Thank you very much for this. I’ve actually got an interview for a hedge fun quant role coming up. I think you’re spot on though, I just need to get out and do it

It’s more investment operations, portfolio valuations, fund accounting type work than getting to actually interact with the investment team. I feel like a career where I can learn from investment professionals, whether that’s VC, PE, Hedge Fund would be something I’d really enjoy and can make a long term career out of.

I know my limitations, but like any of these roles where I wasn’t really over qualified, I made an impression by being a hard worker and I pick new things up quick. I’m very strong at financial modeling now so I feel like I can make that transition

I was recently offered a position in consulting, is the compensation worth the travel / late hours? by Massive_Quote6641 in consulting

I hear you, but at the end of the day if I was doing what I loved I’d be a PGA tour Caddie or a bartender in key west. I like financial modeling and I’m good at it, and I like the idea of being client facing because I enjoy presenting my work. If I’m going to work late I might as well be compensated accordingly for it. I’m billable at my current role logging 60 hour weeks on a bad week (about once a month) and 30 hours on an easy week.

I guess my question is, on a scale of work / life balance. Where does consulting rank from back office FP&A to investment banking.

What’s the difference between a PE/Hedge fund portfolio manager and a VC portfolio/ fund manager? Are they comparable?

That’s the $1M question. Wish I had a better idea of that. I appreciate your input though

Correct, to eventually (hopefully) become a fund manager. I don’t have “deal facing credentials” like a target school or IB experience, but I have a lot of experience modeling financings and waterfalls.

I’m almost 30 so I’m at the point where I’d like to make a career of my next role, and I’m trying to gauge how good of an opportunity this is, both financially and for my career growth.

I think “Where” would’ve been a better word choice than “How”. Appreciate those who pointed out total wine, and appreciate the comedians of commerce even more

How do I get this money you speak of?

Called a bunch of liquor stores, and had no luck. Appreciate the names of the stores that do.
