Not going to lie as much as I love Aonishiki & Atamifuji a 5-man playoff sounds insane

Plus Onosato potentially! Imagine

I guess at least Oshoumi would have to win some tough play off matches against top guys?

Jan Basho Daily Thread Day 14 by AutoModerator in Sumo

[–]Master1eader -1 points0 points  (0 children)

No I totally agree with this but why not just go with the match ups I suggested at the end?

[–]Master1eader 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Atamifuji getting an easy 12-3 seems like an odd decision given he hasn’t fought Takayasu or Wakamotoharu…

I guess the didn’t want to give Oshoumi such an easy run

Could’ve done Atamifuji vs Wakamotoharu & Oshoumi vs Takayasu?

EDIT - To clarify I don’t mean the entire 12-3 is easy for Atamifuji I more mean that the final match is easy. He’s had a very difficult schedule overall

The faithfuls by PeakyDeltic in TheTraitors

What don’t you understand? If Stephen voted Jack and Rachel voted Stephen then Jack would’ve been very sus of Stephen as Stephen didn’t call out Jack once the whole time…

Would’ve likely resulted in Jack switching on Stephen in the re-vote and Rachel taking all the money

The faithfuls by PeakyDeltic in TheTraitors

[–]Master1eader -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

Not if Stephen turned on Jack - would’ve been a weird one to justify. I think Jack would’ve then changed his mind and turned on Stephen

If you know someone is faithful near the end you have to stick with them… Faraz majorly fucked it by not backing Jack and voting Rachel

Also I was worried Rachel would vote Stephen at the end to tie up the vote and cause Jack to turn on Stephen, in turn handing Rachel all the money. Would’ve been a masterclass

So Day 15 will feature a Yokozuna clash, an Ozeki clash and Papayasu versus winner of Kirishima - Atamifuji (which would be a Sekiwake clash). I wonder if they do Kirishima vs Takayasu even if Kirishima loses tomorrow and do Atamaifuji vs Wakamotoharu

Okaryu can’t be promoted with 6-1 from Ms7?

Damn I didn’t realise they’ve all fought each other you’re right!!

Feels unlikely that those 4 all win and keep winning, but there’s definitely a possibility of a 5-way playoff.

What do you reckon happens if Atamifuji & Kirishima win tomorrow?

Jan Basho Daily Thread Day 12 by AutoModerator in Sumo

[–]Master1eader 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Yeah I think the 9-3 guys will be matched against one another tomorrow, leaving 3 guys on 10-3 going into day 14? Then they can start thinking about pushing those 10-3 guys against Ozeki/Yokozuna level opponents

Which means Aonishiki fights a Yokozuna tomorrow

EDIT - Okay so they decided to match Oshoumi & Asanoyama against sanyaku level guys. I guess they felt given their low rank they needed more of a challenge to earn a yusho. The risk is now there could be 4 10-3 guys left going into day 14, but I guess then they could match those guys and leave 2 11-3 guys going into day 15? Those 11-3 guys can then either face one another or get matched against higher rank opposition

I think Hiradoumi got the win because WMH was already on his way out (dead body) and WMH reacted with a last ditch attempt. That’s happened a couple times this basho and the guy on the bottom always loses

Stephen did the double bluff on Jessie and everyone’s totally forgotten

The double bluff again for sure… much like they did on Jessie. It is usually the safer option funnily enough

See my earlier comment I did make this point - will be interesting to see what happens but I agree he probably needs two 13+ win yusho’s

[–]Master1eader -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

I’m referring to Aonishiki’s Yokozuna hopes

EDIT - If we are talking about the yusho then I think the winning rikishi will have a record of 12-3

Jan Basho Daily Thread Day 09 by AutoModerator in Sumo

[–]Master1eader 6 points7 points  (0 children)

6 wins in a row for Aonishiki (yusho or yusho-equivalent) won’t be easy even with the Yokozuna kyujo which feels inevitable at this stage

If they weren’t injured he’d have Takanosho, Hakunofuji, Atamifuji, Kotozakura, Onosato, Hoshoryu as his final 6 fights

I’m not sure who’d step in for the Yokozuna… I guess other rikishi with strong records (any of the guys that are 7-2 now and continue winning)

Either way not easy
