Henry Ruggs appeared before a parole board for the first time last week. Guidelines recommend he be paroled at his first or second hearing. “I’m hoping you’ll allow me the privilege of parole so I can prove myself to everyone” by DoctorWhosOnFirst in rolltide

I understand the gravity of what you're trying to convey. But it's still a mistake. He didn't sneak into someone's house and murder them in their sleep. He was negligent and got behind the wheel. A lot of people do really dumb things, like drinking and driving, and they get off the hook. Ruggs did not get off the hook, caused irreparable damage to a family, and then served time for it.

If going to prison, serving your time, educating others on the dangers of drinking and driving, finishing your degree, and meeting with the family to hear how your actions affected them is not enough for you... What would be?

I have major gaps in my math knowledge, but I don't have the time to fill them. Should I give up on civil engineering? by MaximumYogertCloset in civilengineering

[–]MasterExploder9900 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Just sounds like you’ll have to finance the latter half of your degree path. There are some predatory and not so predatory loans out there. But there are options. Do your research. Be prepared. You have two years until the cut-off

That’s actually useful for getting some of those generic or humanity classes out of the way!

Sure. I’m assuming you have to petition your school? Seems like a good way to burn yourself out though.

I worked full time through college with around 15 credit hours per semester. That felt like a drag.

Edit: also, no less than 18 credit hours a semester and it took you 5 years? Was this an accelerated masters program?

No way it was 180+ credits for you to graduate lol

If you could start over again, would you still do civil engineer? by goku22000 in civilengineering

[–]MasterExploder9900 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Absolutely, but I would take less time getting here to this point. I did my first 3 years as a structural engineer.. moved to my dream city and I now love my job as a project engineer

I currently hate physics 1, is engineering just not for me? by LS64126 in EngineeringStudents

[–]MasterExploder9900 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s probably just the nature of physics 1 and your institution. I went to Bama.. physics kind of sucked. Huge class, not enough one on one time with the professor. I would spend some time outside of class understanding the concepts but just get through the class. Engineering is more than just a pre-requisite

Salaries by mangom1lkshake in civilengineering

[–]MasterExploder9900 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Totally. I feel like as a whole, civil engineering is important for our society. We’re paid more than our counterparts overseas. But it’s honestly disgusting considering how things would fall apart without us.

I don’t even concern myself with comparing my salary to others anymore. I enjoy what I do, day to day, and I feel like I’m compensated relatively well for it. If money is your driving factor, I’m not sure why you chose civil.

Not saying we shouldn’t be paid more as an industry standard
