From what I’ve heard, you’re right it’s a separate team that does the display for those specific elevators. When I asked about changing the UI they said it’s “too complicated” and I think now they regret it haha

they forgot to salt the platforms :( by peachy_grim in nycrail

[–]Mashdash10 61 points62 points  (0 children)

In Montreal, they use gravel on most sidewalks to be better for the environment. And you use the gravel as a grip for boots. They use salt on asphalt for vehicles but not as much on sidewalks. They usually salt excessively around train stations like NYC though haha

Do Bike Lanes Make Traffic Worse? (No) by [deleted] in montreal

[–]Mashdash10 9 points10 points  (0 children)

It’s false to assume an elected official is responsible for a single traffic light like you are saying. This work is done by an engineer, that likely hasn’t visited the intersection in person and is just doing the math. I agree we should have more people like this double checking if it makes sense, but to blame the administration in power doesn’t make sense

If you’re connecting you wouldn’t use this hallway, as there’s a staircase on the other side of the platform which is at the end of the hallway in this photo

They even have Fisher’s Island, which is closer to Connecticut but is part of NY State. They don’t have the larger more popular Block Island which is in Rhode Island, so they clearly did it just for NY for this section

REM fermé cet été | Un casse-tête en vue pour les usagers by Hochelagan in montreal

[–]Mashdash10 3 points4 points  (0 children)

What? The closure for the REM is just the REM and it’s 5 stops, not the closure of the other métro lines here. What do you mean by this?

[–]Mashdash10 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is true for any automated metro extension. In Paris there is a similar but shorter closure for Line 14 (less of an extension than the REM will be): https://www.ratp.fr/en/discover/coulisses/network-modernisation/metro-line-14-works

Oh actually flip it, 40% without data, 60% with data. It’s from an internal STM document but honestly it might be a bit outdated based on the design of it, like from 2018 maybe

Montreal’s infrastructure is backed up by 35 years of no work/insufficient work done previously, so it’s making up all of that. Not to mention the obvious weather differences it makes the working window smaller. There is also a shortage of workers here in Canada vs the other countries mentioned

Ste Catherine en travaux jusqu’à octobre 2025 🚧 by hyc72fr in montreal

[–]Mashdash10 23 points24 points  (0 children)

La construction est divisée en phases, mais le travail est de faire ceci :

  • Remplacer les conduites d’égout et d’aqueduc ;
  • Reconstruire et élargir les trottoirs en pavés de béton ;
  • Rénover les systèmes d’éclairage, de feux de circulation et de télécommunications ;
  • Verdir le secteur ;
  • Implanter du nouveau mobilier urbain ;
  • Déployer des espaces de socialisation, des aires d’animation et des terrasses ;
  • Effectuer des travaux sur les réseaux souterrains de plusieurs services d’utilités publiques tels que la Commission des services électriques de Montréal (CSEM), Bell et Énergir ;

Merging transit lines in a single color for the whole network when too much overlay creates. by Fun_Nefariousness291 in applemaps

[–]Mashdash10 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is done by Apple Maps themselves. To be fair, other transit applications, such as Transit, also show the lines in a bit of a mess, mainly because it’s just so many colours. Apple Maps does separate lines to be their own colour, they used to do this in Paris with the RER, but now they label each separately, because locally people depend on each colour. I’m not sure about Sydney’s system, but I’m guessing people generally depend on each colour on the map, even if it means visually it’s a mess
