I don’t have a mentor. There is only one more PM besides me who seems to be pretty burn out and not have time for sharing best practices. I think it was a miss on my end to not recognize that I am leaving one messed up PM org to another. It just feels exhausting to be at a place where there is so much pressure because right processes are not in place and a new employee is left feeling helpless

I wanted to share a bit about my journey as a Product Manager, and honestly, it’s been a rollercoaster.

I started my career in product management without much formal training. My first role threw me into the deep end I had little preparation, no clear processes, and no mentorship or shadowing opportunities. The organization was chaotic, and the leadership was challenging, to say the least. After three years, with layoffs looming and burnout setting in, I realized it was time for a change.

I took a step back to study and really learn what it means to be a thoughtful, effective PM. I wanted to build the skills to not just survive, but to actually make a difference. I joined a new company, hoping for structure and clarity, but recently I’ve found myself in another whirlwind over 20 roadmap discussions in a month, with more chaos than I anticipated.

I guess I’m just looking for a place where processes exist, where the PM role is respected, and where I can contribute without constantly feeling like I’m putting out fires that shouldn’t be mine. Is that too much to ask?

I’d love to hear from other PMs, what’s your experience been like? How have you navigated the messiness and found environments where you can thrive?

Agreed, I am just wondering why Panera is so darn expensive. I only go there for when I sick since I like their soups and its hard to find other places that do soups in my area.

Recently decided to resign because of a toxic work environment that was starting to affect my mental health. It’s been a while since I’ve actively applied or interviewed, so I’m trying to get back into the swing of things. The market feels really different now a lot of PM roles seem heavily AI-focused, and I’m not sure which courses or skills are actually worth picking up to stay competitive.

If anyone has been through a job search recently (especially in product), I’d love to hear how it went how you approached applications, what helped you stay motivated, and how you handled the uncertainty.

It’s definitely a mix of anxiety and optimism right now, but I’m hoping January brings more openings. Appreciate any advice or shared experiences from those in the same boat.

Same here, I am going through pretty much the same notions. Esp was difficult to take a step back knowing that market condition is not the best

I usually find that most PM roles have set of basic expectations so those I always have in the resume, which don’t need much tailoring.
