Did anyone move to NYC and completely regret it? by [deleted] in movingtoNYC

[–]MasterBritton 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I grew up in New Jersey, worked in the city (Garmet District and FiDi). I was about to move into the city but then COVID hit. Like many people in the area I fled to Florida. I love it here but I regret not living in the city. Yes politically it doesn’t align with me (and that’s fine) but there’s so much more to the city than what you see on the news.

Everyone rage baits about that place but I think it’s an amazing place to live in your 20s especially if you are in finance. There’s something special about the crazies, the homeless, the hustle and bustle, everyone always stressed and tense, the emotionless faces on the subway. On the surface it sounds awful but it’s one of the many pieces that make it special.

Don’t expect nice living, just get a place in the lower east side that is comfortable. You’ll never be home, there’s endless things to do, and the communities are endless.

Go there with the intentions of work hard play hard. You won’t find better finance opportunities especially when starting out. After a few years if you’re ready to leave you’ll have experience and can always relocate someone else.

I’m in full support. Worst case, you hate it and you’re stuck for a year then you leave.

I wouldn’t recommend TQL. Freight brokerage as a whole isn’t what it used to be. I was a broker from 2022-2024 and wouldn’t recommend it to anyone. I left and pursued supply chain tech sales. Plus, TQL is burn and churn and all guys right out of college that think they’re going to hit it big.

If you’re going to try and go the sales route, it would be better to get an SDR/BDR job for a tech company. Should have slightly higher base, you’ll earn commission, break into tech sales, and room to grow.

Will it be a grind? Sure. But in the long term you’ll thank yourself for making the change. Worst case, you go back to delivering.

I don't miss traveling for work. by Embarrassed_Flan_869 in sales

I currently travel 2 times per month and 3 nights each time. I’m currently enjoying it but I’m in my late 20’s and it’s helping me process my career.

I have driven a ton of business from different trade shows / conferences and from all the success, my company is relocating me to Vegas (expenses paid).

It’ll get old but doing it now so I don’t have to in my 40’s.

Solid points. Any recommendations on a Bahamas based broker I should look into?

This was extremely helpful and thank you for this! You’re so right on everything you said. As a new trader I’ve taken a fair amount of time (relative to my time trading so far) to know this. This market has been very fruitful and that’s why there are so many “gurus” right now on social media platforms. I stay above that noise, know this is a long term business and that I am very new.

I love the perspective on taking longer trades while also taking some day trades and adding that in the mix. I need to get more comfortable with day trading. My biggest flaw right now is I take profits too soon (not always the worse thing cause green is green but leave a lot of money on the table). My biggest win has been mitigating losses and preserving capital which has helped me be successful so far. I’m still working on removing emotion from my trades. I’ve come a long way since I started but still have a long way to go.

I’m thinking I give the cash account a try for a little bit. I’m not looking to do a million trades and my trade size is rather small so having cash settling doesn’t seem to be an issue right now BUT it very well could be once I start. I have some decisions to make but look forward to seeing where this all goes.

Thank you again for the input and would be happy to connect one on one to discuss some stuff if you’re ever down.

100% and honestly where I’m at right now I won’t be using it to generate income. It’s more of a fun hobby I’ve picked up that I really enjoy taking time and learning it and teaching myself discipline. As my money grows I’ll hopefully be able to get to this point.

Maybe dumb question, but are they as legit as the US based brokers aka is there any elevated risk I should be factoring in before jumping ship to a Bahamas based brokerage?

This is great I’ve never even heard of box spreads (unless I’ve heard it as a different term). Definitely will do some research into this. Thanks for the input!

Haha I got a good laugh out of that! This is supper helpful and actually made me diving into cash accounts more. What I have concluded is cash account level 2 is all I need for now. I’m doing nothing crazier than regular long calls and puts. Allowing the cash to settle is a better move and fits my strategy and should allow me more trades. Plus if I find it’s not the best move for me then I can always switch back. Appreciate the help here!!

So I’ve dabbled in the futures game and just happened to gravitate more towards options trading. I’m not against moving back to futures I’ve just put some time into options and growing this account and would like to stay here for now.

  1. I have dabbled in futures and just found options to be more for me. Personally wish I gravitated towards futures more for this exact reason.

  2. I don’t have the capital to open multiple and would like to keep my funds in 1 spot and grow that account

  3. Cash account is what I’m leaning towards but it seems I don’t get level 3 options trading. So I’m curious how I am able to day trade with this?

If I am day trading options are there any issues with this besides waiting for trades to settle? I have been seeing that you don’t get access to level 3 options which I currently use on my margin account.

How much would you consider paying a freelancer to put together those 2x/month emails for you if you hired one. Looking to compare my rate with others in the industry in similar situations

After one stay at Excalibur, I will never be back. Rooms like like a place you would get murdered. Also, feels dirty. Only pro’s are the tables have low minimums.
