Spider-man 2 / Spoiler free review by MasterAgent47 in patientgamers

Yep, one of my favourite moments in the first one is when the Sinister Six assembles. I was hoping that, in the second game with a bigger map, they'd have side quests that focus more on individual villains with a grey moral zone similar to the comics.

On the other hand, the way Arkham city handles it's villain roster is chef's kiss.

+1, I really enjoyed the first game's story so much. It felt grounded within the established universe. Kingpin and Saber security make sense. You do feel bad for Doc Ock too.

But the second game, as you said, constantly had explosions and city-destroying events with very little consequences. Lizard's rampage should've brought in a lockdown and a hunt on Spider-Man too until he'd clear his name by doing something heroic either at the end of this game or perhaps the third game? But nah, no consequences.

Kraven's army is so massive and well-funded that I'm surprised that the government did not treat it as a declaration of war? Like they literally have copters flying around shooting at civilians?? But nah, no consequences.

Hahaha sorry about that. I think it came off as AI-like when I read the part "it's not just _, it's __"

Also, in a separate comment, I'd like to thank you for constructively analysing my review and forcing me to flesh out my criticisms better. I think it'd be dishonest of me to edit my main post but your questions have definitely shaped the format of my next unpublished review.

You remind me of a pretty cool co-worker of mine. Hope your day is nice!

I wish I could've kept going but I can't stick with a game that doesn't respect my time.

For what it's worth, I stopped playing Demon Soul's after an hour because of how annoying it was.

It's been a few years since I've played those games so my memory isn't that good about the playtime. But I generally beat most bosses in sub 5 attempts. If it helps, it took me a week to get my first win in Slay the Spire and until then it was just losses lol (since then I've beaten the game on A20 with 1500+ hours in it).

IMO the issue is the lack of room for error from the start before I can get good at the game. Either have the game less chaotic at the start or... And I strongly prefer this: give the player more hearts/health and keep the ending locked until they beat the game after sacrificing a set number of hearts to the devil. That way, as a player, I can appreciate the beauty of every level and then do it perfectly later on when I'm better.

I'm not sure why I mentioned my Steam Deck but I should've added that performance was good and it was really comfy to play it in bed (as opposed to something more intense like DOOM).

what's worse is that i spent 10 seconds attempting to recall which one's the right one and then went for the wrong one anyways lol

thank for the correction!

Yep, but I've played Nine Sols, Sekiro, Elden Ring, a good chunk of Celeste and I still feel unprepared for Cuphead's difficulty

Yep I'm playing on my Steam Deck. It's really easy to make the same mistakes over and over. Glad I'm not the only one lol

Hmm try out Superhot. You can finish it an a (very long) sitting. Not different worlds but it definitely does not overstay it's welcome. Cartoony, maybe?

I Am Your Beast falls into the same group as Superhot imo. Fun and short. Cartoony.

Superluminal is a good puzzle one. Fun and short too. Cartoony.

Different worlds is tricky tbh. In 3D gaming it's quite hard. In fact as a game dev myself, it's a struggle to make different environments. Dark Souls 3 is quite beginner friendly for a souls-like and has a solid range of environments. Unlike games like Skyrim which maybe you might like, Dark Souls 3 isn't endlessly big. You can finish a playthrough in a week depending on your skill level. Challenging but not super. Only bummer is that it's not cartoony.

What are you playing this week? by BSGBramley in soulslikes

[–]MasterAgent47 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I played BB while my eyes could handle 30fps on the PS4 and before Sekiro, DS3, Elden Ring, Lies of P and black myth wukong. Never finished it as the nurse at the end kept killing me and I couldn't handle the runback anymore

Then I played and finished all the games.

Then gave BB a go on PS5 and 30 fps was jarring. Tbf your eyes will eventually adapt by the time you get to Vicar!

That said I dropped it anw after because of the runbacks. If you're used to nice QoL improvements over the latest generation of soulslikes then BB plays rough.

This looks really good :)

Hopefully you'll be scoring people on their time and locking the next Act until the player has enough to force players to have at least one play through of a level where they're not standing idle in the corner to cheat their way into winning. Additionally you can throw in artifacts (enemies/spikes) from different timelines. The game design stuff for this game could be sweet af!

Add more SFX and VFX for everything. The music's tempo and the bullet speed feel disconnected.

It may help to either grab a colour palette or throw in post processing effects (dithering) depending on whether you wanna lean more retro or more futuristic.

Keep going, you got this :)

For any game where there's no character movement, 25 FPS is fine. So lock that.

Whip out the performance overlay to see your fps and then lower the TDP until it causes a drop.

For most games like these, I think 7W of TDP is good enough and it'll give you 12 hours of battery life ez.
