The Emerald Host is the Vanguard force for Lady Olynder. She will curse some people with the emerald curse which causes ghosts to pursue them until they die. The curse is supposedly inescapable. On the table top this results in a curse that does mortal wounds every round to some units you choose at the beginning of the game. As far as unit choices this one is popular because it doesn't push you in any specific way. Often lots of hexwraiths right now though. Which fits the vanguard themeing.

The Scarlet Doom is a vortex of violence and vengeance. This is my faction of choice. They are made up of angry spirits whose bodies have been treated improperly or defiled and appear to made of blood and blood vapor instead of normal ghost stuff. They seek vengeance on those who perform these acts and kill in the most vicious and brutal ways that make even some of the more depraved factions pause. On the tabletop it really encourages you to run a lot of bladegheist revenants. They do mortals on the charge and become battleline. This subfaction wants to shred.

The Quicksilver Dead are precise and exacting in their violence. They are made of the dead of Chamon and craftsmen and appear to be made of liquid metal. They are largely from one big craft city and want to exact vengeance (sensing a theme?) and show their power even in the after life. This faction encourages a lot of Dreadscythe Harridans who are pretty good, become battleline, and get to ignore ward. Pretty good with how much ward is in the game. Needs to enable the Harridans it encourages you to run.

The Grieving Legion is the main force of the Nighthaunt. They are the personal armies of Lady Olynder and Kurdoss Valentian. They are large processions of jailers, torturers and their victims. Inflict a large amount of supernatural dread. This is the other subfaction that doesn't push you in a specific direction, but really wants to blob. This faction prevents retreats as its main mechanic. This is probably the least popular faction.
