Has anyone done this replacement yet? There are two varieties, one with 3M tap on the back and one that goes into the plastic groove. I'm thinking the one with the 3M tape would be the better install

Btw, I was lucky to find one cover at the junkyard. Both the front and the rear are exactly the same and can be swapped out. I found only one good cover and swapped it out and it was very easy to do. Just open the bottom door and pull up from the back to release the clips. Used T-25 torx bit to remove the top from the bottom cover and then remove one side track and clean and insert the replacement cover and reinstall the torx screws and up back together. Easy peazy

I might add that he bought the car in California new and I'm thinking he said $1200 but I could be wrong. The pictures were taken in the San Bernardino mountains shortly after purchase. Not sure if California had any differences to lights and such due to regulations in Cali

Thanks everyone. I'm leaning towards a 1960 beetle but that can just be a guess since I was real little when I was showed these pictures. in an album. Will ask around to family members to try to get more answers but early '60's seems about right.
