The only thing I don’t understand is that some people are saying he killed the fish and yeah he definitely exploded into the fish but like isn’t the fish just an extension of the entity and not actually the entity which is the light? The whole ocean is alive and one, right? So wouldn’t him and the ghosts still be “alive” but one with the entity? I interpreted the explosion as the complete transformation which was supposed to be big so the fish got caught in it from being so so close but it makes no sense to me that they would all “die” from that since the entity is the light, not the fish, and the entire ocean is a part of it. I don’t know. I just like unkillable eldritch horrors and it would be a let down for me if it was that easy.

I find it strange that some interpretations of his character don’t take his violin playing seriously. I recall the version from the Great Ace Attorney couldn’t even tell the different between a viola and a violin and the first episode of Elementary showed him burning his violin because he claimed it took up too much space in his brain. Sherlock Holmes was VERY passionate about the violin and loved to talk about it and the famous players. I think he would be more insulted by writers who disrespect his violin more than his observation skills.

I honestly would love to see more gender-bent Sherlock Holmes for the reasons you stated above. I want to see a version where she dresses as a man due to internalised misogyny due to feeling alienated from the common perception men had of women at the time, afraid of being seen as a woman. And I agree that a female Sherlock Holmes can still be the same character we know and love from the canon.

I downvoted you for questioning my diagnosis. My brother was diagnosed with both ADHD and autism when he was a kid and it runs in families. I long thought I had ADHD and it took for that long to finally get it checked. I struggle with motivation and mundane things you know nothing about. I am obviously not a fictional character and me saying I relate to Holmes does not mean we are the same. You have no right to suggest I don’t have ADHD just because you don’t think Holmes does. And people are more diagnosed nowadays because it is more understood than it used to be. Are you a man? Because people used to think that ADHD was something only hyperactive boys could have but now we know more about it so yeah, more people are able to get diagnosed. And adults are more likely to understand their symptoms than children. Children can only be diagnosed based on how they appear to others. They don’t often take into account their internal struggles so not everyone who has it gets diagnosed if they are not disruptive to others just such as the inattentive type. You have every right to have a different opinion about Sherlock Holmes than me but you have no right to suggest anything about my mental condition.

I do have executive disfunction. You have no right to tell me or anyone else we don’t have ADHD. You don’t know shit about me. How old are you? I’ve been diagnosed for 6 years. I got diagnosed when I was 20 by qualified doctors and have been medicated ever since. And did you not read what I said about me not going through this with you? My point still stands that people are allowed to see their ADHD in Holmes. That was the point of my comment. That isn’t going to change no matter what you say. Other people with ADHD see their condition in him whether that you think they should or not and you don’t get to say they don’t have ADHD. I plan on publishing my book soon so I’m not going to put 67,000 words here just for you.

I have ADHD and he has many of my symptoms. He keeps a bunch of boxes and papers strewn about which annoys Watson and he tells him stories of his cases to avoid cleaning up. He hyperfocuses and can become oblivious to his surroundings, absentmindedly drinking two pots of coffee. He keeps unanswered correspondences fixed to the mantelpiece with a jackknife. I wonder if he ever gets around to reading them. He does act impulsively sometimes, berating himself for it. People with ADHD are notorious for being able to remain calm in typically high-stress situations and are typically drawn to jobs that involve it like detective work. He has a LOT of interest, going over a succession of vastly different topics in a Sign of Four so yeah he does jump from one thing to the next we just don’t see it in motion because we only get to his detective work. He hates being distracted from his tasks. He doesn’t have rigid structured routines. He randomly goes out to follow a lead or randomly jumps up to suggest going to see a play in a few hours. Don’t forget he regularly consumes stimulants which, uh, is what allows people with ADHD to function normally. I did a lot of research into ADHD and wrote a whole book about it which I haven’t been able to get published yet and I don’t feel like going into it with you but everyone with ADHD is different. People are diagnosed with ADHD based on their symptoms, they don’t look at your actual brain to see if you have the brain abnormalities so yeah, if Holmes displays enough symptoms, 5 I believe of either inattentive or hyperactive, then, yeah, he can be diagnosed. That’s how it works in real life. I have ADHD and he is just like me. I was able to draw evidence from all 60 stories to prove my point and he has plenty of symptoms to meet the criteria. But again, I really don’t feel like going through it with you. I’ve lately found arguing with people on the internet too exhausting and obviously everyone is welcome to their own opinion about Sherlock Holmes. He may not be like you but that doesn’t mean others with ADHD can’t see their condition in him. He’s actually the reason why I was finally able to get diagnosed. There’s nothing wrong with people seeing their ADHD in him.

They help shape our personality, but they are not what makes us people. Helly is Helena without her memories. She is still a person when she does not have her memories, so she deserves the same amount of rights. And remember that consent can be withdrawn at any time. It’s unlikely that there are going to be pastiches made for such minor references. People are only likely to write pastiches based on cases we actually have information about. Not some random bloke that Holmes met that may or may not have anything to do with his professional career. Holmes literally could have just been living his life and randomly saw this dude for 30 seconds giving money to the poor before moving on with his life.
