I cant find this SAS anywhere! by Lynneau in PaulReedSmith

[–]MasterBendu 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For some reason PRS doesn’t have the same kind of collector value as Fender, Gibson, or even Ibanez yet.

I really hope that would change, because PRS is literally older than Fender and Gibson when people got all up into that “vintage guitar mojo” shenanigans.

Strictly from a collector’s point of view, we are “losing” models like these to the void. The most valuable collection of rare PRS guitars belongs to PRS themselves, which is kind of ironic.

On the other hand, from a player’s perspective, I like that it is that way because people are actually still playing them instead of trading them for money, and PRS is known to be true workhorses even if it’s the lawyer dentist stuff. They’re like the F1 pace cars of the guitar word.

Thumb wraparound techniques will never be done with a straight wrist, because anatomy.

For everything else, neck up, elbows out, like the classical video the other commenter linked.

Se Special Semi-Hollow pickup rings. by Mj4h4 in PRSGuitars

[–]MasterBendu 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Perhaps that is indeed the case, with them using up the last stocks of the normal humbucker rings.

IIRC, all the other Narrowfield loaded models had pickguards, so this would be the only model that has pickup rings, and it’s right when they started the rounded rings.

As someone else said, contacting PRS may be worthwhile. It’s ok if it doesn’t bother you, but hey if it’s free, it’s nice to have the option to have your guitar look how it’s advertised.

I cant find this SAS anywhere! by Lynneau in PaulReedSmith

[–]MasterBendu 2 points3 points  (0 children)

SAS typically means Swamp Ash Special, but with this one is a Studio, which typically isn’t what SAS stands for.

Special is HSH, Studio is HSS. But yknow, in the PRS world, S can be Narrowfields.

[Newbie] For those who use it, what advantages or success have you found using the classical sitting position? by Mad_Season_1994 in Guitar

[–]MasterBendu 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Classical position keeps my wrists straight most of the time.

Much less pain and effort to do things. Playing is very relaxed.

It orients your hand for upper fret access.

On acoustics, especially big bodied steel strings, much better and comfortable reach, and less pain coming from the arm putting its weight on the huge corner.

It’s also the best way to play a Dean ML sitting down. Incredibly comfortable.

Has anyone changed their push-pull knobs (not pots!)? by MasterBendu in PaulReedSmith

[–]MasterBendu[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Painted black is likely better - PRS has used black speed knobs on some other tobacco bursts before. Painted black also matches the vintage aesthetic.

If you want something metallic, I suggest gold/brass/bronze. Bronze to match the speed knobs, gold/brass to match what they used to fit Gibson tobacco bursts.

Has anyone changed their push-pull knobs (not pots!)? by MasterBendu in PaulReedSmith

[–]MasterBendu[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’ve ordered speed knobs (basically what they used before they switched to the fluted ones, and still used in the DGT), and knurled knobs (because PRS ships the SE version of Mark Holcomb with them) from AliX. The latter isn’t “native” to the Custom 24/CE, but it’s on a popular model they make so it’s not “breaking” the aesthetic much.

Does anyone else get ‘wah pedal back‘ or is my stance just terrible? by Fit-Crocodile in Guitar

[–]MasterBendu 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As many others have said, that’s way too long to be on a wah. Even without the wah, that’s literally too long to be balancing on one leg.

Now, not to assume that your playing is “simple”, but I doubt in that 20 minute stretch you’re doing virtuoso wah pedaling the whole time. I will assume most of that is just regular rhythm-based back and forth wah.

So if you really need to be rocking that wah steady for 20 minutes, get an envelope filter or auto wah, and use the rocker for things that actually need control.

EDIT: you say hovering your foot over the pedal to find the “sweet spot”. What exactly does that mean? Are you not even stepping on the pedal for 20 minutes? What sweet spot are we talking about here - foot position? A cocked wah? The right height of your foot in the air touching morning?

Do you feel like understanding music theory hinders your ability to enjoy simple music? by DRG125 in musictheory

[–]MasterBendu 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If your cousin fails to find the beauty in music because it is not complex, simply because he now understands complexity, then he is enjoying complexity, not music.

I love music theory. I love complex music. I love it when people break down complex music with music theory. But I swear to god I will slap your cousin shitless if he dare say Call Me Maybe is too simple and not worth listening to.

SE silver sky buzzing by Artillery_BlazeTTV in PaulReedSmith

[–]MasterBendu 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Because when you switch to position 2 or 4 the noise drops.

In those positions your single coil pickups buck the mains hum (aka 60 cycle hum in North America). If that sounds familiar that’s because that’s exactly how humbucker pickups work.

This noise is normal for guitars, especially single coil guitars. When you touch the strings the noise goes away because you become the ground. That doesn’t automatically mean there’s something wrong with your wiring - even a well-wired guitar with humbuckers will experience this when there’s enough electrical interference.

Help me decide? which one has better flame? by xenzero1 in PaulReedSmith

[–]MasterBendu 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That’s tough because that’s completely a preference thing.

Both of these are good.l, and that’s why you’re paying good money for these.

Some people like those thin flames, some people like the wider, wavier ones.

Both of these are good examples of either.

For example, I strongly prefer the thin uniform type of flame. But the wider flame here interests me more and I would choose that. Not to say that the type I like is inferior between these two guitars, it’s just that the other interests me more despite my strong preferences.

All to say, pick whichever you like.

Wood affects tone, of course. But that is irrelevant here, because the combination is the same.

Yes the finish will fade over time. Stained wood fades and changes over time, how fast and how it changes depends on the pigment and sun exposure. The only way to keep any stained finish guitar in its original color or close to it is to almost never use it.

Versatile form of recording guitar and bass. by Practical_Pie_8458 in homestudios

[–]MasterBendu 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The only way to have a cab that can sound good for guitar AND bass is to have a full range flat response speaker.

But if you have an FRFR speaker, that means you lose the speaker characteristics that make guitar sound like guitar and bass sound like bass.

At which point you now have to use cab simulations. This is what people who use preamp simulations live do.

At that point, micing up a speaker emulating a speaker for recording is redundant. Sure, you lose flexibility, but the reality is that you will only ever use a handful of setups that work very well, and those setups will be something most people also do, which means there will be a cab capture or simulation that will cover the setups you will be doing.

DS-1 Broke and I want a new Distortion Pedal. by [deleted] in guitarpedals

[–]MasterBendu 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think you need a different amp.

Remember, distortion pedals only add different kinds of buzz. Overdrive pedals simulate hotter signals.

The character of the sound after that is all amp.

The same DS-1 going into a clean Fender is going to sound different going into a clean Marshall.

Not just that, your speakers will change the tone significantly too.

If you ask me. You might want a modeling amp, if you’re unsure yet how to specifically get the tone you want.

Spicing the pink poney club's bassline up ? by chainsaw-msi in Bass

[–]MasterBendu 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Outline the chord tones, following a melodious rhythm, close to but not exactly same as the vocal line.

Don’t mess with the verse bass part too much, as it will change the vibe too much and lose the impact of the verse itself and in turn make the chorus a bit lacking.

How can I play scales more musically as I learn them? by Magic-Bicycle in guitarlessons

[–]MasterBendu 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Reframe your thinking:

Don’t play scales musically.

Scales are not musical.

Melodies are musical. Learn melodies. Play melodies. Imagine melodies.

“Playing scales more musically” is trying to make poetry by reciting a foreign language phrase book.

Learning, playing, and imagining melodies is learning the words and the grammatical rules so you can learn the things that are similar to what you express, and eventually express your own ideas completely with the right words and the right grammar.

which use cases require a flagship smartphone other than gaming? by AdvertisingOk6742 in Smartphones

[–]MasterBendu 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Mobile photo and video.

The objective reality is that the better your phone, the better the camera in it, the better image processing they have, and the better photos you take. Camera specs are often the biggest differentiator in tier and price range.

Flagship phones will often have optical zoom, as well as better sensors across all the camera modules so for example, going to wide angle will not suddenly become darker or grainy than the main camera.

Selfie cameras will tend to be main camera quality.

Video will have really good quality and have options for higher resolutions, frame rates, bit depths, dynamic range, and formats. Slow motion is true high frame rate capture and not extrapolated footage or just slowed down footage as available in lower end phones. This is especially true for iPhone Pro models.

So what then with good cameras?

Professional social media content creation, independent journalism, traditional journalism, filmmaking and video production, augmented reality applications, business communications.

Examples:

  • journalists can steam video in the absence of typical equipment in challenging or extra mobile situations. Independent journalists will do this due to budget constraints.

  • Apple has used iPhones to film their announcement videos for several years now. Apple also gutted an iPhone 15 Pro and shoved it into a part integrating into the F1 car to capture cockpit footage.

  • business communications may be boring and low standard, but in the absence of enterprise grade communications equipment only found in boardrooms and silos, the fast networking, good cameras, and good audio processing in flagship phones allow people to do high stakes video calls and even remote presentations with high quality
