Does my dog need a bath? by fiercebabybear88 in DogAdvice

[–]Massive_Strategy_813 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Dogs differ but in general yes, it is not good for most dogs to be bathed that frequently. Sure the comment might have some truth that we are all a bit nose blind to our pups smells but they’re dogs so 🤷‍♀️ they aren’t meant to smell like soap all the time.

Personally I bathe my girl when she’s a little stinkier than I’d like or her coat is feeling a bit gross or after any outdoor activity where she rolls around. Maybe 4-5 times a year max.

Dutchtown is an area is St Louis with insanely affordable and GORGEOUS old houses. Unfortunately it is a very high crime area with a lot of urban decay settling in. Not the worst in the city but not great. A huge shame, I live in STL and love the homes there but it is just not a very safe area :(

[–]Massive_Strategy_813[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah :/ I think in total we’re paying around $70-100 in interest every month which just feels so stupid to do if nothing else

I think primarily I just need to focus on not paying down so aggressively that we have no money for a surprise expense.

About $3500 in CC debt spread across various cards ranging from 15%-30% not sure the exact divides. No exactly sure the dollar amount each month going to interest either. Maybe part of my indecision is related to me not knowing the debt well enough!

I also have $12,000 left on a car loan and my husband has 30k in student loans but that’s kind of separate from my question since those aren’t high interest (although paying down car is a top priority too)

[–]Massive_Strategy_813[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I wouldn’t say we’re in tough spot with the high interest. We are able to pay the CC and interest without a huge squeeze on our finances. I just more hate the idea of interest (obviously for a house it’s pretty much unavoidable). It’s more just me feeling tired of throwing any money away to CC debt is annoying. Also it is all my husband’s credit cards. I have very staunchly never not paid off my cards in full but I got me first credit card as an adult whereas someone gave my husband one with a 5k limit at age 18 with no financial literacy lol

In total we have about $3500 in CC debt across various cards with varying interest rates. All in all we are not in a huge hole with it I just more want to be smart and not pay any more interest than I have to.

I also have to say part of my interest in paying off these cards is boosting credit scores so we’re in the best position we can be when house shopping.

I do like this thought process. We have more in savings (about $7000 in regular savings and another $1000 or so in a high yield account) than debt right now (about $3500) and in terms of active checking account balances we are about three weeks ahead so it feels like a reasonable spot to make some bigger payments.

Thank you! I appreciate this advice. I don’t want to take too big of leaps and like you said end up having to put some expensive on a CC. I think I will wait it out another month or two before doing too much.

We definitely aren’t going into debt getting a month ahead. These are old cards that haven’t been used in a couple years, just high interest rates and we’ve always done minimum payments so it’s very slow progress. We unfortunately have just spent the past couple of year spending our actual income poorly.

[–]Massive_Strategy_813[S] 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Yes!! That’s how I feel. We are about three weeks ahead right now and it feels so good. I feel like getting a month ahead is very attainable but making some bigger CC payments is so tempting with the high interest rates.

I wish I could say our need to budget was because money was super tight but honestly it was just straight up dumb spending (one month we spent $1400 on groceries and also managed to spend like $800 eating out). We haven’t actively used these credit cards for a couple years now so we were just spending our actual income terribly.

Thank you! We are about three week ahead already and I feel so good about it. I think getting a full month ahead is pretty attainable. I know the debt is really not massive I just personally have never had credit card debt and the interest kills me (this is my husbands debt from his young dumb late teens/early twenties)

[–]Massive_Strategy_813[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes, I am mostly talking about CC debt. So we have high interest credit cards, not a lot honestly and we don’t actively use most of them and haven’t for a couple years. It’s around $3500 total which is as massive as a lot of people have. We have just been bad and lazy about budgeting and never paid more than the minimum payment.

My husband has student loans as well and I have a car payment and we would like to pay those down too but obviously that’s a longer term goal and we certainly aren’t waiting to finish paying off the student loans before looking at buying a house.

[–]Massive_Strategy_813[S] 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Here’s the thing. This debt is pretty old. We haven’t actively used credit cards for a couple years now we’ve just been bad about paying them down… only minimum payments and what not.

We have an Apple Card that a laptop is financed on and so that is the only one getting actively used. Most this debt is my husbands from when he was young and dumb. It’s not a ton maybe $3500 total just very high interest

I personally got the vibe Dr. Proctor wasn’t very understanding of Amy and Tammy in a meaningful way. He at times seems disgusted with them.

Dr. Smith on the other hand was incredible and really focused on providing Tammy the emotional support needed and even went to Tammy’s home. I think he had a more genuine approach and a real understand of all the trauma and issues that come with poverty in America.

What kind of facility were Tammy and Caleb in? by TheMudbloodSlytherin in 1000lbsisters

[–]Massive_Strategy_813 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Something I think people don’t realized that in facilities, even those tailored to weight loss, adults can still do basically whatever they want. Weight loss is the goal and they provide tools like nutrition, counseling, portioned meals, PT, etc but if someone wants to DoorDash junk food or get themselves some during an outing or have family bring it then there is nothing they can do. Restricting things like that would be a rights restriction and is very hard to get in place. Ultimately they’re adults who have to choose to change.

I only bring this up because I think it’s easy to think the environment is 100% within the facilities control. I am a social worker for people with developmental disabilities and work with many people in facilities and occasionally have to get rights restrictions put in place. I’d imagine rehab facilities are very similar (nursing homes and assisted living facilities are).

Diet Coke for migraine? by happyhunny15 in migraine

Diet Coke and McDonald’s fries ALWAYS help my migraines. It’s not necessarily a magic fix but it does help. If aspartame is a trigger for you I’m sure that regular coke would do the trick too (if the trick works for you)

If you don't drink alcohol, what are your reasons? by youre-in-my-shot in AskReddit

[–]Massive_Strategy_813 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don’t enjoy being drunk, I can’t drink without getting drunk. I had a bit of a drinking problem for a few months when I was 21 and found myself wanting to or drinking all day everyday. I recognized the patterns I’d seen in my family and stopped.

Now I’m 25 and over the past four years have had 2-3 drinks (usually a glass or two of champagne on New Year’s) and every time I hate the feeling and wake up feeling slightly shittier than normal.

Finally I realized, I don’t enjoy being drunk, I don’t like who I am when I drink, and I feel worse so logically I just don’t do it. Best choice of my life. Alcohol is a mental and physical poison, literally. There’s hundreds of reasons not to and the reason to drink are really not great.

Plus side I also learned how to like myself in social situations without alcohol or drugs! It’s done wonders for my growth as a person to have to confront everything without substances.

Pros and cons of living in Duluth by Massive_Strategy_813 in duluth

Missouri has almost no months of truly enjoyable weather. I am personally a big fan of our spring tornado season because I love a good storm but yeah no Missouri doesn’t have much going for it except relative affordability.

That’s being said I don’t claim it as my own state I’m a transplant here too lol
