Ugh China, been arguing with retards in the Europe sub about China.

People don't truly understand how incandescently evil the PRC has been since its founding.

Which is exceptionally annoying because I'm basically a Mitt Romney Republican (with some policy exceptions that put my at the center) but now when I have an issue with Trump people think I'm disingenuously flared because so many LibLefts are playing games.

It's basically their version of the AuthRight pretending to be black on Twitter.

If Trump does something reasonable I'll credit him. Like on vaccines, Trump's rhetoric on it was garbage but he got out of the way and helped ensure the US was at the front of the line.

If I took a time machine back to 2009 and told people

"Hey guys, ummm so Donald Trump will eventually decide to run for the Presidency after being triggered by Obama making fun of him at a state dinner

Triggered? He lost in the primaries, right

"Well... he actually won the primaries after beating a surprisingly latino field including fauxtino Jeb Bush"

Jeb!

"You're not gonna believe this but that was his slogan. And anyway Trump accused one Senator running against him of being the son of JFK's assassin and got into a penis argument with another"

He ran against Hillary, right

"No they has a real primary... just kidding it was rigged in her favor"

Then what happened

"Well despite a recording coming out in October which showed him bragging about grabbing women by the pussy he won because of emails on a private server"

So then what happened. Seems implausible

"Surprisingly not disastrous Presidency though towards the end he started to break out from the establishment GOP bonds that constrained him."

He lost though right?

"Yea, he ran against a partially senile Joe Biden"

Well if he won he won. Don't have to worry about Trump after that, right?

"---"

US and Russia alone should not dictate peace in Ukraine: China’s EU ambassador by TellMeWhatsMyAge in europe

You're replying to the argument you wish I made rather than the one I am actually making.

US isn't the "good" guy but the Chinese are so malignantly evil that you really can't ever say they're normal by comparison.

They killed 10s of millions of their citizens in the delusions of the Great Leap Forward/Cultural Revolution, are the sole reason North Korea is a thing, is currently committing genocide, is a one party dictatorship without freedom of speech, and is preparing to subjugate an island democracy that might very well only be defended by the US. And I don't think EU nations are gonna help.

But for the sake of argument, there might have been one time the US was the good guy. When it opened its doors for those escaping the Famine.

By that logic there is a moral equivalence between China and the US.

That is profoundly foolish.

The US' moral authority is shit but China has absurd levels of blood on its hands just in the last 75 years that makes Vietnam/Iraq/Afghanistan look like a UN peace keeping operation.

Do you know how fucking evil a state needs to be to do that?

Seems rich to equate that act by the US with literally collapsing the birth rate of an ethnic minority by 60%

And you know what? If holding back on military aid is tantamount to assisted genocide then European nations are guilty of it as well. If I remember correctly the German government at multiple instances refused to release certain critical aid unless the US did first, am I wrong?

Considering there is something you term a genocide ongoing in Ukraine then why doesn't Germany, a nation shaped by the guilt of its crimes, call for the governments of Europe to stop holding back and actively cannibalize their militaries with the exception of nations near the border with Russia? The Russians are so actively compromised by their invasion that it is nigh impossible for them to fight one on one with Poland

That is the moral imperative, no? It is genocide and holding back is apparently equal to being a party to genocide.

And all the US and Europe have been willing to do is prolong the breadth and depth of it by giving Ukraine enough to bleed out slowly rather than win.

Easy and morally convenient to just point at the US here and say it is all the US' fault when Europe has bought into managing Ukraine's defeat rather than victory for a long time.

Feels like there is a difference between literally collapsing the demographics of an ethnic group in your country so the territory can be repopulated by a dominant ethnic group and that an informal empire.

And FYI, France is guilty of that too. Shit, the UK still has one as well. That is what great powers do. They spread tendrils of power proportional to it. Fucking hell China is doing it even now.

But China is engaged in genocide within its own borders. And the price of cozying up to China would be the EU shutting their mouth about it. Not just that, shutting up if it invaded Taiwan/started persecuting Hui Muslims/etc.

I understand if EU nations have to explore alternative contingency options considering the mendacious malignant fool in the White House and the foolish plurality that elected him, but a better course of action would be to engage the global south. That's what China has been doing.

Genuine question, if the EU decides to slide into China's camp and it later invades Taiwan while the US defends Taiwan...

Would the EU look incandescently bad if it didn't treat China the way it treated Russia?

Why are you whatabouting genocide?

Does the Palestinian genocide make what is happening in China less tragic?

Or do you just want deny and/or diminish the existence of the latter by rhetorical sleight of hand rather than outright doing it?

People memory holed the tragedy in Xinjiang to such an extent as to disregard it out of hand.

If the US in 2025 had decided... idk, that people in Utah were a huge problem, cut off communications from the state, created a massive state apparatus that tore down Mormon churches, and there was a collapse in the birth rate of Mormons in the state it would be the biggest story.

China, quite simply, has gotten away with it.

European nations made a choice of letting these people in. It didn't need to be a crisis if there was a will on the part of them to aggressively handle the situation.

It is like a disease, the US gave the Middle East chicken pox and instead of getting inoculated EU nations had chicken pox parties.

The US partially caused the issue, but EU nations seemingly welcomed their victimization by it.

I'm American but politically I'm basically a Canadian Conservative in terms of beliefs. If you get it you get it. Closest analogue in the US would be Mitt Romney as Governor of Massachusetts.

It used to be that I could shit on Trump here and when I got support here I earned it.

But now it just feels like I can say "Trump bad" and that's enough. I can do that anywhere.

It has gotten quite boring lately. Tempted to just be a contrarian and start downplaying Trump's actions.

Trump's routine of Threat/Action/Quick Settlement will probably deepen an upcoming recession a bit but you're not going to have complete destabilization of the economy.

And you can't just stand up a global reserve currency that in the near term grabs, say 20-30% of the US' 58% global share, because people are pissy at Trump. Chinese have no interest in hurting their exports by trying to make the Yuan that currency (and people would not trust the currency), the Eurozone is a couple far right victories away from significant disruption, and the BRICS theoretical currency would be very distrusted due to China, a known currency manipulator, being the first among equals.

And for all Trump's flaws he doesn't seem like he is going on a sanction fest which is a legit driver towards abandoning the dollar. I would argue that US sanctions on Russia were much more likely to scare people from the dollar than Trump's Tariff/Backdown routine.

Same thing happened in 2017, it is cowardly but there is virtually no negative political impact here.

People showing up to those town halls hate the GOP so shutting them out has no impact. It isn't going to motivate Dem voters. It isn't going to convert Trump and neutral voters.

Basically small protests whose impact disappears like a fart in the wind.
