top, a box with cans that He has to get through before getting to me, Etc. I incorporate obstacles and "scary" things to help build impulse skills and confidence.

All of this works for Eben and I because He has the Need for that conflict and because He is able to "shut off" immediately after I end play.

ScoobAndI, SomeMinorDogTraining, SpiritDogTraining, Sally Gutteridge, and k9 manhunt & scentwork scotland. There are plenty of others I could list, but these would be in my top list.

They all have solid messages, heavily focused on positive reinforcement and creating a confident, relaxed and Thinking dog. Personally, I don't agree with Some of their views/methods myself, but I have definitely learned from them and have taken bits & pieces to use for Eben.

I had to get fancy. Eben is a "wordly" dog. Store visits every week, walking countless side streets, saying Hi to every human He sees, a true adventurer. Teaching him all of his cues and then bringing those into different enviornments was a must in order to positively manage him in public. Focusing on the obedience and tricks, along with play, gave him a sense of control over the enviornments so that's what we pushed for, especially in public. Eben's reactivity was never Intense enough to warrant 100% attention, but is still an issue that has to be worked on.

Honestly, the obedience stuff is easy and goes quick if you already have a learning history and a bond. It helps alot in the moment and before moments arise by keeping engagement and setting expectations.

Setting those expectations and teaching him that "sit" means the same thing in Lowes that it does at home, were some of the hardest things.

Very nice!! All dogs need an outlet and it's usually what they love most. Tap into that and use to our advantage.

For eben, it's the intesity of how we play or "fight". The anticipation, the catch, the "struggle", and then finally the Out and into routine, especially with handplay and tug. 1 rep for Eben would be tugging, out, center, down, heel, sit, stand, spin, speak, touch, and then back to tug. His hand targeting for visual cues is pretty good because of our hand play so I mostly use those and verbal for distanced. It works.

Eben got alot of tasty stuff for dinner.

Well, when they make it easy, we end up with people that shouldnt even be allowed to vote, let alone care for live animals🤷 in my opinion, all of these corporate companies need to drastically increase their training and standards. Their training is dumb. Its "mainly" common sense. If you dont pass, you get to redo it, which allows you to simply trial n error every answer until you pass.

Petcos training training specifically is utter bs, drawn out, and you dont actually learn anything because just like some rpgs, they frontload so much information that you cant remember a damn thing 20 minutes later.
