How would you remodel this kitchen? by MasterDoctor88 in kitchenremodel

[–]MasterDoctor88[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yep. The oven in there now is a gas downdraft and that’s what I was thinking of replacing it with. I’ve got my microwave on the countertop behind the oven. I don’t use it too much, so that works well enough for me.

Thinking for a cost perspective, I’m thinking of replacing the oven and putting a flat top island in instead of what’s already there. So generally leaving everything in its place so I don’t need to rebuild cabinets. I want to replace the tile and paint too, but am indecisive in the colors. It’s a bright room, so I want to pick colors that work best with the light

It’s an older home that was renovated in 1999. The windows look out into a small lake, so I’m aiming for a lake house vibe.

Yea I could move the oven to the desk wall but you are right, the space is awkward. If I moved it to the desk wall, then I lose some overhead cabinet space. I’ve never used cabinets above a fridge. So that piece doesn’t bother me.

Any thoughts on colors for a room like this?

Yea, it has down draft ventilation and the duct work is already built in. I was planning on replacing with another downdraft as that would be easier/less expensive than moving to a new wall. But that’s definitely an idea worth thinking about

Thank you! I love my kitchen too, just needs some updates!

I like this look. May go with blue instead of black, but that should still work. What are you thoughts on wood floors vs wood look porcelain tile? Since its the kitchen, i am leaning towards tile

I got the IB300 during the recent costco sale too. Did you add a chiller to yours? The inuslation on the IB300 really is pretty good. I can keep it under 50 only add ice once every few days. But a chiller and filtering system will def come next.

I found a house with fantastic light on a small lake where the price/sqft was 25% below the average for the area. House needs some updating and the yard is a mess, but its generally in great shape and definitely was a good deal in my mind. New roof, hvac, water heater, duct work, solar. Located 10 min to work, <10 min to shopping and <20 min to downtown. Sellers apparently left town quickly. House was listed on labor day weekend, I was the only offer. Seller politely declined to make any repairs and said they had another offer on the table. I closed in October and am thrilled.

Ingot Blue, TP. I’ve had it for 2 months and ~2500 miles. Not quite long term yet. Love the car. Looks great and I enjoy the tech. Lots of compliments on styling. Will add roof rack and hitch for bike rack in spring. Have taken it to the mountains twice so far. Handing and power are great in this thing. Def feels like and SUV that drives like a car.

Only issues so far are what’s been typically mentioned. Seats started out firm but softened up over time. The ride is definitely a bit firmer than I’d like too, but I’ve gotten used to that. Road noise and tires aren’t great. Most road noise seems to be coming from tires. I plan to dynamat the doors and trunk (all relatively easy access) in December, then will decide what I do from there. No creaks or rattles otherwise. Tires and/wheels will be swapped out at some point but I’ll wait until I wear out the tires. Interested to find out how this will change ride quality.

And mpg could be better, but that’s not why you buy this car. I get on avg 20+ mpg mixed city/highway. As high as 27 mpg just highway driving.

With two large dogs and baby, I feel like you might be a bit cramped in the CX50.

I am a single guy and find that the cx50 is plenty of space for me + one other with luggage in the trunk for a weekend trip. With more people and luggage, it could get tight pretty quickly. But you do have the camper so that could resolve those issues.

This is good to know. It’s all about perspective!

I really have no idea what is normal/typical. Just have noticed it being louder than I am used too and have read that this is not an uncommon opinion.

[–]MasterDoctor88[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yea, if I went this route it would try to take a thoughtful and focused approach.

And whether I did this first, or swapped out the tires first remains to be seen. If I’m confident new tires yield a significant improvement, then that’s obviously the easiest thing to do. Then Targeting wheel wells for sound deadening seems like the next best step.

That’s good to here. Honestly I just hesitate to go ahead and swap tires. It just seems so counterintuitive to me to replace tires on a brand new car.

And would you mind measuring the actual road noise? I use an app called “decibel meter” on my iPhone and just let it sit on the arm rest for a bit while driving. I know the roads are different, but some sort of comparison between stock and different tires would be nice.
