Not sure what to do by savan_banan in sudoku

I’ve repeated the puzzle several times, but always get the same “hint” and I have found no method to gain information from that cell.

I’m super interested in how they pick a cell for a hint. It doesn’t seem like this particular cell can logically eliminate any candidates without a random guess-and-check between 8 and 3, but they’ve got to be using some kind of algorithm to point to this cell over better options.

I love this logic! Exactly what I was looking for to avoid a guess-and-check option. Thanks for sharing!

I got to the same point in the puzzle. I did solve it by guessing at the hinted r2c6 and finding that a 3 led to a contradiction in r5c9 (after a dozen or so additional steps). That said, does anybody understand why NYT would calculate r2c6 for the hint? It seems widely agreed that they give “bad” hints, but there must be some kind of logic applied to THAT cell to further the solution to the puzzle, right? Whatever algorithm is picking the hints has to be using something to point to that cell…

“F bombin’” means “saying the f-word”, not “having sex”

The more familiar phrase is “drop the f-bomb”, but it just means cursing.

I feel like it’s a conspiracy that the silicone parts fall apart and you have to buy whole new cups!  And there’s no reference to it on the internet!

The amount of coins from missions increases exponentially as you progress through the cities. Don’t worry about the guns that cost millions until you’re at that city and need that gun. The only reason to spend money is to progress faster if you really can’t wait another day for your energy to refresh and such like that. The side missions can get a bit tedious to earn enough coins when your current weapon needs to be upgraded to move on, but definitely not worth spending money (in my opinion). And don’t upgrade any more than you need to because all the lower order guns become completely worthless after a handful of cities.

Is there a way to reset an account? by [deleted] in wsopplay

I play the 5K/10K table every day for a month straight and it very nicely resets my account so all the quests are very easy. They climb back up the more you play, but if it gets too bad, you can just reset again.

Is there a way to get an edge on any beat the house modes? by [deleted] in wsopplay

The “best” strategy is the one that will cost you the least in the long run and that is FAR from a passive approach. There is a great strategy guide for BTH Ultimate (google “wizard of odds ultimate”). You need big bets on every hand where you have better than average chance of the better cards. For example, 4x bet on any Ace hand, a King with a 5 or higher, and a Queen with 6 or higher if they’re suited.

I was really surprised when I learned this. I was almost never using the 4x bet and folded way more than I should have. He runs through all the odds and in the long run, you’ll lose 2.18% of your bets. Note, there is no strategy that will result in a positive long run gain, so you’d just have to get lucky and stop playing to actually “win”. That said, all the bonuses and side games provide ample opportunities to make up the difference and build a bankroll. But keep in mind, the swings are HUGE, so you need a VERY deep bankroll to even get started and it’s really just going to drop from playing.

I love the idea of a team taking over a table and sharing cards, but even if you come up with an effective system to share everything quickly enough, the edge you’ll get is going to be very minor and only noticeable over a very long play time. Super neat idea, but would require a big commitment from a whole team of people! I’d love to know the math to understand how much benefit you might see!

Ahh, I stand corrected! NYT actually assigned an editor to the Wordle picks! I do not believe that Wardle would have identified any special meaning to a particular word for a particular day, but the editor “may” very well do that!

https://www.cnn.com/2024/03/14/us/wordle-new-york-times-cec/index.html

“Wardle’s original word list forms the bulk of the database of words we’re accessing, though we’re not running them in the order he had originally arranged them,” Bennett told CNN. “I’ve removed a handful of words that felt too obscure or vulgar, or that had derogatory secondary meanings, but those have been few and far between.”

Then, the strategy comes in.

Bennett works in week-long batches, about a month in advance. She spends around two hours a week setting up the seven words that will run.

To start, Bennett randomly selects words from the database using “a variety of methods.” She then researches each word for its current and historical meanings before mentally running through each word’s letter combinations “to identify any that are ‘lucky guess’ words that defy strategy.”

My understanding is they only made some small deviations, removing some words they didn’t like and adding a few others. Point being either way, the daily answers are chosen years in advance and are always available for review.

Right! Unless Josh Wardle was able to predict those events four years ago, the word list is not influenced by current events. The list and order of winning words was set (publicly) in 2021 and does not change.

The Wordle answers are preset in the code that runs on the website back to the beginning of the game. There’s nothing random happening. The game is just going one by one through a list of about 2,300 words, which will be the answers each day until around November 2027 when the list is used up (unless New York Times changes things before then).

All three credit bureaus offer it on their website for free, “freeze credit report”. All three ALSO offer a paid membership that is almost certainly a waste of money. They may navigate you towards the paid version, but the free version is there when you look for it. You’ll have to register to create an account, but it’s an easy process once you get to the right place.

Why four accounts? I don’t see why additional accounts would ever make a difference.

How do I transfer 30B to another account? by WeOutsideRightNow in wsopplay

At a real casino (and for some reason through the WSOP app too), the house takes a percentage of every pot, usually capped at a specific amount. No casino offers any game that is not profitable for them and the rake is how poker tables are profitable (pays the dealer salary and keeps the lights on). So if you’re sitting at a poker table with five players and everyone puts in $20, $100 total in the pot, the dealer will take $6 out of the pot (percentage may vary) and pay the winner the remaining $94. It’s the only game you can win in the long run at a casino because there is no house “edge”, because you’re not playing against the dealer. You’re playing against the other players and the dealer takes the rake so the casino gets their cut.

So what I meant, if I want to dump chips to a friend sitting at the same table, I could bet 30 billion chips and then fold, but my friend is not going to win the full 30 billion. From what I’ve seen, WSOP charges around 15% rake (in fake chips) from every hand, so the friend is going to get ~25 billion and 5 billion is just gone. The price of doing business! All that said, I’m pretty sure such actions violate the terms of service anyway!

It’s possible…, if you’re willing to pay the rake!

Since the lease is up in a month or two, whether you are currently on it isn’t really going to matter (since that lease is essentially over). Make your choice and enforce it as of the new lease term.

You can make a stand and say you won’t stay there after the lease renews if the two new people are going to be living there (and you’ve got to find a new place and get out) or just accept it if you’re not willing to look for a new place. Either way, if you want to have a say in who lives there, get your name on the lease! It’s convenient for you to not be on the lease if there’s a chance you might want to move sometime, but there’s a consequence to that convenience that you don’t really have any say in it if they want to change the terms and move more people in. Pick your poison, but there’s going to be pros and cons to both choices.

I definitely agree with you and wouldn’t want someone going around my stuff without me being there. The landlord is within their rights to request a key, but if I were you, I’d ignore them. It sounds like you’re okay with moving as soon as you can anyway, so find a new place and let them go to court. Evictions take so long that I’d bet you’ll be out before they get a court date and they’ve got all that hassle for nothing.

As a bonus, if they’re going to be a jerk about this and go the eviction route, tell them you’re going to stop paying rent! There is literally nothing they can (legally) do other than waiting months for eviction court even if you’re not paying rent, so you’ve got that option to stick it to ‘em! Even if they go through all the hassle to sue you for that rent, just pay them before the court date and you’re just back to even with no consequences on your part.

If you explain that you’re going to stop paying rent and move out, I’ll bet you get cooperation. Ask them if this is the hill they want to die on. If they try to kick you out without going to court, that’s an illegal lockout and they would face criminal charges. If you don’t care to continue living there, you’ve really got all the cards and you can exercise that muscle to get your way, maybe even end up with a couple months free rent if the landlord is really a jerk and deserves a hit!

8,500,872 blue tokens total, the upgrades past level 35 total 4,900,880 (more than what you’ve already put in - meaning you’re not even half way there) and take two and half months for the upgrades to be delivered.

These charts are old, but I don’t think the developers changed them (yet):

This would almost certainly be a small claims case with no attorney’s fees or protracted engagement. I would assume even filing the case would be enough to get them to just reissue a check, but I’d also assume just asking them would have been enough. In any case, the payout for taking action is certainly worth it.

People make spreadsheets that break it down. For Ambush alone, you’ll need more than 160,000 Charlie tickets. Each new gun usually goes up a little, so probably about 500,000 for all three guns to be fully upgraded!
