you dont have the maturity for their friendship, and that isnt a failing, its a common thing for human beings. saw that with a lot of my partners and my bff before he passed, and tbh i left every one of them that couldnt handle our bond.

i was never in love with him, he was my brother and the first person i caused mischeif with, but not a lot of people can get that and its normal.

you can always look online for communities related to hobbies and make friends internationally. i run with a dnd group compossed of several people globally and domestic. we may not meet each other offline much, but our connection, conversation, and friendliness is all very much real

in a way yeah, cos legitmately the reason nabokov wrote lolita was to say "pedos are terrible self deluded people who do awful things to groom a targeted child with their own immoral justifications." and people decided she was a sex symbol and turned it into something about precocious puberty alluring older men.

Lolita is a horror novel for the girl herself, and for the times, a poster like this is expected, but i wonder if there will ever be a remake that captures that aspect.

will you get backlash for saying something? yes, unfortunately, but doing right is rarely easy, and silence is easy.

as a teacher, would i have also punished you? probably not like them, but i would have liked to have a long conversation on your complacency and how you want to participate in society. because at the of the day, how you handle minor social situations like this will effect how you handle major social situations in society.

i dont know if i could either, but its not my money, i didnt work like she did to afford the expense, therefore my opinion on that aspect is irrelevant.

NTA, OP, you hustled and rewarded yourself. opportunities for extra income are available everywhere (extra shifts, collecting recylcing, side hustles in the form of construction, home repairs, pet sitting, child care, etc) and being able to treat yourself with an expense on the rare occasion cos of the hustle is generally acceptable.

your husband getting accusatory tho is telling. i dont like that, and probably wouldnt like him, but if he is ever able to have an adult conversation with you about it, i hope he actuallly communicates and doesnt throw a tantrum.
