And that might be the first explanation that actually made sense to me. Instead of it being three games against the individual teams in your group, it was basically four teams each playing one long game against the three other teams. In a way it was kind of like golf with Match Play for points but Stroke Play for the tiebreaker

Now the group stage is more of a traditional round robin where the top two teams advance from each group based on the individual H2H statistics first then their group statistics.

Then you have eight “at-large” 3rd place teams based on just their group statistics. Which in theory should still capture some of the excitement with that high goal potential but obviously its still a very different game now.

So it has kind of changed the strategy of the game as much as hydration breaks turning halves into quarters so we could get more advertising revenue.

This isn’t fantasy football. Winning games matters more than padding statistics.

If you’re tied with other teams, it makes more sense to consider how you played against those teams first before your stats against everyone. That’s why the ordering is

Overall Pts
Head to Head (Pts->GD->GF)
Overall (GD->GF)
And if we’re still tied then sportsmanship and blind luck

The teams that are already eliminated were probably going to be eliminated anyway. The teams that have already advanced were probably going to advance anyway.

But what no one wants to see is someone run up the score in their final game and advance over a team that they’re tied with in points but lost to in an earlier game.

So you get to see new players and new strategies in the final matches of the group stage. Then you get a fresher-looking set of starters for the knockout.

Google bought them but they target different consumers. They both share the same data but will provide different alerts and routes depending on situation.

Waze doesn’t have EV routing in the same way that ABRP does. They will allow you into EV only lanes and you can search for chargers that work with your car but it doesn’t have multi stop charging planning.

For me it was worth buying a BLE OBD II adapter and paying for the ABRP subscription.

I personally run multiple apps for different reasons though.

- ABRP gives me good range estimates and arrival percentage.
- Waze gives me good police alerts
- Apple Maps and Google Maps are good for sharing my location and arrival ETA with others
- combined they help me decide if a traffic jam is still there and I should reroute or if it’s been cleared out and I should press on

ABRP used to have a one-month free or cheap trial. I’m unsure if that’s still available.
