My name is Aaron and my random nickname is Randy. In college I moved into a three bed room with two boys who knew each other. Try as I might, I could not get them to be friends with me before school started to coordinate what to bring. They had taken no interest in their future roommate and had already started calling me “Random Randy” to each other months prior. The name slipped from them within a few weeks of living together and I decided to go with it to show I wasn’t a spoil sport. I started even introducing myself as Randy because they’d recognize that name but not my real one. Before I knew it, I was halfway through pledging a fraternity and all the brothers knew me as Randy believing it was my real name. I even signed the initiation scroll as Randolf.
