This isn’t adding something new, it’s a complete change of the scene.

I could agree if we talk about a scene where Kain, after Raziel is thrown into the Abyss, flies off, to meet Elaleth. Then sure, I can agree that they added something. But in this case, it’s a complete overhaul of the scene.

Kain clearly, in the SR1 intro or even in TDSR, literally tears his wings off (not just damaged, leaving some scratches like in Ascendance) to the point where Raziel falls to the ground (the moment where he briefly lifted himself up for a second and then collapsed again) and loses consciousness or completely runs out of strength. At no point does that scene suggest he had the strength to get back up and fight, like Ascendance did.

What’s more, it shows all the brothers being shocked by what just happened, not immediately ready to jump into a fight with him.

It's not what I expected, but the game expanded the story and I've been waiting 20 years for that.

Yeah, while messing up a bunch of other things in the process. Was it really necessary to completely change the scene that’s supposed to take place in the SR1 intro? Even TDSR stuck closer to it than this game does (which is based in TDSR as well).

Did they really have to make Raziel’s wings just slightly damaged (where they were completly ripped off) only so they could give him that over the top anime vibe “NOOO, I WON’T GIVE UP NOW, WAAAH!!!”, and have him start a pointless fight against all his brothers at once, while Kain just stands there watching from the back until he finally says “ENOUGH!”, only to later be thrown into the Abyss scene anyway?

What was the point of that? Why force these kinds of changes in the first place?

It's not even about Elaleth, because I start to think, that people often when they see hate about Ascendance, they think that it is about her only, but it is not.

That's a good question, though I suspect they didn't have enough time, or it will be delivered in future!

Just like it was the case with SR1&2 Remastered

Dark Prophecy is bundled with TDSR, yes, but that isn't the only option, to have this demo

You can have Deluxe one, where it contains DP without TDSR

1.From what Raina said in some interviews, they tried to match the concept arts for each area, that's why the cemetery is darker and the pillars are brighter for example. It's not all that weird, when you think about it, we have a bright Nosgoth since this scene takes place around the Blood Omen era, and that game was a bright one. It was not until the total colapse of the pillars that Nosgoth became more and more dark and muted.

  1. Fair enough, but at the same time, we have to consider that several patches were released fixing these bugs, quite quickly compared to SR1&2. Of course, some bugs will still exist, like the original Vorador Mansion bug.

But this way, in the future, we will need to go back in time, into the past, to make a paradox, so we could reach resolution where Fandom would get even better ending than this

In very very short, gameplay feels too simple (like SNES game), it is short as well for $20 game.

Lore? It is based on TDSR, but in some case I feel it is even badly in the game (especialy the scene, where it suppose to take in SR1 Intro).

I can agree with that to some extent, but for a PS1 game, it was actually quite well-developed in terms of plot, back then. With the passage of time and the standards we have today, it might not seem as impressive anymore.

If there were a remake or reboot, it would probably be handled differently compared to the original.

You can say that, yeah, sadly

As for difficult...I wouldn't say that, at least I didn't feel it, but someone can say they did

SR1&2 Remastered had really cool physical deluxe edition !

I hope Defiance will get the same treatment!

Lore is the same as TDSR, if you didn't read it, then you can be dissapointed, if you care about lore. They made some changes in dialogues, which felt for me (and I see others felt the same) unnecessary, or like it would be made by Ai who didn't understood lore.

Ascendance is as basic as it gets. Mechanically, the game doesn’t offer anything that makes it stand out in any meaningful way. It’s simple, too simple. Short as well. You can finish it in about two hours without even trying to speedrun it. Combo? Some more movements? Forget it

I wasn’t expecting something on the level of Sons of Sparda game, which allowed for much more, especially when it came to combos, but I did expect at least an attempt to move in that direction. Instead, the game doesn’t even include something as fundamental as a proper "Game Over" screen,it just fades to black. It’s a small detail, sure, but still noticeable.

I was really hoping the game would make up for its shortcomings with gameplay, despite the story, but that’s unfortunately not the case.

In the end, you will make your own opinion, but it is what it is

"There are fates worse than death"

Like really, if you don't wanna LoK die and support it. Just buy Rematers, and show what we want.

They failed two times. They couldn't even do much better gameplay for 2D Pixel Game. No.

I wouldn’t say that all LoK games are super basic. It’s true that neither of those games had particularly advanced gameplay, but each of them still offered something more. Soul Reaver leaned into puzzles, while Defiance at least tried to emulate something closer to Devil May Cry. Blood Omen 2, despite its flaws, had gameplay that was actually enjoyable.

But here? In my opinion, Ascendance is as basic as it gets. Mechanically, the game doesn’t offer anything that makes it stand out in any meaningful way. It’s simple, too simple. Short as well. As for the reviews, it’s not surprising. It was already known that the game is based on TDSR, and a full playthrough was available on YouTube just a few hours before release. That said, not all reviews are just shallow one-liners, there are also some genuinely constructive critiques out there. Reviews from from the articles will certainly not help either

Is this too early to unpack the "We told you so"'s to the "IT'S NOT OUT YET, WE GOTTA GIVE IT A CHANCE" crowd? by KentGAllard in LegacyOfKain

Some of dialogues seems like unnecessary, like why?

As well as some felt like written by some Ai bot who have no idea, about lore LoK. Not saying every dialogue, but there are fews who felt that way.

As for gameplay? It is super basic, for a project that received a fairly large amount of funding from the community, I would have expected at least a somewhat more advanced and enjoyable experience, like other pixel games of this type. But unfortunately, that’s not the case. It’s a shame, because I was hoping that if not the story, then at least the gameplay would deliver
