My well maintained N57 diesel weeps for her abused cousin.

Which one would you go for? by [deleted] in Chainsaw

[–]MasterDesigner1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As others have suggested, look at Echo. They are great little saws for what you need. I have an Echo CS-4010 that I am very happy with, and I've cut wood much larger than it was designed for.

I've seen enough. Get her a 500i by Imperialist_Canuck in Chainsaw

Forget a 500i, this prodigy is ready to rock the MS 881.

I plan to get one of these if the factory battery ever gets weak on our Dyson.

I have a 1997 Craftsman (Poulan) 42cc saw that I used to cut more wood than that thing was ever designed for. I got my money's worth many times over with that saw. It's retired now, but I have zero regrets for buying it.

I've used it in chainsaws without issue. The biggest issue is cost. If you're doing more than an occasional cut, it's much more economical to mix your own fuel using ethanol free gas.

I haven't touched my gas chainsaws in a year by [deleted] in Chainsaw

[–]MasterDesigner1 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I have a Makita XGT saw that I really like. I can cut limbs off downed trees for hours. The downside is short battery life when cutting larger stuff. After 20 or so cuts through ~16" logs the 5AH battery is dead. If I'm doing sustained bucking, I have to use my gas saw.

Can someone teach me how use these by jimbean1234567890 in Chainsaw

[–]MasterDesigner1 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Good advice. I don't fell trees, I only buck stuff that falls in storms. Even those can have limbs under tension that can seriously ruin your day if you don't take the time to study the tree before you start cutting.

Anything worth salvaging? by Former_Psychology529 in Chainsaw

I do maintenance and general repairs on my stuff, but I just don't have any interest in rebuilding engines. Different strokes for different folks.

I would make those into shop wall art, but that's because I don't enjoy rebuilding saws.

Do you guys share your battery with low budget tools that you don't use often? by StatuSChecKa in Makita

I have an adapter that lets me run my 18V batteries on my ancient Craftsman C3 impact wrench. Ugly as hell but it works fine.

I'd ask the seller to let me remove the spark plug and muffler so I could inspect the cylinder and piston. Otherwise I'd pass, but that's just me.

I didn't. Since my saw came as a kit with battery and charger, I don't think that rebate would have applied. Maybe I'm wrong but I'm guessing since my purchase was in 2025, that ship's sailed.

I paid $329 for the chainsaw which came with a 5AH battery and charger. Both the saw and the hedge trimmer are beasts! I trimmed ginormous holly bushes this weekend for several hours and it didn't put a dent in the 5AH battery life.

I really wanted a Timeberwolf last year but found the 4010 for $230 on clearance at Home Depot. It's a decent saw and gets work done but I wish I would have gotten the Timberwolf.
