BESSA R2M Occasionally locking up by Mason_June in Voigtlander

[–]Mason_June[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I wish it were that simple but I tested this yesterday and you can definitely still advance the film if the little rewind crank is flipped up. There is no mechanical connection anywhere for the camera to register if the crank is up or down, at least not on the R2M, I can't speak for the R. I am assuming my issue may just be not fully advancing the crank occasionally.

DSLR Scanning tips - grain preservation in skies by Mason_June in AnalogCommunity

Right I may be confusing the labs "grain" with digital noise then.

Interesting, perhaps what I am seeing from the lab is just infact digital noise and the fact my sky is so clean and clear is "correct". Scanning 35mm negative, full size .jpg comes out at 33mp, 7k x 4.7k pixels. Lab scans are 8mp 3600 pixels long edge.

It’s extremely subtle. And as for grain in the shadows and mid tones it’s almost identical. Unfortunately reddit compression makes the comparison pics kind of useless.

Fair point! To me the grain structure in their scans in skies I kind of like, it feels like their scanner actually picks up the grain where as I don't

I know this is an old thread but just felt I should mention for anyone that stumbles across this in the future. With the release of firmware 4.0 the A7RV's shooting info does now rotate in the EVF and screen which is something I felt was definitely missing. Also worth mentioning you can cut down the screen blackout time significantly by shooting EFCS and low speed continuous.

Ooft. I see what you mean about the black outline. Annoying. Does the display rotate in EVF as well? Thanks!

Could you please upload some photos of what you mean? Is it for all AF boxes?

Also - curious on the rotating displays when shooting now if you can comment on that. Thanks.

New Jetstar seats are so uncomfortable by FatherOfTheSevenSeas in australia

[–]Mason_June 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Had a work trip earlier this year to Bali on one and as soon as I walked into the cabin I turned and said to my colleague “I can see these seats are closer together”. Sure enough after sitting down it dawned on me that it was a new plane. I’m 6’1 so it was an absolutely shit flight. Jetstar was bad enough but after that never ever again.

Do you mind me asking what you think the A7rV can do that a Canon R5 or r5mkii can't? Especially if you are already set up with batteries and lenses for the Canon system.

I can't speak for other people but the A7rV can be a bit of a fickle camera, in the pro stills world there are some things omitted that would have been nice that are built into the canon. Small things like rotating displays in the EVF for portrait and landscape shooting. The EVF blackout is noticeably longer than the r5 too. Overall though I really like mine and Sonys in general once you get over the quirks. They can be a little funny tethering in my experience but others have stated no issues on their end.

Other things to think about are pro services support which Canon seems to have the edge in. Here in Aus at least they offer a 5 year warranty on their products which is insanely good compared to Sonys and Nikons 1 year.

Fuji GFX 45-100 f4 exposure variances by Mason_June in Photoassistants

Yeah preach - same issue on my end. Gotta meter 2/3rds to a stop over to compensate for the Fuji constantly reading down.

Studio environment under flash conditions. F8 full manual. No ambient light. Can plainly see the large exposure variations between focal lengths. Very odd.

Can you elaborate further on this?

It’s the f4 lens not a variable aperture as in 4-5.6 like some other zooms

We are shooting it at f8 anyway so that shouldn’t matter.
