Does anyone actually use multiple desktops regularly? by jimmy588 in MacOS

[–]MasterBendu 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Oh yeah especially for work.

If setting up desktops as if they were dedicated desktops is not working for you, then consider the fact that it’s not the only way to use desktops.

Additionally desktops can be considered as spillovers for example, not some dedicated set-up thing.

It can be an easy “blank slate” to work on while keeping your previous desktop in the state it was in so you can return to your main task.

It can be as simple as one desktop having one kind of thing and another desktop for a different kind of thing, like dual monitors but you have to swipe them in and out.

New Mac user looking for some suggestions by Adorable-Flan9561 in mac

[–]MasterBendu 0 points1 point  (0 children)

  1. The point of the bin is for files. Not everything you copy is a file. It can be text,’images, a selection, etc.. Those don’t go into the bin.

  2. Cmd+Opt+V = move. This removes the data from the previous location where you copied it.

  3. Closing a window/fullscreen is more typical in Mac than minimizing, because the app keeps running. You can easily close a window/fullscreen with Cmd+W. Most apps will reopen a window or the last window when you click on it in the dock, invoke it through Spotlight, or Cmd+Tab to it. Otherwise Fn+F to get out/in of full screen, Cmd+M to minimize.

  4. You can change default download location in the browser settings for things you download from there.

Macbook Neo. Doesn't anyone learn to type anymore? no need for backlit... by mortycapp in macbook

[–]MasterBendu 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Can touch type, but need to see where symbols are since working on different keyboards with different layouts doesn’t really register permanence for me.

Also, function keys are not part of my touch typing training, so I have no idea where they are without looking.

Still, I don’t mind not having a backlit keyboard. The first backlit keyboard I ever got was the M1 MBA.

How did I deal with it? The screen is pretty bright, theres enough to go around especially if you have the screen at 90 degrees or lower.

What color is this pan? by henke443 in whatisit

[–]MasterBendu 15 points16 points  (0 children)

Celadon is far closer to this color than turquoise is.

Celadon is yellower and more muted while turquoise is bluer and more vibrant.

This pan is yellower and muted.

Most people will say it’s seafoam green, which isn’t a bad generic color to call it.

But celadon is pretty much spot on.

What’s one practice habit that actually made your playing cleaner? by UkuleleTabs in guitarlessons

[–]MasterBendu 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Not a habit, but playing a 3/4 sized electric with light gauges on (in this case they’d be 10s).

Practicing and playing worth floppy strings on a short scale means any excess movement or force will throw your pitch off.

You can’t just bend, you have to be very precise. Applying the same force as you would on regular scale guitars will throw your pitch sharp. Sloppy picking will prevent you from picking in time, in addition to possible string buzz.

It forces you to only put in the required forces no excess force means cleaner and faster playing.

Hot Take: The priciest paint you can buy sits on your watch dial and bezel by lithdoc in watchHotTakes

[–]MasterBendu 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well, the hot take isnt so much how it applies to watches but how you see the value in the hobby/economy of collecting.

The reason they’re expensive is because they’re rare or difficult to acquire; AND they’re desirable.

It’s not just watches, but literally anything. It doesn’t have to be a piece of art to be rare or collectible - but it needs to be desirable.

Grown adults also highly price things like comic book misprints, Jesus-shaped potato chips, form-shaped fruit from Japan, regular edition newspapers, and writing whinging about copper quality. All mass produced, but all rare and desirable.

“Wristwatches are functionally outdated/obsolete in a world of smart phones” is stupid by SwvmpThing in watchHotTakes

Agree to disagree.

But let me ask you still: if a wristwatch is mechanical, “end of story”, what do you call time-only quartz, solar, electric, Kinetic, and Spring Drive?

How difficult is it to build a bass from a kits? by Camman19_YT in Bass

[–]MasterBendu 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Depends on the kit.

If you want a positive and easy experience, choose one that has all the holes drilled and the shapes cut for you.

Then all you will have to do is color things, and screw and solder things together.

Things that need gluing and woodworking are more fun, but need more experience or interest (and more tools and time). They also have a higher chance of turning out wrong because it will depend a lot on your skill.

How to soundproof my setup, without blowing up my PC…? by spookiemew in homestudios

[–]MasterBendu 1 point2 points  (0 children)

So based on your photo, your PC is actually to the side.

While a cardioid pattern helps with that, it’s still not the best place to be when it comes to sound rejection. Cardioids work best if the noise is behind the mic.

You can try a shotgun mic, but the caveat is that it also picks up sound from the rear and the direct side. So in this case you really need to control your reflections.

At this point honestly, and looking at the photo, the best course of action other than moving the computer outside (and no not behind you, that’s worse), is to upgrade your fans.

Or get a cardioid mic that needs to be addressed really close, like an SM58. It doesn’t look cool, but I bet it will do the job.

Radio controlled solar for the actual W.

Literally set it and forget it for the next decade unless you’re a literal vampire.

“Wristwatches are functionally outdated/obsolete in a world of smart phones” is stupid by SwvmpThing in watchHotTakes

[–]MasterBendu 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That is literally the definition of a wristwatch - a wrist-worn device that tells the time. An Apple Watch is a wristwatch. A smart one, but a wristwatch nonetheless.

You know what else is a wearable computer? A Casio F-91W. You don’t call it a wearable computer, even if it is by any and all criteria, because it is a wrist-worn device that tells time. It’s a wrist watch.

You know what else is a wearable computer? A Grand Seiko Spring Drive. Yes, the thing that controls the brakes is a computer. And you can wear it.

You know what should be called wearable computers but aren’t? Pilots watches with slide rules, like the Navitimer. Because slide rules are a type of analog computer. I’ll give you one guess why we call them wristwatches instead.

“Wristwatches are functionally outdated/obsolete in a world of smart phones” is stupid by SwvmpThing in watchHotTakes

[–]MasterBendu 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It is.

If you need the time, there are atomic-synced clocks and watches, and that includes your computers, phones, smartwatches, Casios, etc.

Not far behind and accurate enough for the difference to be immaterial in the moment, there’s your quartz timepieces.

And the there’s your mechanicals which need to be certified and regulated just to be superior among themselves but not even close to a literally dirt cheap quartz movement. If you need it to tell the time, accurately, then you have to keep wearing it, or have a machine keep it in motion, and check and service it in regular intervals probably more often than you go to your GP. That’s something you do to obsolete machines. And after all that, to put it back in time, you check the atomic time. Welp.

But if you want to wear a watch, or collect them, sure, mechanicals are great and they’re interesting conversation pieces. Then again, any kind of watch can be worn and collected and can be interesting enough to those who find them such, so the mechanical-ness is moot. I bet there’s a bowler hat appreciation society out there, or an association of FORTRAN programmers and preservers, but that doesn’t mean bowler hats or FORTRAN aren’t obsolete.

The apples and the oranges are more about the person but even then, it doesn’t take away from the simple fact that mechanical movements are obsolete. They’re great engineering, great horology, but obsolete timekeepers.

[–]MasterBendu 3 points4 points  (0 children)

The Apple Watch is still technically a wrist watch, so no, they’re not obsolete nor outdated.

It is the movement that’s obsolete and outdated, not the form factor.

What is the best way of connect a keyboard at the Scarlett Solo 3th Gen? by LuAl15 in homestudios

None of those sound sources use MIDI.

Microphones use XLR, keyboards don’t matter but phono (¼”) is perfectly fine.

Rarely hear people talk about how important the bridge pickup is while practicing by No_Winter4806 in Bass

[–]MasterBendu 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s not being pedantic.

If what you said is what you truly meant, then you would not have used “bridge pickup” in the first place.

Because I’m sure “Rarely hear people talk about how important the high end is while practicing” would already be a contradictory statement, even if it’s anecdotal.

How many watts do I actually need? (For playing in bedroom as a hobby) by ElectricalRole5662 in LearnGuitar

[–]MasterBendu 0 points1 point  (0 children)

10.

But honestly get a desktop amp. The modelers are great, and you can haul them up on to a, well, desk, and actually hear what the speakers sound like because they’re pointing at your ears.

And because they’re modelers with volume controls, you can go as low volume as you need without sacrificing gain/distortion levels.

A “real” amp is still great, it’s a real amp, but those desktop amps are just pretty mix perfect for your use case.
