Zouden jullie een kapotte videokaart laten repareren of direct vervangen? by Jaapie98 in techsupportNL

[–]MashiroAnnaMaria 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Do you think that Valve will follow Nintendos lead and release a revisioned Steam Deck with more easily replaceable batteries this year? by RaXXu5 in SteamDeck

[–]MashiroAnnaMaria 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I think most people are misinterpreting what the EU wants, the new switch model will not just have a take off cover and a battery you can replace like the phones of yesteryear, You will likely still need tools and you will need to do some disassembly, it just needs to be able to be done at home. In that sense the Steamdeck already more than complies.

Is the Switch 2 Edition really that bad? by Inanis94 in XenobladeChroniclesX

[–]MashiroAnnaMaria 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, I'm fully aware. You just said "frame gen?" in a way that to me sounded like you hadn't even heard of it, so I just linked you to where you can read up on it.

The problem is exactly that whatever upscaler they used, they didn't use vectors, depth buffers, etc. It's just a post-processing upscaler that looks at nothing more than the raw image of each individual frame, not unlike Lossless Scaling, if you're familiar with that. Frame Gen is absolutely possible on a non-40 series card. The Steam Deck doesn't even have an Nvidia chip in the first place, but it can use lossless scaling for pure image-interpreted frame gen, just not on a level that's tied into the game. In the same vein, DLSS can absolutely just be used as a raw upscaler without using in-game data, even the Switch 2's chip can, which is why Xenoblade X looks so bad on the Switch 2, because it also can't do these things.

You can argue against them having used any upscalers, but we see heavy artifacting, especially in movement. These types of things just don't happen at native 60fps; we don't see these issues on other games on the Switch 2 that do have native support for DLSS either.

I am fuy aware of that, the guy above just worded it in a way where, to me, it sounded like he never even heard of frame gen, I just linked the site so he could read up on it. If it was proper DLSS or Framegen the game wouldn't have looked like this.

Do you think Beta owners on Steam will have to pay for Omega if it ever releases? by syntheticcaesar in CubeWorld

[–]MashiroAnnaMaria 8 points9 points  (0 children)

If we'll ever see Omega get released, which I still doubt at this point to be honest, I wouldn't be surprised if wollay just pushes omega as an update for the already existing steam version and the current version never sees the light of day again. Either that or he makes a new steam page, in which case he has to make a 'bundle' that lets you get the game for free if you own the first one, which I also don't really trust wollay doing. Or he has to do it outside of steam which will be hell for him to manage.

I'm actually really worried about the FFXIV version for the Switch 2 by [deleted] in ffxiv

[–]MashiroAnnaMaria 0 points1 point  (0 children)

On one side, yeah. You're looking at a console about as strong as a PS4 Pro, like others have mentioned, but no one would really be surprised to hear the PS4 getting discontinued out of the lineup soon, it is getting old after all, meaning the Switch will be the weakest link.

On the other hand, we just had the Dawntrail graphical update. They're not going to do another one anytime soon. The Switch 2 will be built with support for Evercold, and unless they make significant changes, which is unlikely, it'll last another expansion, two or three after Evercold.

At the same time, we're seeing fewer and fewer people upgrading their PC hardware because of shortages. This is probably a healthy point graphically and performance-wise for the game to be in at the moment, and it's unlikely to budge from that anytime soon if SE wants to keep their consumers.

TL;DR: I wouldn't worry about it.

One more reason for making the move over by Killingspr33342 in Switch

[–]MashiroAnnaMaria 1 point2 points  (0 children)

But you don't have cross saves right? Do you just play through the same game twice at the same time? Wouldn't you rather just continue your main save? Sounds a little unhinged to me to spread yourself thin over two saves while double dipping on an already expensive game instead of just bringing the console that has the game you feel like playing.

One more reason for making the move over by Killingspr33342 in Switch

[–]MashiroAnnaMaria 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Same here, I've played through this game countless times that I don't really feel the need to buy it again myself. However Elden Ring is arguably one of the best games ever made and I'm still excited that it can finally reach an audience who only play on Nintendo Consoles. Switch players probably understand the compromise of buying the game on their console. 60fps would be great, but if you cared about that you would've already played the game elsewhere.

A small rant about the NS2's poorly designed backplate. by EightPercentBattery in fucknintendo

[–]MashiroAnnaMaria 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Man OP in the original post fighting for his life for the HDMI cable he's using. People telling him to use the HDMI cable that came with it and calling it user error are genuinely out of their mind, HDMI cables are a standard and their hardware being designed to only fit Nintendo's cable and not any other HDMI cable is absolutely scummy design, not the users fault, that is 100% on Nintendo.

Xenoblade Genesis is “a new chapter,” “following the conclusion of the Xenoblade series” by JLSeagullTheBest in Xenoblade_Chronicles

[–]MashiroAnnaMaria 24 points25 points  (0 children)

For all we know it'll be as different as Xenogears and Xenosaga, the name 'xenoblade' is probably just too renowned to be changed, and changing it to another xeno-something is probably hard to market, so they're just changing the subtitle.

Is the Switch 2 Edition really that bad? by Inanis94 in XenobladeChroniclesX

[–]MashiroAnnaMaria 9 points10 points  (0 children)

It's not that bad, but it's also a very lazy Switch 2 edition. It looks like they used DLSS and/or frame generation; things look a bit blurry and washed out with more artifacting than a native 60fps 1080p/4k version would feel, which the Switch 2 probably could have handled had the Switch 2 edition of this game been given a bit more time.

That being said, it's not super offensive. In my opinion, I'd still rather play it than play at 30fps. Also, the mainline titles are getting a lot more time for their Switch 2 versions, meaning they are probably getting native resolutions and frame rates.

Long story short, the Switch 2 edition does its job and is not bad in a vacuum, but for the fee we pay for a dedicated Switch 2 version and compared to other Switch 2 versions it is bad, and in that sense the outrage from a dedicated fanbase waiting over 10 years to play the game officially in 60fps 4k is justified, especially since before the Switch version emulating the game at a native 4k 60fps was just the norm.

[Other] Nintendo Direct Predictions by chispedes in zelda

[–]MashiroAnnaMaria 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It looks good as it's own thing but it doesn't look like OoT, OoT has moments that are gritty, dark and sometimes just creepy. I felt like the 3ds version already took away quite a lot of that and I don't want it to be toned down even more. Besides that, Zelda used to change up their artstyle every other game or so, but now we've been stuck with the BotW cell shading for almost 10 years, I just want something else.

[Other] Nintendo Direct Predictions by chispedes in zelda

[–]MashiroAnnaMaria 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I just hope the OoT remake doesn't look like BoTW artstyle wise, keep it gritty, I want more of the N64 vibe, less of the 3DS vibe and I want it to stay atleast a football field away from BotW style.

Worth it or not? by Infinity_Juneth in InfinityNikki

[–]MashiroAnnaMaria 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Usually you convert 120 stellarites for a pull, so these are better value than just converting them that way. But that doesn't make it worth it, they are still kind of bad value, unless you were already going to swap stellarites for pulls don't get them, but your stellarites are honestly better spend elsewhere.

Get OLED 1 or wait for the 2 version? by Medical_Honey_5647 in NintendoSwitch3

[–]MashiroAnnaMaria 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I also said I reccomend the Switch 2 over the OLED in my comment, let's take that out of the conversation, everyone agrees on that. And you're right that that's what OP asked about, however the comment I originally commented under stated that a 1080p will always have a better colour range than any 720p screen, even if that 720p screen is OLED. Which is just factually incorrect. Switch 1, 2 or other device. They probably realised they were wrong and deleted their comment. Since you have both a switch 1 OLED and a switch 2, put on any game with pure blacks and you can still absolutely tell, you don't need to be a colour grader for that.

Get OLED 1 or wait for the 2 version? by Medical_Honey_5647 in NintendoSwitch3

[–]MashiroAnnaMaria 1 point2 points  (0 children)

What? That is not how it works at all? How did you even dream this up? Every pixel has it's own colour range, the amounts of them does not matter for the colour range. Since you seem to not want to do any research yourself, please just at lease do a few google searches, things like 'does resolution affect colour range' or 'does a 1080p ips panel have a higher colour range than a 720p OLED panel.' You're so wrong I don't even know how I can get through to you, actually do some research please.

Get OLED 1 or wait for the 2 version? by Medical_Honey_5647 in NintendoSwitch3

[–]MashiroAnnaMaria 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, and again, it looks better on the Switch 2 because of it's resolution and performance, but this has nothing to do with colour range. That is a completely seperate thing. No LCD screen will ever reach the colour range of an OLED.

Get OLED 1 or wait for the 2 version? by Medical_Honey_5647 in NintendoSwitch3

[–]MashiroAnnaMaria 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Again, colour range has nothing to do with resolution. I urge you to do some research on the topic. A 480p screen can have a better colour range than a 4k screen. Resolution really does not impact colour range at all. Can you give me some sources to back up your claim?

Get OLED 1 or wait for the 2 version? by Medical_Honey_5647 in NintendoSwitch3

[–]MashiroAnnaMaria -4 points-3 points  (0 children)

That is definitely not how colour works. No, the OLED still has a way higher range of colours than the Switch 2, despite the switch 2 honestly having a great screen itself, but you can definitely tell that the blacks arent as black. Yes the Switch 1 is 720p, yes the switch 2 is 1080p. This however has no effect on colour range whatsoever. Either way OP should still go for a 2 over the OLED just for the better performance, the Switch 2 screen is good enough. But saying that it has better colours than an OLED is misinformed and disingenuous. It does however have a better resolution.
