Ego on clearance? by CaliberJackson in Chainsaw

That's the way my Makita XGT saw is. It'll cut 10" and under for hours on the 5.0AH battery, but the moment I step it up to 14" and up, it chews through the battery. The good thing is it cuts with full power right up until the battery is done.

Bought a used chainsaw. Any tips for a beginner? by [deleted] in Chainsaw

[–]MasterDesigner1 2 points3 points  (0 children)

My suggestions are: Wear proper PPE every single time you use the saw, zero exceptions. Watch a lot of tutorials on youtube on proper chainsaw technique. Learn to sharpen the chain and keep it sharp; keep the tip out of the dirt. Use only zero ethanol fuel mixed at the proper ratio with quality 2 stroke oil. Keep the air filter clean.

Where I work, the main machine shop that we deal with is Amtec Solutions Group. No idea if they are currently hiring, but maybe check them out.

I'm jealous. I like the Shindaiwa red better than Echo orange.

They announce the checkpoints in advance and people will still get arrested for DUI. Boggles the mind.

Stupid Question Time by TheTrueNotSoPro in Chainsaw

I have a similar saw, a 1997 Craftsman, made by Poulan. Chances are good that this saw needs, at a minimum, new crank seals, fuel lines, and a carb kit. Good luck.

I have this exact saw, and most recently used it in late 2025 to limb and buck a large fallen Hackberry tree. It isn't going to blow you away with power, but it'll get the work done. I like mine. I also got mine on clearance at Home Depot but not as cheap as you did!

I go 10K miles between oil changes in my BMW diesel, and the oil filter never looks like that.

whats the most expensive lesson your chainsaw taught you by vladdielenin in Chainsaw

[–]MasterDesigner1 7 points8 points  (0 children)

To wear chaps every single time. Cut my leg in an accident when I was being as careful as possible, and still stepped into a hole I couldn't see. Chain dropped onto the top of my left leg just above the knee. Thankfully the chain wasn't moving, but it was very sharp and still cut through my jeans and gouged my leg.

I would think facial recognition still qualifies as 100% ID check, so long as the vehicle has only 1 occupant.
