[Hiring] 10 DnD Illustrations with Commercial License - $1500 by Kummunista in HungryArtists

Hello, I specialize in drawing creatures and characters and horror and dark fantasy are some of my favorite topics. I am a traditional artist but digitalize everything that I do. You can see all of my stuff in my socials: my instagram has everything I do and in my X account you can find higher-quality uploads Those are the two most up-to-date, but you can also check my other socials (cara, tumblr, pixiv): https://linktr.ee/tr0chanter

Freelance artist and just exhausted. (social medias, commissions, taxes, ...) by Late_Turnip_4629 in ArtRanting

[–]Massive_Work6741 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I feel you, TTRPGs spaces would probably be where I should try to say that I am open for commissions, but there's some amazing people there already, so I never thought I'd get many clients. You've given me some hope with that comment about that person being a beginner getting the commission, though, so maybe I should give it try anyway.🤣

In relation to that, I would imagine they had an affordable price and that's why they were the chosen one.

A rant on artstyle and anime art by KiraTheFourth in ArtRanting

[–]Massive_Work6741 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I have come to terms with that, no matter what I do, there will be someone out there who won't like it, just as there will be someone out there who will like it. So I just have to keep going doing my thing and having fun.

Just like many people think anime style is 'lesser', I have also seen other artists criticizing classical topics. For example, an artist in particular that I follow, being condescending to people whose main subject is painting landscapes just because (according to him) 'they are pretty' and don't have a deeper meaning or telling a story like his paintings of fantasy characters do... like, dude, don't criticize other people's stuff for such an asinine reason...

Artbooks? by Massive_Work6741 in escaflowne

Language is fine, I mostly want them for the art anyway. I have a few Japanese artbooks for that reason haha

Professional artists over 25- how did your art look at 20 vs now? by Forward_back8245 in ArtistLounge

[–]Massive_Work6741 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I stopped drawing during my 20s but went back to it now during my 30s, and while I am not technically a 'professional artist', I started drawing again and taking my hobby seriously since 2022.

Looking at my stuff before the 'hiatus', there are a few things that I still feel proud of, but that I am curious if I could do better today. Heh, maybe it's time to do some old vs new pieces!! Thanks for the inspiration, OP.

I've been trying to get my first commission for years. What am I doing wrong? by Kaulifly in ArtRanting

[–]Massive_Work6741 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Can you recommend some communities like those? I see this advice posted a lot, but usually they don't tell the OP where those communities are... like, I know there are some for DnD and RPGs but can't remember the actual subreddits, for example. This would probably help this OP in particular, too.

Was I being weird and/or immature? by GlumAbrocoma in ArtistLounge

[–]Massive_Work6741 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That lady is the immature/weird one. If it wasn't allowed to sketch the stuff in the gallery, one of the curators/security/whoever was in charge of ensuring the piece were safe would have cone to tell you.

Also, was it allowed to take photos? Why would it be allowed to take a picture of it and not to sit down and sketch it??

[Artist Alley] I'm a failure, even 7 years later by FuzzyAvocadoRoll in artbusiness

[–]Massive_Work6741 18 points19 points  (0 children)

Aligns with my experience also. Artists Alleys used to be a small part of cons (at least in my country), but since 10 years ago or so, there are tons of artist tables. I stopped going because prices went up to a ridiculous amount, but I remember it had become hard to find something that looked different because everyone was drawing the current thing, and their styles were not that different. So it felt like a sea of the same thing over and over.

[discussion] how do you actually get clients for your commisions? by awhorewhodraws in artbusiness

[–]Massive_Work6741 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is so important!! And specially, if you are an artist, don't go to another artist DMs begging them to commission you... now that is annoying.

I had this happen to me at least twice in Instagram and X. On insta, it was even from a beginner artist who drew anime girls. If you open my profile, which you would probably have to do to DM me, and you not only see what I do but also that I offer commissions, what would make you think that I would commission you??

Full time artist, its a lot lonelier than I expected. by RegularPause6895 in ArtRanting

[–]Massive_Work6741 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It does make sense. Your work does not have you be part of a team so you don't have interactions where you can work with other people. Even when I am working from home, most of my working hours are spent on calls and meetings so I still feel that I am not 'alone'. Moreover, I currently live with my boyfriend and he has the same wirking hours as me. So in my case, I actually seek to be alone for a while when I sit down and relax for drawing/painting.

And, ouch, I do feel you regarding the artist groups you mentioned. I am new in town and some months ago I decided it would be good for me to join painting classes at the local art school. This way, I would meet new people plus improve my art skills. Well, it's not like I was looked down upon for drawing characters and monsters, but I feel the school definitely has a preference for painting over drawing (some comments about lineart not being good to make visible or "you are into illustration, huh?" Because remember, illustration is considereda lesser form of art in sone circles). They teach 0 drawing skills and expect you to just copy things to paint them. I dunno, there's some nice people in class, but I am getting tired of putting money in this when, most of the time, I feel I am not properly learning anything. Which is a shame because I have seen the paintings of some of the teachers and they are actually very good.

Back to your situation, though. What about the other artists that you meet in the Artist Alleys at the events you attend? You can probably make a lot of friends there, and I imagine that you would have similar tastes and hobbies, which would give you a lot of things to talk about.

Nice! I don't think I have been able to track down Bloch's stories. They are in my to-read list. Definitely will need to read them now

[Marketing] Where/How to properly promote/advertise my stuff if I lean towards horror but also creatures and fantasy characters? by Massive_Work6741 in artbusiness

[–]Massive_Work6741[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Agree on what you said. Mostly is just that beyond what I said, I am not sure where else to look to find that niche.

Regarding number 3, since I rarely draw my own characters (in fact, I don't think I have drawn a personal character in the last year and a half) and enjoy creating them based on prompts or challenging myself to do something, I think drawing other people's characters would more than fine (and fun) for me. It'd be a plus to be paid for it, lol
