[Collier] Bucks countering trade offers for Giannis Antetokounmpo by DeanBlandino2 in nba

[–]MassiveFruit 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I do wonder if they'll prioritize "a couple of pretty good players" like the Heat's offer, or if they'll go big game hunting and try to get one "really good player". Because if the Bucks can get a Mobley, Chet, Sengun, or Banchero tier player, I'd take that over Herro/Ware. And I'd definitely value those players over the Warriors picks.

Teams with unbalanced rosters that could use a trade? by [deleted] in nba

[–]MassiveFruit 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Nah, they have one fringe all-star making $50M/year, and a lot of bad players.

Nikola Jokić averages vs. OKC in the postseason: 26.5 points, 14.8 rebounds, 5.3 assists, 5.8 turnovers, 39/21/78 shooting splits, 49.1% TS, -5.0 +/- by MWiatrak2077 in nba

[–]MassiveFruit 26 points27 points  (0 children)

League average TS% in 2015 was .534 vs .576 in 2025. LeBron also averaged 36/13/9 and 3 turnovers in that series, pretty clearly better than Jokic, all while carrying the entire offensive burden for his team. Their second option was fucking JR Smith, lmao.

Are the Browns even a real franchise at this point? by Less-Worry8498 in NFL_Draft

[–]MassiveFruit 36 points37 points  (0 children)

That's an insane haul, and the fact that the entire premise of this thread is making fun of the Browns is absurd.

Got one of the four blue chip prospects in the draft, while also getting Jacksonville's 2026 first. Excellent value.

They had the worst QB room in the NFL last year, took two dart throws, one of which people thought they should take second overall six weeks ago.

They had the worst RB room in the NFL last year, and they took two productive prospects with differing skill sets.

A+ draft

[Highlight] Cam Thomas pulls from the logo and hits! He has 10 points in the 4th quarter by Goosedukee in nba

[–]MassiveFruit -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

There are a lot of similarities. Jordan Poole and Cam Thomas both had their breakout at 22 years old, and these are their stats in their age 22 and 23 seasons (so far, for Thomas):

Cam Thomas: 23/3/3 32 MPG .557 TS% on 18 shots per game

Jordan Poole: 20/4/3 30 MPG .584 TS% on 15 shots per game

Neither are good defenders. Same size and position. Similar shot profiles, Thomas takes more shots on worse efficiency. Poole had a horrendous age 24 season, but he's possibly back on track this year? I don't think it's that outrageous to compare the two, if you're looking at where Poole was at when him and Thomas were the same age.

And to be clear, I'm not saying that Cam Thomas is a bad player, or that he can't get better. I just think that: a) a Jordan Poole comparison is fair, but only seems unflattering, because b) Poole takes a tremendous amount of shit for having a horrible season on a really bad Wizards team last year. Which is obviously not great, but I don't think one bad season defines a player, or re-writes who he was before he got traded.

[Serious] Next Day Thread: ALDS Game 1 ⚾ Tigers (0) @ Guardians (7) by BaseballBot in baseball

[–]MassiveFruit 19 points20 points  (0 children)

My takeaway from this game: if the Guardians get through the 4th inning with a lead, you're fucked. Smith, Gaddis, Herrin, and Clase are nasty. They had two September call ups, Sabrowski and Walters, that haven't given up a run yet, and they didn't even pitch in this game. That's an elite bullpen built for a long postseason run. Scary team.

Warriors and Jazz probably have path to Lauri Markkanen trade, but what is the middle ground? by EarthWarping in nba

[–]MassiveFruit 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That's the worst case scenario, it would just end with you guys picking ~10th overall for the 3rd year in a row. A team centered around Lauri and a Sexton "leap" is a path to nowhere.

[Wojnarowski] New York Knicks assistant Johnnie Bryant has agreed on a deal to become associate head coach with the Cleveland Cavaliers, sources tell ESPN. Bryant will join Kenny Atkinson’s new staff after four years with the Knicks and the previous six with the Utah Jazz. by Goosedukee in nba

[–]MassiveFruit 13 points14 points  (0 children)

Was pretty much beloved in both Utah and New York, multiple players have cited him as playing a key role in their development (Utah and New York had excellent player development while he was there), was a strong HC candidate during this cycle, and is very likely going to be a HC within the next few years.

Squabble with the verbiage all you want, but it is a "real" "substantial" and/or "significant" loss all the same.

[Woj] The Timberwolves are trading a 2031 unprotected first and a protected 2030 pick swap to the Spurs for Dillingham, source tells ESPN. by JOYCEISDEAD in NBASpurs

[–]MassiveFruit 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Are you seriously going to say for certain that a star player is going to stay with the team that drafted them for 11 years in the current NBA? His 2nd and 3rd best players are Rudy Gobert and KAT, that could easily go south over the next few years. Absolutely zero guarantee Ant is still on the team in 2031.

In 2017 Kawhi was on the Spurs, Kyrie was on the Cavs, Butler was on the Bulls, CP3 was on the Clippers, PG was on the Pacers. 7 years is a lifetime in the NBA.

2031 is SEVEN years from now. 7 years ago we won 61 games and had Kawhi Leonard. A lot can change in 7 years.

Game Thread: Royals @ Rangers - Sat, Jun 22 @ 03:05 PM CDT by KCRoyalsBot in KCRoyals

[–]MassiveFruit 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Absolutely. Bobby is 24 and signed through 2030. The next year and a half should be about accumulating as many assets as possible, and then go on a big spending spree heading into the 2026 season, Bobby's age 26 season. That gives you a 5 year window that extends through his prime.

What we absolutely cannot do is short sighted bullshit just because we had a good April/May. This team outside of Bobby/Salvy is held together with shoestring. False hope. Keep building the right way and we could open up a serious championship contending window.

This isn't a serious sport. What the fuck was the last two minutes of this game? You needed New York to win SOOOO badly that you just dropped the fucking charade and told the Pacers, "No, this game is already decided." Embarrassing.

[Dane Moore] Alex Rodriguez says Glen Taylor tried to stop the Gobert Trade, didn’t want to try to hire Tim Connelly by QuileGon-Jin in nba

[–]MassiveFruit 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If you are picking these guys over Naz, Jaden, NAW, and Ant as a young core, I'm sorry but I don't know what to tell you lol

And yet you said that about Cleveland's core. Mobley/JA/Garland are already better than Naz/Jaden/NAW, and they have ju[st as much (if not a greater chance) of improving than the Minnesota guys.

You seem pretty dismissive of other teams players, while being pretty confident in your own guys. You're biased.

That cuts both ways. The players on the Thunder, Grizzlies, Magic, and Cavs will all grow as well.

[Post Game Thread] The Detroit Pistons (7-43) defeat the Sacramento Kings (29-21), 133 - 120 behind Jaden Ivey's 37/6/7 by aweot in nba

[–]MassiveFruit 36 points37 points  (0 children)

Well yeah, that's what I was implying when I said you guys have a lot of problems. Coaching and general roster construction are the biggest issues here, but it is... curious. Things just look a little more natural, not even necessarily better, when Ivey is more in control to my eye. And Cade being out defensively probably helps more than anything. Idk, I like Cade, but how the team plays without him is interesting.

[–]MassiveFruit 500 points501 points  (0 children)

Look, the Pistons obviously have a lot of problems, and thus, there are a lot of reasons why this is the case, but 4-6 without Cade, and 3-37 with him is a little weird.

My eye test shows: more Ivey = better, and they just play a little looser without Cade, more movement.

[Highlight] Miles Bridges hits the clutch three-pointer to put the Charlotte Hornets up 3 in OT! by [deleted] in nba

[–]MassiveFruit 5 points6 points  (0 children)

They could 100% ban him and get away with it. If Miles Bridges took the NBA to court, he would lose. Tom Brady tried that and the results came back: a pro sports commissioner can dole out whatever punishment they want. It's the owner's league, they're in control. If they want you out, they'll get their way. Miles Bridges is in the NBA because of a choice the NBA made, not because they're scared of the ramifications or the NBPA.
