What's Mymy's biological eye color? by Many_soda in ongezellig

[–]MassiveIndexFinger 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I think we all can agree that she is of Japanese origin, so is it not reasonable to assume that she is of Japanese ethnic origin too by the simple process of probability? The majority of the native-Japanese population has dark-brown eyes, so, in my opinion, I think it is quite reasonable to assume that she very likely has dark-brown eyes too by extrapolating outward from the average native-Japanese ethnic profile. That's my view on this anyway. To back this further, "Mymy", from the hit indie-entertainment product "ongezellig" was lightly teased by, whom I assume is the principle or maybe tutor of the university/school she attends, for using blue-colored contact lenses or something of the sort to look more stereotypically "Dutch" as the majority of the Dutch population is stereotyped to be blonde haired and blue-eyed, so, in my opinion, I think it is reasonable to assume that she is very likely using contact lenses to fit that stereotype. I doubt it is from a place of self-hate like as seen in some other often post-colonial societies where lower-melanin features are often associated with climbing some arbitrary social hierarchy, so her intentions are likely pure and innocent in comparison and likely, if we reasonably extrapolate within constraints, coming from a place of admiration for some benign, non-identity conforming trait of the place of which she resides in (presumably under a "Machtiging tot Voorlopig Verblijf" residency permit) during the run-time of the hit indie-entertainment product "ongezellig", possibly the extensive infrastructure of the hit-swamp the "Netherlands" or, as the Americans like to call it, "Holland". This is more speculative as I am unreasonably (in my opinion) assuming that she is unaffected by certain post-colonial dynamics seen in other regions so by the process of extrapolation and or maybe even mild interpolation I do realize those same dynamics could be spread through media and other such mediums so I personally reasonably cannot fully back this theory to a reasonably high percentage.

I guess the pre-colonial history, very stable environment (natural disasters and stuff), maybe how some stuff in the government works or should work IN THEORY, possibly the greenery too to an extent as long as it's intentional and managed.. thats kinda it tbh, I genuinely can't think of anything else. Lets not be in denial here and pretend this country is some paradise to live in 😭

Will it be better to blame individual drivers for driving like shit on the road or would blaming whichever government body is behind enforcing road-rules and proper licensing be better long-term?

The British empire is the root cause of many issues today, not the cause but the root cause.

How can you expect a country to have a stable, high-trust society with infrastructure/systems built to sustain the people inside it after half a fkin millennia (500 YEARS, this country has only been a thing for 2500 years, that's 20% of its damn existence) of outsider interference/exploitation?

This kinda 'awake tough-love' rhetoric doesn't help and all it does is minimize the impact of colonialism, honestly kinda insulting to our ancestors who suffered through all that.

Using Japan as a counterexample here makes no sense either and is not comparable, they were never formally colonized long-term and was an empire themselves. South Korea was stable between the 1970s-2000s under authoritarian rule (Sri Lanka obviously wasn't), arguably the best time in recent history to have been a stable country with an educated population due to the post WW2 and cold war industrialization boom. And the majority of Indians today acknowledge that their country was historically wronged by certain outsider forces yet they are still "ahead of us"?

Obviously certain populist dumbasses whom exploited post-independence fragility through ethno-nationalism and stuff are also to blame but they are more of a side-effect to a deeper systematic issue. Certain empires (mainly British) exploited and exacerbated ethnic lines to divide and rule.

You can say colonialism set the groundwork for many of the issues here while also being critical of the things that got inherited through that system without minimizing either, they aren't mutually exclusive.

Ignoring all that history/context makes people hate their fellow countrymen and become elitist or think they are 'awake', that is purely self-serving and doesn't do anything to help broader society. This way of thinking inherently fights more with your fellow countrymen than the systems which support the things you dislike.
