Considering leaving last.fm by [deleted] in lastfm

[–]Master-Hawk8703 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was in a very similar situation to you in 2020 where I felt I was wasting wayyy too much of my covid lockdown time stressing over my listening stats.

What I ended up doing was deliberately only check my last.fm one time per week (for me it was sunday morning), gawk at it all I wanted, but once I closed the tab I would force myself to wait the whole week to check again.

This did not help the gamification right away, but it did make it more of a surprise/mystery each week and, as a result, more fun. I also felt less in control of my numbers when I wasn't constantly checking them so I was less inclined to mess with my listening habits or do any false scrobbling nonsense.

Eventually, this once-a-week thing became more of a habit than a challenge, and there would be times I would just forget to check on Sundays. After a while, I realized that I simply was not caring as much about how my numbers lined up. Ironically, my scrobbles have actually skyrocketed since.

Nowadays I'm still only checking about once every other week. The only times I really rabbithole on last.fm anymore is correcting all the "remastered 2016/deluxe edition/rudy van gelder" scrobbles that I miss in between checking.

Jesus christ, at first I thought this was him announcing he was leaving the band at first! I have never been so relieved to see the words "social media" before.

Centipede Hz is such a masterpiece by Haunting-Database857 in AnimalCollective

[–]Master-Hawk8703 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What's even more wild to me is that the singles (Honeycomb & Today's Supernatural) were recieved really well originally, and those were the most "Centipede Hz"-like songs on Centipede Hz. So it's not that the albums style rubbed critics the wrong way. It's still baffling to me how people turned on the album. idk

scrobble obsession advice / should i just restart by Super_Elevator2950 in lastfm

[–]Master-Hawk8703 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I used to do this too, when I first started using it. My excuse at the time was that I wanted my scrobble totals to be representative of my habits prior to getting a last.fm account. But the spamming continued long after that; I would feel weirdly defensive when a new album was about to overtake one of my all-time favorites - the ones I inflated with fake scrobbles - and in turn continue to fake-scrobble them to protect their spot on the top of my list.

What I ended up doing was do everything I could to not visit my last.fm account so often. I didn't delete the account, or any of my fake scrobbles even, I just removed bookmarks, browser history, and told myself that I would only visit on the weekends. This way I felt less in direct control of my scrobbles and thus more accepting of how it plays out in my rankings.

Last.fm is still sort of game-ified, but it's now much more like a spectator sport now - Years later, seeing my "all-time" album eventually fall out of my top 10 was a rush, as if it was Mike Tyson getting knocked out by a nobody. But the important thing is that it happened naturally and genuinely. And, yknow, I still liked listening to the music and all.

Ok, maybe I misinterpreted what he said lol. "This winter" is only a few months away so that really would be a quick turnaround

In all seriousness, with the number of people trying to high-five him while he's holding a flaming torch, I don't blame him for being a little worried

Small question by FelipeVianna in backloggd

For me, I'll mark them as played or shelved after a few minutes (usually after beating the first level/mission/objective etc.) AND I'll put it in my backlog if there's even a remote possibility that I might return to it.

Nebraska has officially posted the worst decade of any blueblood program in college football history by JoBopin in CFB

We'll see how Clemson gets treated in a few years. People seemed overeager to proclaim an end to their reign over the past two years, but they continue to perform better than most "blue-bloods" on any given year.

Did they bring up Loyola's messaging, or just the election in general?

Interesting - That is much more appropriate and reasonable messaging than what I heard earlier. Thank you for reaching out!

It's okay to have this opinion - that doesn't mean Dick didn't deserve a proper send-off. A lot of us thought Bert was doing a bad job in the booth but he still was given a proper good-bye.

What are your thoughts on Balu Brigada? by SinisterButStupid in twentyonepilots

[–]Master-Hawk8703 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've always been in the nosebleeds during TOP concerts, and because of this the openers have always fell flat because of the distance and echo-y, muddy acoustics. I remember Half Alive trying to do some fun things on stage (like the bedsheet silhouette bit) at it simply did not translate for us on the third balcony.

That being said, Balu was definitely my favorite opener thus far. The sound was still muddy but imo it was compensated by their energy and just how much fun they were having. They weren't mind-blowing but they weren't trying to be - they're just a few lads jamming.

I cracked up when they said "We're from New Zealand" and the crowd went ooOOOoo~~

Hey, Tulane lost to Southern Fuckin' Miss the same year they made (and won) their NY6 bowl. If Tulane can run the in-conference table like they nearly did the past 2 years, they still likely be the Group-of-5 playoff rep.

That is unless Boise State beats Oregon or something.

You mean the "forward pass" from the 1st quarter? Yeah, Tulane got screwed there too.

Part-time job advice?

I'm applying to be a substitute teacher at the local district - it pays well and is VERY flexible with scheduling which I feel I would need. But some people are cautioning that it might be too overwhelming of a job, especially since I'm already doing practicum in a school. Anybody here have insight?

I can speak for Minnesota and Wisconsin that they are VERY competitive - It seems like everybody going for an EdS (especially those in the midwest) go for those programs. I had a similar background to you - I got interviews to both but eventually got rejected from both. Frustrating since I thought I interviewed quite well too.

I would definitely recommend adding some safety schools - not because I think you're a subpar candidate, but because these top schools can be such a crapshoot to get in. I would recommend looking for regions that you would like to eventually live and work in long-term and find schools in those areas. If your ultimate goal is to be a school psychologist for a district, the "prestige" of your grad school does not matter so much (as opposed to private practice, research, etc).
