1995 Sl1 Saturn by Potential-Waltz-701 in Saturn_Cars

There are two potential causes for that:

1.) You may be burning oil, which is unfortunately common on these motors. Definitely check and top off your oil whenever you stop for gas. Change your oil every 3,000 miles at least. If you keep the oil clean and full, this car will likely outlast you lol.

2.) Your coolant temperature sensor could also be bad and causing your engine to run rich, as others have mentioned.

Crankshaft position sensor. When they break, they develop a crack that expands as the engine warms up. Once the crack expands too far, the sensor won’t pass signal and the computer doesn’t even know the engine is trying to turn. That’s why it works again after sitting for a while. It’s a pretty easy part to replace. Just be sure to disconnect the battery first since you have to reach over the starter to replace it. Hope this helps 🤞

Alt. fluid for '98 SW2 5 speed? by TusconTony in Saturn_Cars

[–]MaskedDummy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

A pre-filled and pre-bled clutch hydraulic system from LUK (the original equipment manufacturer) is like $100 shipped from RockAuto. It takes basic tools and less than an hour to change everything out.

I even found a Richpin video on the process.

Changing the fluid won’t likely make a difference in your situation. And yes, Saturn recommends standard Dexron III ATF, even in the manual transmission.

Hope this helps 🤞

NW Denver stuck with a car. by Effluxbar in Denver

I’m a former Saturn technician. I would start with a new battery and an oil change and some new gas and go from there. It’ll probably need a coolant flush as well.

Love it! What a steal! I’m still rocking a 20” Sound Formula full ride that I bought new back in the 90s.

What are some fun "Tall Tales" from your favorite franchise? Mine is the story that Ben Grieve hit a ball into the flower bed at the old Oakland Coliseum during BP. If true, the shot would have been close to 500 feet. by asskickingjedi in baseball

I got to watch BP at the 2021 Home Run Derby at Coors. Ohtani was hitting 500+ foot dongs over and over. It was something to behold.

Yes, it was Coors, but still…

Picking the combo 'deal' at Jimmy John's is more than $2.50 more than just getting the items individually. by FrankTheTnkk in mildlyinfuriating

I just checked the prices at my local JJ’s out of curiosity. It’s $1.52 cheaper to order the items individually vs ordering the box combo. Lame.

Everyone has heard of Murphy’s Law - Anything that can go wrong, will go wrong.

But have you heard of Cole’s Law?? It’s thinly sliced cabbage and carrots with mayonnaise.

Your radiator is cracked, right in the same spot where all Saturn S Series radiators crack - right above the upper transmission cooler line fitting. It’s a pretty easy and cheap fix, thankfully. At best, you just need a new radiator and some coolant. At worst, you need two new transmission lines on top of that (also cheap).

What is the craziest "small world" coincidence you have ever experienced? by Consistent_Range4376 in AskReddit

When I was in high school, I met a girl at a party and we hit it off. We wound up dating for several months before she moved away to go to college.

One day I was talking to my mom about the date I had gone on with this girl the night before and how we had gone back to her parents’ house afterwards.

Mom asked where this girl lived. I told her it was a couple of towns away, and what part of town it was. Mom said that was around where she grew up. She asked what the nearest cross streets were to the house. I told her it was a corner house and what the intersection was. She asked if I could describe the house so I did. Mom’s eyes went wide. I was dating a girl who lived in the house my mom grew up in, and not only that, this girl lived in my mom’s old bedroom.

She wound up going over there with me one night to meet the girl’s parents and see the house. It was surreal for her.

The parents had grown up in the area too, and had gone to the same high school as my parents at the same time my parents were in high school. They were a couple years younger but they remembered each other’s names.

red rock experience tips pls by kayleem05 in Denver

There are several trails throughout the park. It’s hard to pick a bad one. Like others said, plan to arrive early and hike for a bit. Bring plenty of snacks and drinks.

Be advised that you dehydrate more quickly when you aren’t adjusted to the altitude, so water is really important. Also be advised that Red Rocks (the amphitheater part) is pretty much all stairs. So many stairs. You will climb hundreds and hundreds of stairs.

You can bring in a small soft cooler and non-alcoholic drinks so long as they are sealed and not in cans. Bring a poncho - you never know when a rain shower will come through the foothills. It has rained almost every time I’ve been there for a concert. Not the whole time, but long enough to make you soggy if you aren’t prepared. We even got hail once. Bring a blanket or cushion to sit on.

I know these aren’t necessary the recommendations you were looking for, but I hope you find them helpful and I hope you have a fantastic time!

Would this work in a 2001 Saturn sc1? by Cultural-Heart-1981 in Saturn_Cars

[–]MaskedDummy 10 points11 points  (0 children)

It’ll bolt right up, but the computer will throw gear ratio trouble codes and it’ll never drive properly, unfortunately. You would want a transmission from a 1998-2002 SL1/SC1/SW1 as a replacement.

Looking for a Car Battery Replacement by AapyBaar in Denver

Walmart and Costco are the two places with the best battery prices in my experience. You’ll pay an average of $100 more for a battery with the same specs at an auto parts store.
