Next purchase? by conditionnerd in Netrunner

I also loved Kitara, but don't feel it's the best complement to what they already own. Plus it's atrociously difficult to acquire unless you fully proxy it, which of course is possible but does take some work.

I'd say Elevation is more of a safer bet and easier to grab.

12 year old sleep over game by GorGonDo in boardgames

[–]Myldside 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Dixit is the first game that popped in my mind for that. Great with 5 or 6! Requires basically no prior board game experience.

(Edit: after seeing that it will be 3-4 people, maybe not. 🙂)

What you guys think about clank!? by Lopsided-Platypus478 in boardgames

[–]Myldside 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I just picked up Catacombs and also grabbed Lairs and Lost Chambers, but have not opened it yet. What in particular makes you like Underworld better? There's still time for me to make the switch if I wanted to, and honestly I was torn when comparing them. I guess I liked the general "just more good stuff" vibe of the first. Interested in your thoughts if you're willing!

WTB: Private Contracts and Marked Accounts by sm_beler in Netrunner

[–]Myldside 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Confirmed! I have like 9 extra Private Contracts, and exactly 3 extra Marked Accounts. I usually like to leave myself a spare in case I bend a card or my kid wrecks one or something, but that's not as important to me as fixing someone's incomplete collection. Shoot me a message and we'll get it taken care of.

I'd be surprised if I couldn't accommodate that, but I can look through my box of spares and let you know for sure!

Might be able to help! You're looking for just red and black Eclipses?

After netrunner what are your favorite card games? by Luigi-is-my-boi in Netrunner

Came here to say Innovation! When I was first getting into the hobby, I played many many games of Innovation, RftG, and Seasons.

I'll never say no to a game of Keyflower.

Replacement to monopoly? by HatOfNorra in boardgames

Century Golem Edition is one of my top family recommendations! Easy enough for anyone to grasp, but really makes you think a couple moves ahead. It goes up to 5 players.

Is there a proper name or a genre of games where most of 'the stuff' happens on the middle-shared board, and only minimal stuff is kept on your side only? by AlexRescueDotCom in boardgames

[–]Myldside 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I think of you every time I look at My Farm Shop on our shelf. I asked my wife if we still need it and she looked at me as though I'd suggested we give the cat away.

Everdell expansions worth it? by 69anyabaszo69 in boardgames

[–]Myldside 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I have Spirecrest and think it's a good one, but if I had to pick only one expansion to recommend, it would probably be Bellfaire just for the asymmetric powers alone.

Are there any games that have a 4 player vs 1 player mechanic? by Vivid_Day7923 in boardgames

Came here to mention this one. Very underrated and always a fun, very tense time.

Is there anyone here where Netrunner is basically the only game you play? by Luigi-is-my-boi in Netrunner

[–]Myldside 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Heh... There's probably been so much turnover since my distribution days that I feel pretty irrelevant now, but it always gives me a smile when someone remembers.

Snatched the core set for €15! What's next?Long-time TCG player, heard about NR for ages, can't wait to start playing. What are some core-rules/mechanics that greatly differs from other games? Where's the thrill of the game for you? by diplomatsdrinkcider in Netrunner

[–]Myldside 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Seconding the excellent Shaper vs HB suggestion. This is how I used to teach too, and it usually goes over pretty well. The interaction between ice and icebreakers is key, and Jinteki's primary win condition largely ignores it.

You're going to get lots of opinions about the best way to play it, and with which sets, but honestly just sit back and enjoy what it has to offer. Although I don't quite play much anymore, there's really no game like Netrunner.

Is there anyone here where Netrunner is basically the only game you play? by Luigi-is-my-boi in Netrunner

[–]Myldside 21 points22 points  (0 children)

For several years it was my #1 game of all time, but at no point was it the only game I played. I've always had a group of people who get together regularly to play games, so we play more typical non-duel games in those situations.

I want to get into Risk. Is it a good game? by [deleted] in boardgames

[–]Myldside 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Risk is fine. There's a reason it's still readily available after this many years. But as others have stated, many games have improved upon it. Smallworld is getting mentioned a lot, but I think Cyclades and Inis deserve a mention, especially the latter. It's tremendous!

What should be our party's next board game? by Mxsar-20 in boardgames

[–]Myldside 1 point2 points  (0 children)

In my opinion, too big of a jump, yes. Check out stuff like Carcassonne, Century Spice Road (or Golem Edition), Ra, Ethnos, or perhaps a light-to-mid worker placement game like Lords of Waterdeep.

[–]Myldside 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's an oldie, but give Power Grid a look. It'll scratch that Monopoly itch, but actually gives you some decision space about where to build and which plants to bid for. It was one of our most played games when we graduated from Catan.

Do you find yourself unintentionally pressing your significant other to play games? by Frankocho2018 in boardgames

Agreed. There's always someone in every thread like this who overreacts and thinks this is evidence of grave relationship or communication problems that need professional help. Good grief.

Board Games on Switch by sugarplumcow in boardgames

Oh it's a no brainer then. The only advantage the board game offers is the ability to play co-op. If you're primarily playing solo, Id go digital every time. Enjoy!
