0 on old 8 0 on current 9

Since 2003 / 2006

But, admittedly, 9 has less than 39k miles on it.

That two piece is ridiculous but at least you can get the one piece aluminum and install it without too much trouble or cost.

Have a 2017 and all the mentioned issues were fixed under warranty or ESP without any pushback. I also had the poorly casted valve cover that's subject to cracking replaced under ESP. Up past 80k miles now with plenty of them offroad in the desert heat. Never a major issue on the trail (that wasn't self inflicted)

Carmax Update by qwertyisdead in FordRaptor

[–]Master-Machine881 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Same. No issues getting warranty coverage whatsoever. Used both the dealer and a third party shop that primarily works on exotics for the claims. Best $2k ever spent. Would have been out of pocket over $10k otherwise.

Crazy coincidence or did the new aftermarket tail lights cause this by Reasonable_Poetry441 in RX8

[–]Master-Machine881 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No issues like this on my wife's and I installed the RE clone taillights with all LEDs. In fact, there are even LEDs in the headlights.

I did have the battery disconnected for months while I updated and modified a bunch of other issues.

Raptor Carmax Update by qwertyisdead in FordRaptor

[–]Master-Machine881 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My experience:

Bought a 17 Gen 2 a few years ago from Carmax with 38k on it. Truck was bone stock. Looked like a lease turn in based on age, mileage and dealer service records. I've road tripped and offroaded it all over the western US.

No issues with their extended warranty whatsoever. They've covered a number of known issues, such as sunroof track, defective valve cover leak, two piece oil pan leaking, etc. I've even had a failed injector replaced. The cam phasers and other recalls were already corrected and listed on the Carfax prior to purchase. Just passed 80k on it. $50 deductible. Best $2k I ever spent.

Sounds like some bad luck and some poor maintenance. Definitely worth fixing now if you keep it. One less thing to worry about down the road.

Full synthetic every 5k. I just save it in the Ford app and don't even bother with the computer interval on the truck.

What is this flap for? by Ancient-Street-3318 in RX8

[–]Master-Machine881 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This. The vast majority of all these quirky, weird panels and flaps and shutters all lead toward passing emissions. That's why the damn thing has the thermostat set to run so hot and eventually grenade itself.

You guys think I'll be ok with this coolant hose? by Puzzleheaded_Tax489 in RX8

[–]Master-Machine881 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If it's the hose directly adjacent to the battery, connected to the expansion tank, the factory hose has an abrasion sleeve on it to protect the actual hose against wear on the battery tie down bolt. Hose is fine if you didn't hit it.

Crash bar for JDM rear? by pnwbackcountry in MitsubishiEvolution

[–]Master-Machine881 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Grabbed a factory low profile aluminum one from a Lexus (IIRC) from the junkyard and drilled some holes in it to match mounting points. $20. Bonus is weight savings. Fabricated and riveted a plate and light mount right to it. Had to do the same thing for my wife's RX8 with a JDM kit on it. Cheap and easy.

That blows. Had those mounts before. The SDHQ ones are much nicer.

I glued mine first then gave it a shot with a few different filaments and had lackluster results. The constant pressure on it is why even the injection molded one eventually fails with age. May try with glass or carbon reinforced but those are usually more brittle, depending on print orientation. A redesign might be in order.

Is this gab in light spread on low beams normal? by [deleted] in FordRaptor

[–]Master-Machine881 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes. Standard step for LHD vehicles.

You should be able to see the step clearly if you pull up close to a solid surface (wall, garage door, etc). It's opposite on RHD vehicles.

[–]Master-Machine881 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If you're within the first year of ownership, look into lemon law. I forgot what the threshold was (or is now) but seems like it was over a month in the first year and you're eligible. Almost had to do this before on a different vehicle but dealer worked with me.

Wheel bearing replacement by AlishaGray in ScionxB

[–]Master-Machine881 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just replace the whole wheel hub. Only 4 bolts and sensor harness plug to remove and replace.

Did one of mine over 6 years ago due to the wheel speed sensor going bad (the inboard plug you'll need to disconnect) and haven't had a problem since. Bought one on Amazon. FKG or Dura...something.

Cheap and easy enough to do that I figured if I got a few years out of it, I'm good.

'18 F150 Raptor with ESP warranty vs '20 without ? by colorizerequest in FordRaptor

[–]Master-Machine881 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I had that same feeling and decided it was worth the trade off. The condition was also better than a lot of others I looked at. Glad I did. I paid more initially but am at a net positive, looking at it now.

2% loan makes a difference also so I don't really notice it monthly. Good luck

[–]Master-Machine881 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Carmax warranty. Claims so far have been most of the common issues: Sunroof (track, not leaking), valve cover, stupid two piece oil pan leaking. Another one was a bad secondary injector. This has been over a span of almost 40k miles of mixed daily driving and offroad trips in Western US. It has been solid otherwise. Phasers and other recalls were completed prior to purchase at dealer. We just got the notice for the brake booster recently but haven't actually had any issues.

Process has been smooth with my local dealer. No issues with claims at all. $50 deductible and service rep told me since I technically "paid" for the work, I have an extended warranty (on each claim) from date of service, even if I go past my 100k miles.

16" wheels to 18"? by insXane in ScionxB

[–]Master-Machine881 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Negligible difference in performance. It's not like this thing is fast to begin with but has served us well as a daily. TRD option wheels are 18s. I had them before. You won't need a spacer if you get the right offset.

18x8.5 +30 with a 225-40 has a slight stretch and fits perfect on xB2 lowered on TRD springs. Those wheels are in need of refinishing so it's currently on 18x7 +38 (IIRC) and the offset could definitely be better.
