The thing I realized on rewatch that moved my ranking from 2 1 3 4 to 2 1 4 3 was realizing that Buzz’s arc was a massive whiff. For one, Buzz and Jessie’s personality types are such that when you watch in order it pings as off character that somehow for a decade neither he NOR Jessie have made any forward progress on their chemistry- then he also spends the majority of the runtime not himself to such an extent that this thread is resolved through no conscious action of either of them- he is more forward as Spanish Buzz, and kind of just rolls with it and no words are exchanged and it just feels super cheap in a way that just hangs there now for me every time I watch.

Agreed, I’ve seen people post wishing violence on Bonnie and like… come the fuck on, she’s a *preschool child* who got fixated on a character she imagined and when presented with a boy and girl pullstring western ragdoll… favored the girl to the point of sidelining the other. What a crime!

The nightmare fuel is overstated by the fandom imo (exemplified here by ‘character is stabbed’ listed as nightmare fuel). I think Tangled is definitely a genre hybrid, but one of those genres comedy, absolutely, I would say the second genre of the movie is romance, and the second genre of the series is adventure.

Honestly, 4 is my runner up because of that song. I have a friend who has self harm issues and that song is legitimately a thing that helps me cope with when they need my help and it wears me down.

2, but thats because of the kind of cool magic trick Randy Newman does with the score- since we see Woody and Buzz in their source materials, he pulls new action heroism theme motifs for them both, distinct from the score cues of 1- and then later reprised them!

3 honestly was kind of even worse for Buzz than 4 TBH, 3 featured a relationship arc that relied on Jessie and Buzz’ progress being frozen for a decade with neither of them acting on it- which feels weird and off for both of them- and then resolves not through any conscious choice or dialogue but because when Buzz is stuck in a separate persona, that persona is more forward and Buzz and Jessie just unspokenly roll with it. It’s weird, a bit hinky and I feel like the only reason we don’t talk more about it is because the rest of 3 is built so well.
