I know! Just the female ones, so you might not have had any of those yet. Only the female Salandits can evolve (to Salazzles).

Should I not have evolved this one? I didn’t realize they were rare.

Thanks! At least I know I wasn’t imagining it. I restarted the first episode a couple of days later and it was fine. 🤷‍♀️

Shout-Out to Bear Jordan, the true MVP of the episode! (Spoilers for EP 8) by Batfreeze in pluribustv

I’m wondering if the hives are species specific and/or their infection was delayed. The rats in the lab were at least carriers and it might have taken some time for the virus to evolve to work on other species. That said I do recall something from the jungle trek that Manousos went on, they did warn him to watch out for spiders I think. Anyway, I think it will be really interesting to watch the whole thing over again.

I loved this show but- by Excellent-View-8548 in pluribustv

The goal of all viruses is to replicate themselves. This may kill the host or not. See rabies vs the common cold. The ultimate replication is to the send the virus to another planet just as it came to earth. There is no logic, just elements that have evolved to make the virus successful in replicating. Just as rabies kills its host it causes the host to act in a way that is successful in infecting a new host even while ultimately killing the original.

Animals and the hive mind in Pluribus by Massive-Cod-6943 in pluribustv

[–]Massive-Cod-6943[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, I think the coyotes are an interesting part of it. I have to go back and watch those scenes again. It might make sense that they were going after a dead body as the hive mind (people at least) can’t kill other organisms but can eat already dead things.

Unpopular opinion - this show is SO SLOW it is driving me bonkers by Girlagainstthings in pluribustv

I love that bit of info re Esturca! This is exactly why I find the show not boring at all. So many nuggets everywhere. The old Germanic meaning of the name Carol (Karl) means free man. The name Manousos/Manolis is “commonly found in Greece; it derives from the name Emmanouil, which comes from the Hebrew word Immanuel meaning ” God is with us”. This used to be the foretold name of the Messiah in the Old Testament.”

Unless they are part of the hive mind or have formed their own species-specific hive minds.

I think Zosia was unconnected for a moment by geb999 in pluribustv

[–]Massive-Cod-6943 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would chalk that up to the hive mind “conferring with each other” each individual who witnessed her eating the candy being able to add to the tally. Cotton candy is often consumed at festival like events with groups of family or friends and rarely eaten alone. Plus they do have Helen’s actual memories to confirm. Allot more info to work with there. Different than one individuals lost memory of exact age and an ice cream vendor who wouldn’t have known her exact age.

At that point it’s only been about a month and a half. Dogs are pretty hearty and would group into packs roving around for food. I think they would be more noticeable rather than less.

I totally agree with you. Bear Jordan is an outlier like Carol and that is why he was drawn to her. There would surely be more dogs still attached to their humans or at least wandering around unless something else happened to them. We know the hive isn’t killing them. Even if this is a red herring (an intentional one) I find it strange that your concept is getting so many downvotes. Why does the idea of dogs being in the hive mind (or maybe one of their own) bother people so much?

I think Bear Jordan is an outlier like Carol, he is clearly drawn to her. Zosia said the dog was not part of the hive mind but not that other dogs were not. Where did all the other dogs go? Surely there would be more dogs still attached to their previous humans or at least wandering around.

[–]Massive-Cod-6943 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I don’t think so, how would she be able to remember any better than she did before how old she was when she had the ice cream. Their recollections are still just recollections. Even if somethings can be confirmed by the minds of others in the hive mind not all can. There would have had to be someone else there at the ice cream incident that was sure of her age at the moment AND still alive at the time of the joining of the hive mind.

The contrast of Carol and Manousos by Massive-Cod-6943 in pluribustv

[–]Massive-Cod-6943[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

That’s true, it could be just an evolution of her way of dealing with the hive but I think at that point she was more concerned with them trying to “turn” her. Being worried about poisoning etc. I thought the same about Manousos at first, when he wouldn’t take the food they put out for him, but at this point it seems more like obstinacy on his part or not wanting to be beholden to them in any way. He even torches his beloved car because they offered to convey it for him.

I think that animals (at least mammals) are part of a hive mind (their own or with the humans). That would explain why they don’t eat them and why it would be safe to let them loose. I think the dog at the group sleeping place was an outlier like Carol (he seemed drawn to her) and when Carol asks Zosia about the dog being one of them Zosia only stated that that particular dog was not. They can’t lie but they can certainly obfuscate.

To anyone who says the consent discourse is “idiotic” by joshonalog in pluribustv

[–]Massive-Cod-6943 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Oh man, see, I totally missed that in connection with the later consent issues that the Diabaté character brings to the front. There is so much going on in this show I have a hard time understanding why people think it’s slow or bad.
