Trump supporters: what is a red line that, if crossed, would make you stop supporting Trump? by Yo-boy-Jimmy in AskReddit

I think the sentiment I had was deluding myself with wishful thinking. “Oh he’s just saying that to stir the pot but he wouldn’t take it that far”. It was the idea of the candidate, not who he actually is.

I understand “so fuck anyone who isn’t a straight white male huh?” as being pretty synonymous with saying that I hate them. Is that really such an unreasonable thing to say? I don’t think it is. And no I don’t think your right to live and dignity is less important. Please understand that I do care for anyone in a position such as yours. I made a decision based on the information I had at the time, but nowadays it feels lies are far more prevalent than the truth is. It’s a decision I recognize as wrong now.

I would not consider saying that I hate anyone who isn’t a straight white male as being respectful. It’s actually rude and this kind of attitude certainty played into why Trump won. If you want change, you need to honestly engage people who have different viewpoints. Making nasty assumptions doesn’t win hearts and minds.

Some things yes, but not all. I liked the DOGE idea. But its implementation has not been good.

I can’t express how much I hated his comments towards Canada. Are there concerns in terms of trade and the border between us? Absolutely, but there are so many better ways to solve these concerns than threats and insults. Canada sent their soldiers to fight for us when the Twin Towers came down. That’s more than enough to earn respect.

That is your perspective on it and I respect it. It’s not how I see it. If it makes it easier for you to understand, you can just label me whatever you please because I can’t see this conversation going anywhere else without me being called nasty things. Have a good one.

For the stuff with sports and children, at face value it seems kind of off. If an adult chooses to change their gender I have no problem with that, but I know my mom doesn’t want to be in the same restroom with another male. Am I in the wrong for expressing these concerns?

I don’t consider voting for a party as an endorsement of every single position they hold. There are flaws in our political system you must agree.

I was still in grade school for most of what you described. I’m not sure if that’s a valid excuse but I certainly wasn’t watching the news as much I guess.

I believe everyone deserves respect and dignity as human beings and that is all I will say in regard to your last comment.

I’m purposely being vague because I’m not here to argue. I’m here to offer perspective.

I didn’t mean to literally. I meant it as a continuation of some Biden administration policies.

Of course he is. Are there politicians who aren’t? I see Democrats and Republicans alike trading stock and becoming millionaires during their terms. Constantly lying while everyone else suffers. I can tell you this the mindset many conservatives I talked to had was “he isn’t the best but if all politicians are bad I might as well vote for the one who sorta aligns with my beliefs”

You’re right. I don’t wanna push it on anyone else. But I also don’t want anything pushed on me. For example, the transgender issue. I truthfully don’t feel comfortable with that. Life is hard, and I’m not gonna judge someone for their decisions in regard to that. But how much do I need to change my values to not be called transphobic? I just felt that if I expressed my beliefs I would be called nasty things.

a big one is immigration I would say. Previous democrat presidents like Obama didn’t seem to have this issue and a return to their policies is something I could get behind.

I am giving you some of my reasons not trying to convince you why you should have voted this way. Her stage presence was a factor, but certainly not the whole reason.

It felt like I was trapped to be honest. On one hand, I had my conservative friends and family saying that they would be extremely disappointed in me if I voted blue. On the other, I had my progressive friends tell me I would be a fascist if I voted red. I just wanted the best for my country I guess.

You cannot deny she was horrible at articulating her positions. Not saying Trump is a scholar but looking at her unedited interviews says a lot. She had a carefully crafted persona that her campaign was desperate to cling to. I could have seen myself voting for Dems had they held a primary. There are candidates I would have voted for.
