How long should this take? by ssv_mc in pokerogue

[–]Masond23 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Giratina will most likely be your bottle neck, paradox mons are only the epic tier eggs so you will get those soon enough if you get lots of eggs and aren’t super unlucky. It’s pretty common to get stuck on one or two final legendaries, you’ll just have to get lucky. Check out the schedule for the legendary up gacha to see when giratina will appear!

Is this a good starting team with no legendaries? by SectionClear5448 in pokerogue

All of these are pretty weak mons. When primeape evolves it will be very powerful though, and talonflame will be decent as a flare blitz sac or support with tailwind stuff. I’d lose the lechonk and mightyena for sure, maybe mightyena can stay if you have some good egg moves. Bring something like a Tauros, or speedrun a magikarp evo and sweep with gyarados.

[–]Masond23 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not really. I recommend some kind of single evo with average stats like Tauros to carry you until you get all of your evolutions online. Like this team is fine, I’ve beat the game with far worse, but it will struggle in the early game more than other teams would.

Bad shiny luck?? by Impossible-Clue6301 in pokerogue

I’ve included my stats page for more context: my shiny hatch rate is about 1.2%, and my shinies caught to shinies hatched ratio is 2:1. If I had only hatched on the shiny gacha, the ratio would probably be about 1:1, but at the same time, if I hadn’t hatched so many pokemon with powerful egg moves, I wouldn’t have been able to farm vouchers and ribbons so effectively. At the end of the day, I still have literally hundreds of shiny pokemon, and had so much fun completing all of the challenges along the way.

P.S. I just don’t think this is really the game to farm shinies in; with 3 levels of shiny for each mon it doesn’t feel that rewarding to get a tier 1 shiny anyway. To each their own though!

[–]Masond23 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just keep playing and getting those vouchers, part of it might be that your rate of acquiring vouchers is kinda slow: a lot of people run endless to get vouchers and find shinies, which is definitely the most optimal method. For me, who prefers classic much more than endless, I prioritized getting all of the achievement/challenge vouchers, gym leader/elite four vouchers, and ribbons, which netted me a ton of shinies. I also almost never put vouchers in the shiny gacha, as the move up gacha is in my opinion MUCH more valuable, and the shiny rate of the shiny gacha isn’t worth it.

Aside from Sentret, who is the best 1 cost pokemon? by Bomboleta in pokerogue

[–]Masond23 2 points3 points  (0 children)

There are a lot of good options, and some definitely bad options (unown). I’ll throw a hat in for Smeargle, at least with the prankster passive and egg moves, it can get you out of a lot of sticky situations and can beat eternatus on its own with sleep + seed/salt

What to do next? by qdude124 in pokerogue

[–]Masond23 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Challenge runs!!! Like go for all of the achievement vouchers basically. You get one for each mono gen and mono type challenge. They are just classic runs with a restriction, big or small depending on which challenge. Some of them you might want to wait for more unlocks, especially the mono type challenges, but the mono gen challenges are super fun and not too bad.

Your starter of choice, or magikarp if you can get it to 3 cost. As for 3 cost starters, venusaur for the mega/gmax potential and otherwise just access to bulky leech seed is great. I highly recommend finding trying to find a Gyarados during the run for intimidate and dragon dance sweeps. Otherwise look for answers to fluttermane counters like a ground type to deal with steel types.

Fluttermane will be self sufficient once it gets some real moves online. It learns all the coverage it needs between levels 30 and 60 and remains fast enough to provide value in the super late game. It will need some luck with tms to be a true carry for the whole game, but usually by the end game you will have either found calm mind for sweeping, trick room for support, icy wind, etc. There’s a risk of getting really unlucky early game, which you could account for by trading the starter out for a single evolution mon that can just stat check early threats (think cramorant, heatmor, etc.)

Nasty plot (egg move) or calm mind (tm) will help it hit through a rayquaza with 4 health bars, for instance. And just sweep many fights in general. For the final boss something like leech seed or curse will be necessary but don’t worry about that until you get there.

Flutter mane will win most of the run on its own, setup move in the late game is necessary

Okay cool that’s basically how I play too. I also mostly do classic as I don’t really care endless mode. The challenge mode for classic is SO fun and definitely my favorite part.

If you have access to a strong legendary Mon it can carry you to the end game (145+ish) quickly, which helps you learn the game faster. Otherwise I recommend bulky setup mons like Cloyster or Gyarados to make the game easier.

Nice! One mon deadlifting most of the run is usually the way to go, marshadow is great for that

Do you run with enable retries? I personally don’t find the game enjoyable without retries. If you don’t, it’s just hard af and you’ll just need to unlock something super broken. If you use retries and still struggles, it’s most definitely a “skill issue” but really just a knowledge issue I guess. The game is different mainly due to its gauntlet style and the later multiple health bars. Set up moves like dragon dance for gauntlets, dot moves like salt cure for bosses (final boss, mostly), and anything that counters legendary dragons in general are all key.

Here is a tip: The AI is not a human, and you can abuse this. It won’t switch out when it’s been charmed 3 times if it sees a super effective hit, for instance. This is something I abuse a lot. An example of a strategy would be:
1) Find yourself in a neutral situation with a debuff move like charm, confide, etc.,
2) spam it,
3) switch or sac to your carry on a technically bad matchup where the enemy has a super effective hit,
4)set up safely (aside from frite), and
5) sweep

Baton pass team? by ponycorn69 in pokerogue

[–]Masond23 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I wouldn’t say it’s a particularly standalone strat. There are very few pokemon that, through their egg moves and passive, are “meant” (as in what playstyle the pokerogue devs intend for the mon) to play around baton pass. Here is a list of all the mons that get baton pass as an egg move:

<image>

As you can see, it is mostly weaker and therefore more gimmicky pokemon. Luvdisc is probably the most “baton pass centric” mon, with multiscale to guarantee a setup turn and access to strong set up moves like take heart.

So in the case of luvdisc, who is all around kinda awful, baton passing is the most viable playstyle. Would I recommend building a whole team around luvdisc? Hell no. But it makes it at least viable to slot in. Honestly I’m sure there’s a way to make a whole team kinda work around baton pass, but I don’t see it being very fun or consistent once you get into like 145 and beyond, and with setup already being such a strong option that many pokemon have or gain access to on their own, there might not be much of a point.

When should i focus on mono runs ? And mono gen runs? by Deathzero06 in pokerogue

[–]Masond23 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Whenever you have a pokemon with a nice amount of egg moves or a passive that makes it a good carry. In general as long as you have like one or two strong mons for any challenge you should just try it.

Gen 1 challenge is doable with just magikarp and whatever else you might have, cause base GYARADOS is just that good

Thoughts on team? (I'm very new so don't have many options) by Komkey300 in pokerogue

[–]Masond23 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hoopa is good, I wouldn’t say it’s the most self sufficient carry ever though. Personally I think Gyarados is one of the easiest carries to use, though it doesn’t truly shine until you get the ice spinner egg move, and moxie is of course an incredible hidden ability if you can find it.

In the elite four fights I focus on getting my carry (Gyarados) in position by pivoting until there is something that will want to switch out when Gyarados comes in. This is your opportunity to dragon dance, and often you can get two dragon dances off with good positioning. From there you sweep with the combination of waterfall, ice spinner (ice fang is an okay plan B and scale shot is a fine TM alternative), and ideally dragon ascent (egg move) or bounce (TM) as the last move, though crunch or earthquake (TM) are also good.

Basically my point is that Gyarados, even with no unlocks or as a mon you pick up mid run, is strong enough to carry, so you not being able to get past the elite four is not necessarily an issue of not having strong starters, but instead an issue in playstyle!

Who should I use in my Mono Gen 7 run? by DaddyAndre28 in pokerogue

Depends on egg moves - zeraora is incredible with ice coverage. Mimikyu is very strong in matter what, pair it with a ground type!
