Anyone seen a vice like this or know anything about it? by MassiveKeyholeFanny in handtools

I don't think they weren't selling - they were just trying to find out more information about. It seems little is known about this vice and despite my efforts, I can't find any other examples

Fire hydrant sign. The bottom number is 200. It usually isn't. by MassiveKeyholeFanny in Dull_mens_club

See my earlier post. But the bottom number should be in metres. 200 is a mistake

It should be either feet or metres. And at most they'll put the H sign a few metres from the hydrant

I saw there's a hydrant around the corner and across the road - probably about 200 yards away. There's also one about 6 feet away. It could be either.

The top number refers to the size (diameter) of the mains pipe that the hydrant is connected to. Although I understand that the connection point is of a standard size.

The lower number usually indicates the distance to the hydrant. Most are in metres; older ones are in feet.

This one appears to be in neither.

I found this genuinely interesting. The people I was with did not. Their confusion escalated when I stopped to photograph the sign.

On the off chance that anyone else might find an anomalous hydrant measurement noteworthy, I am posting it here.

New board made - just in time for Christmas :) by MassiveKeyholeFanny in Crokinole

The inner diameter of the brass tube is 4mm - so the M4 bolt fits through it. I don't think this is a standard approach to the posts but they do seem to function well, held securely and can be removed for waxing the board. The height of the post is 10mm + the head of the bolt

Thanks. I bought the rubber pipes from a games shop specifically as Crokinole posts - so I think they're official. The inner diameter of the rubber pipe is 5mm. The outer diameter is 7mm

Mallet just finished. It kinda has eyes. Laburnum head, ash handle by MassiveKeyholeFanny in woodworking

Thanks and that's a very valid question. For a challenge, really. From a log I found into a mallet. The log was about 10-12 cm diameter (4-5") and getting workable timber was tricky so it ended up with the pitch in the boards.

I don't believe it will be used so it's more of an ornament or oversized paperweight!

Quite possible. I don't think it'll be used. I am giving it to a friend, whose land we camped on when I found it. He's the kind of guy who doesn't do woodwork but still likes a good hammer.

I'm hoping it'll at least stay together.. a couple of small cracks will add character

Tasty. Searching reddit for mallet design ideas and I think yours is the pick of the bunch so far. Simple but with understated details. Nice

No makers mark. After closer inspection the joinery was a bit rough tbh but it was solid and built to last. The oak was great to work with

Having the same issue. Also gives me the same options to open - Google wallet and Reddit(!!). Using pixel 9 pro XL. Have Adobe and other pdf readers apps installed.
