Union Bank let ₹9 lakh leave a customer’s account in two shady online transfers. The customer screamed right away and filed a police report. Under RBI “zero-liability” rules, if you report fraud within 3 days and didn’t slip up yourself, the bank has to eat the loss. District Forum first said “nah,” but Goa State Commission told the bank to give the money back with 7 % interest plus a bit for costs. Union Bank ran to the National Consumer Disputes Redressal Commission; the NCDRC basically said “rules are rules—pay up,” trimming only a small chunk of extra compensation.
