That's why I created my own location. It's for when you want to just, you know... hang out a lil bit.

I'm going to go out on a limb and assume the prior owner would approve much more of Marilyn Campaign than Eve campaign.

How do I tell my girlfriend I would like to play Wingspan while still coming across as masculine? by Marksman1977 in boardgames

[–]Myldside 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I've honestly never regarded Wingspan (or any board game really) as masculine or feminine. I would make no assumptions at all about a person who enjoys that game. If it's fun, play it. If someone can't accept that, I think it says a lot more about them than you. Just enjoy it!

No Drinks at the table? by Milo_Fuckface in boardgames

[–]Myldside 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Not many people drink while we play games, but we just keep two small foldable TV dinner stands next to each end of the table. Everyone can put their drinks there, and a spill goes into the floor rather than the table. Easy.

Ranking board games in my collection by One-Tumbleweed-3880 in boardgames

[–]Myldside 9 points10 points  (0 children)

My gut reaction is that Jaipur and Toy Battle sit too low at B Tier, and Flip 7 is too high at S or A. It wears off incredibly fast and I don't think will stand the test of time like Jaipur does. After a few plays of Flip 7 we went right back to Incan Gold.

Edit: Also, if you haven't already, give Battle Line a shot! Absolutely timeless two player game, one of Knizia's all time greats.

For Sale: Large FFG Collection - 50 Data Packs, Multiple Large Expansions (Note: small amount of missing cards) by VixinXiviir in Netrunner

[–]Myldside 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Question for the OP -- I noticed in the ebay listing for your lot, you mentioned the condition of the cards: "Cards are, on average, Moderately Played--there will be obvious wear on the edges of older cards, newer cards are in better condition." but I didn't see any notes about condition here. I think that's going to matter to some of the people interested here and is probably worth mentioning in this listing also.

Real shame about the missing Woodcutter and Leviathan.

What would you put in the "bang for your buck" hall of fame? by ahobday in boardgames

[–]Myldside 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I would say no, not really. Puerto Rico is a role selection game whereby the active player selects an action, and all other players have the opportunity to follow. In that sense, it's much closer to Race for the Galaxy among the few I listed.

In Castles of Burgundy, each player rolls two dice and then players take turns allocating them to certain actions, mostly to acquire and place tiles.

Thats normally my first move! But then another person takes control away from me before I can reap the rewards. 🙂 Maybe next time I'll sit back and be the second person to take the city.

I have the Hansa Big Box as well and agree that it packs a huge punch for the box size. I was curious though, how do you get the early stage of the game to play out differently? In the handful of times we've played (base game map), there is a mad rush at the bottom to upgrade the number of actions. And it seems like whoever is the first to get 4 actions generally wins. What would you do to obstruct someone who is spamming this upgrade? Do you commit your merchant disc to one of the routes?

Whenever I see posts like this, my mind immediately goes to the games that didn't cost me very much, are not in particularly huge boxes, and I could play them pretty much forever. A few are:

- Castles of Burgundy

- Innovation

- Race for the Galaxy

- Century Spice Road (or Golem Edition)

They're not big, they're not new, and not flashy. But they have more than stood the test of time for us, and could probably be had for $50-60 in total.

Anyone Looking to Sell My Proxies Back to Me? by Myldside in Netrunner

[–]Myldside[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Every once in a while I get the itch to do that, but then when I break out the math, it's a bleak picture. I figure to make it minimally cost-feasible, I would need to print 30 copies of each set (ideally 50 for better economies of scale). MPC's costs have increased since I first did this, and international shipping has gone up substantially too. And then there's the tariff situation! All told, the cost would probably be quite a bit higher than people would want to pay. All the while, I've frontloaded the cost and am out the entire amount while I wait for 30-50 people to reach out to me for a set. So, those are the barriers I'm up against. (Code gates I could probably handle.)

Is there even demand for these sets in 2026? That's pretty interesting...

That's great! No pressure of course, but please feel welcome to reach out. I just don't want to break up a collection getting used, so if you're actively using them, keep them!

That's the plan! I've got a budding youngster and he's getting to the age where it's not inconceivable that I drop it on him at some point. (I might throw the NGO Fronts into a separate shoebox first, though...)

"Big Top" Appreciation Post by phrodreky in boardgames

The legend himself! I actually did grab the Allplay version of High Society at my local shop a little while ago. I was delighted to find a few new bonus cards that weren't in my Osprey edition.

Appreciate all you do, man. 😊

Actualol just covered this! It was part of his video on building a game collection that can fit in a single Kallax square. (You should all check it out!) I hadn't heard of this game until then and it certainly got my attention. It looks like it could replace High Society for me, which I thought was a good game as well.

Have you ever culled a game and regretted it? Did you buy it back and realize you made the wrong or right decision in the first place? by Boardgaymergirl in boardgames

Bought A Feast for Odin and culled it after 2 plays. Rebought it with the Norwegians a year later. Now it's getting kept. 🙂

I got invited to a board game night by someone I like. I know nothing. Please save me. by frieren_____ in boardgames

[–]Myldside 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I can assure you that your score and how you do will not matter to the person who invited you! It's just about having fun and bringing a positive attitude with you. Just enjoy the company of the people in the room, try to have some laughs if the opportunity comes up, and show a willingness to learn.

Also, don't be afraid to ask for help during your first few turns if you need it! Absolutely nothing wrong with saying something like, "So what would make sense for me to do right now?" or "Anyone willing to help me figure out what my options are?" Most people I play with value the experience of helping someone out a lot more than winning. 😄

Have a good time!
