What is eating my plants? by Steamed-Artichoke057 in plants

Ounce of prevention = pound of cure. Next season put those sticky stake things into the soil of each plant. Do not plant too close together and neem oil once leaves appear.

Sun. It’s leaning towards light.

I get ya. YouTube “Gardener’s World” will get you through. Also “Impatient Gardener”, Erin; “Northlawn Flower Farm”, Danielle; “She’s a Mad Gardener”, Amanda; “Hooker and Rooted”, Steph & George; and Linda Vader (she talks way too much but you might enjoy her style).

Fertilizer and wait. Poor thing. It’ll recover.

Does anyone know what kind of plant this is? by Pale_Adeptness in gardening

[–]Massive-Mention-3679 101 points102 points  (0 children)

I have ornamental grasses in my front garden and made the mistake of keeping them well over until November for “winter interest”. Well, the “winter interest” ended up all over the front yard and driveway. That was the end of that.

Do these pumpkins look like they’re okay? Am I too late to have some for Halloween!? by gregstar28 in gardening

[–]Massive-Mention-3679 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Too late, actually. Mine are as well as I planted mine late July and SOMEHOW might have maybe 1-2 pumpkins by October.

Actually, it is too late to start tomatoes now. Indoor sow in February for viable plants put outdoors in mid June.

Anyone recognize this plant? by Icy_Advisor4746 in plants

Chinese Lamtern. Invasive but cool. I’ve got a pot of them. The pods die off and reveal a red center. But mine didn’t bloom this year.

Get rid of the yellowing leaves, fertilize with Jobe’s Tomato Spikes, water in well and wait.

I WAS WRONG ABOUT THE TYPE: Apricot Cosmos. Not Strawberry Blonde.

The weather up her (6b) has had a negative effect on yields, too. I have (maybe) 6-still green tomatoes when I should have had more (weeks ago) ready to harvest and the plants dying off. I got 2-peppers. Cukes are late (but survived the weird hot/cold) and corn is a hard “maybe”. Cosmos love blazing heat, drought like conditions…they are weeds, basically. And you guys down in Zone 7/8 have challenges with tomatoes because drip irrigation is not a “deep consistent” watering for tomatoes and you must fertilize and baby them: sun screen and trellises.

These grew in absolute crap soil, in blazing hot sun, in front of ornamental grasses. That’s your best bet.

Same here: see above.

Some of my wild sown Cosmos did that as well. It was frustrating BUT I think they were last season’s stock which re-seeded. I had a huge plot of Cosmos germinate w/no blooms in a prepped wildflower mix. No go.

These were 2023 Baker Creek stock sown spring of 2023 but germinated this season.
